Wish I could have gotten the chance to see mikey. But ill say on the 20th anniversary of his death at the fox in atlanta 22. It was something special to see Jb and the boys play so sentimentally, they poured their heart out that weekend for mikey.
College football is back on the TV, the mornings and the evenings are getting cooler, and I'm on my front porch at 7am listening to this version of Driving Song for the 8,642nd time. Yep, fall in Athens, Ga is quickly approaching. Love that shit.
Mike Russell it is, for a real fan of WP when they were actually widespread panic. Not the same without Mikey. Love the guys and wish them the best but it ain’t the same
Now you boys got it down right! Bout time somebody did! Pure music, pure lyrics, pure guitar playing! I am sold! Sign them up boys! They got it! Don’t miss out!
My dad grew up with dave schools and played in the first band that Dave was apart of, years later my dad would open for widespread when they were still coming up, then a few years later after that they would always meet up backstage or show up to parties. Mikey studied chemistry and so did my mother, when my dad and his buddies would catch up backstage with dave my mom and Mikey would nerd out on chemistry stuff. Wish I could have met him but he passed before I would have even remembered seeing him
I could watch and listen to Mikey run pentatonic scales all day...it was his signature...he utilized many of my faves...a little delay...alittle reverb...and some crunchiness...feel blessed to have seen them in the late 90s early 2000s
And the master of the volume pedal. But those pentatonics were jus so smoothe no matter how fast or slow nance would take em. Don't think anyone will ever replicate it. I saw em 50 plus w mikey and enjoyed every minute but not until listening to herring was I able to look back and truly appreciate what I had been apart of.
The few times I saw them live I couldn't hardly hear a single note played by JB. I know he can play but I wonder if they just leave his volume all the way down.
This is so amazing . I feel old haha . First show I saw them at a gym in Wilmington NC . 95 . Was so low key and they were picking up . Man . That lingering lead ..
Brings back memories of less care free days. I needed to see this today. Thanks Geoff for all you and Chis and crew have done for our phamily, the home team and the world over the years in preserving and documenting things like this. Love and peace, Phred.
I feel bad for the Panic fans that never got to see Mikey. EDIT: I didn't mean for this to come off in a negative way. I just miss him a lot. It was a different beast back then. I just wish some of you guys had been there for it.
Thanks man. But don't. Cherish your moments with the Man himself!!! I cant change that I was too young and ignorant to see him, but I am here now. What I do cherish is videos and recordings of Mikey, and the people who share their experiences with me!
icecoldhubbas I wish like hell I would've seen them with mikey but I've enjoyed all of the shows I've witnessed with Herring. a Houser show would've been nice though
Such a well written song. Hands down one of Panic's best songs from a lyrics standpoint imo. Up there with Diner, Tickle The Truth, Let's Get This Show On The Road, and Jack. Beautiful song.
I have many favorite Panic songs, best Driving Song is at the top. My favorite by far. No road trip is complete without rolling this time a few times. Miss you Mikey! ❤️🎸🙏
Thanks for posting this. Brings me back to College. The conversation about where panic is today is irrelevant. Looking forward to seeing them up at Jay Peak in a few months. I think its great they kept going. People are still going to the shows, and Havin a Good Time! Miss you Mikey!
Very interesting things said by JB..One time they even reneged on the beer!! And he'll yes y'all paid your dues. Thank you WSP for continuing in your ever changing directions...Greatness witnessed
If I didn’t become a fan when Mikey was there it may have never happened.. Way back when they opened for the Connells @ Oak Mtn Ampitheatre I was still a headbanger against the stage. I wish I had a camera then ! The looks the guys gave each other was something I’ll never forget!!! I can imagine the band thinking “If this long haired freak like us , were going to be alright”!
I miss Mikey so much. I really loved how this guy made me learn to dance with souls...He exposed my gift to me...Thank you brother....I still cry when I hear him sing, play, and Lord when he does share wisdom it's fucking over...wow....
Originally, there were several instrumentals that they later lead lyrics over, such as action man which I was not a fan of with lyrics. But I supported in the less. Personally my favorite is takeout song and A of D and its rarest rawest late 90s form. Dammit I get chills still after almost 20 years of retirement from that scene. It just can’t be topped you had to be there. Sit and ski, nolaween at lakefront arena, mud island in Memphis. Red rocks. The fox theater. House of blues. Jb and friends I could go on and on almost 200 shows. Always a masterpiece.
@@Star_Dusting Jenny luv, NOLA 2000 Halloween shows, with a Galleon opener, our beloved Boys dressed in pirate costumes and the stage turned into a prow of a pirate ship! I never thought those days would end and those memories are still as powerful as they were 23 yrs ago. dulce Somnii to our Angel
Ahhh so good...wish we could get all the boys together. Somewhere on a farm around Athens...Monroe...Watkinsville. Danny, Samantha, Kevn, Keane, and everybody still here. Like the ole days
I met Mikey in the band at the ranch Bowl I got locked in the bowling alley and they asked me if I wanted to have beer and pizza he signed a picture for me very gracious very nice
I was fortunate to see them at a little club in Boston. The paradise I was hooked from that night on. Thanks to ed via Sonya for hooking me up w an amazing band. Also, I want to thank fred for hooking me up with live shows
The leaves seen through my window pane Remind me that it's time to move my life again November sun is felt by none A chilly breeze has blown my thoughts to what's to come A cup of warm coffee, some vitamin see A bowl for the cat, a bowl for the dog, a bowl for me Choose my bluest tape and unlock my car An honest tune with a lingering lead has taken me this far On the edge of the porch in the warm evening night Throwing the bone for the dog I see two passing lights Well, I wonder where that driver's bound Is there someone, somewhere, someway out there that I've not found A touch of smoke ain't what it seems Dust and sunshine can also make my eyes look mean But there's a brown cat sleeping through this day's show Toppin' off the woodpile, breathing slow
Sadly it wasn't until late 2002 that I got in to WP, and by that time Mikey had already checked out. Saw them for the first time in November of that year at the North Charleston Coliseum. Great show, but I wish I could've seen Mikey sitting on that chair with the Tele just once...
How sweet it was. This is panic. Mikey is Panic. RIP you beautiful soul. They broke the mold. So glad I toured 96-2002. Best years of my youth.
Me too! My first show 98, RR
Wish I could have gotten the chance to see mikey. But ill say on the 20th anniversary of his death at the fox in atlanta 22. It was something special to see Jb and the boys play so sentimentally, they poured their heart out that weekend for mikey.
To have been sitting on that deck that day, beer in hand.. things like this don't often get captured, glad this one did..
I SECOND THAT EMOTION💯😎🇺🇸🔮✨🧹🧘♀️🀄️⚔️☯️🥀💀🥀☯️⚔️🀄️🧘♀️🧹✨🔮🇺🇸😎💯
I show this to people who aren’t familiar with WP. If they aren’t interested after this....
I come here when life is good and when it’s not so good, because this is always good. Perfect, actually.
Keep on coming back to this. Unreal what these guys blessed us with.
UA-cam need to chill out with all these ads. Gave me three unskipable ads in the middle of this magic. That should be considered a felony.
Possibly the finest this song was ever played .
College football is back on the TV, the mornings and the evenings are getting cooler, and I'm on my front porch at 7am listening to this version of Driving Song for the 8,642nd time. Yep, fall in Athens, Ga is quickly approaching. Love that shit.
Hell ya Heather. Go DAWGS
Heather your Heaven isnt up above. Its right there.
Fellow Panichead from Knoxville.
what ever happened to the term “SpreadHead”?
Sounds like a good place to be. The smells, the sights, cracking a beer.
we still feel Mikey's spirit in Athens music...long live the lingering lead
The Mikey years were the best. Saw great shows since, but the great years for me were about 95 til 02....Mikey was the heart and soul.
Just two geniuses hammering out one of the greatest tunes ever written.
Impossible to watch without tearing up.
Mike Russell it is, for a real fan of WP when they were actually widespread panic. Not the same without Mikey. Love the guys and wish them the best but it ain’t the same
💯
I agree
I really love JB saying "one of the first songs that Mikey let me in on."
Now you boys got it down right! Bout time somebody did! Pure music, pure lyrics, pure guitar playing! I am sold! Sign them up boys! They got it! Don’t miss out!
I've watched this video maybe 100 times and it hasn't gotten old. RIP Mikey.

Glad he could accommodate you
I could just watch Mikey’s right hand. So relaxed.
Check out Lyle Brewer from neighbor in Boston. He slays pentatonic scales
Will never be played like this again. Miss you Mikey.
I remember that porch. This is what nostalgia and missing our buddies feels like to me. Long live life...presented live.
Severe Driving Problems
How could anyone NOT like this!?
Only explanation is they' hit the wrong button by accident or pressed it on their way to Beyoncés page
Because of the camera guy.
MG Spin hahahahaha
Working in Athens in the early 90s I can not tell you how many times I drove past Keane's porch and the Ga Theater and the Ga Bar.
We miss you Mikey. Panic isn’t Panic without you
Cr0sseyed&painless M first time I saw Panic I thought I wasn’t gonna like Mikey cause he sat down while he played; then I heard him play 😜
This video keeps my spirit fed :) always find myself coming back.
Me too!
Man.....the good ole days 😪
damn near made me cry. this is a keeper. -thanks!
This is awesome brings me back to my days in Athens. The late 80's early 90's were awesome times.
+Wayne Cash yes they were brother the Classic City was real cool...
We miss you Mikey....your uniqueness was our pleasure to have enjoyed you for 15 years
JB's playing is so underrated.
true!
MG Spin not necessarily, he’s a legend in the jam band circuit and that’s enough. No need for mainstream recognition
By whos authority ?
stop saying that
The few times I saw them live I couldn't hardly hear a single note played by JB. I know he can play but I wonder if they just leave his volume all the way down.
They both played humbuckers, kind of gets washed out by the lead guitar.
This is so amazing . I feel old haha . First show I saw them at a gym in Wilmington NC . 95 . Was so low key and they were picking up
. Man . That lingering lead ..
Having commercials and interrupting this masterpiece should be criminal
Best rhythm guitarist in a long lonnnnnggg while. Underrated talent.
Miss you Mikey. It's still your band bud, it always will be.
He is at every show. There will never be another Houser I’m glad I got the same 15 times so we’re going on 32

Love this version and that DVD.

RIP Mikey.... we miss you brother!
You will live forever through all the great music you gave to us.
Wow thank you for this ♡ Best video on UA-cam by far! An honest tune with a lingering lead has taken me this far.
Beautiful rendition of a great song off of a phenomenal record.

I miss Mikey. Great person. I cry every time i see this.
Just never gets Old...So damn Good ☠️🥃🤠
seeing mikey just made me start crying at work. i'm a spreadhead....before and after Jimmy. I love the family. A show makes it all ok.
Makes the hair on my arm stand up.
so classic, my 22 year old son has been to this house.
Where is it
Y'all did a GREAT film here. Still have my VHS copy of "the Earth Will Swallow You" from our local Hollywood Video! Thanks, Geoff!

Very iconic. Very underrated

Ikr? This just popped in my head after a decade without seeing it.
Very interesting things said by JB..One time they even reneged on the beer!! And he'll yes y'all paid your dues. Thank you WSP for continuing in your ever changing directions...Greatness witnessed
Mikey definitely had style and tone, something all guitar players yearn for!

Love these guys...i have a D-28 too...great guitar.
I miss Mikey so much. I really loved how this guy made me learn to dance with souls...He exposed my gift to me...Thank you brother....I still cry when I hear him sing, play, and Lord when he does share wisdom it's fucking over...wow....
My buddy turned me on to WSP while on a road trip. He said the guitar player sits while he's playing. His soloing was truly unique.
IV seen u guys 40 times in the 90's and early 2000's!! And this clip was wonderful!!! I needed that!! Thanks!!!!! It's been awhile!!!!
Great to see this in it's entirety!
Fight for creativity, evolution, and music...we have children damnit!!!
I still cry watching this because mikey was a legend
How many songs have no chorus??? What a classic.

breathing slowwwwwwww. always been one of my favorites by the boys
The leaves seen through my window pane
Remind me that it's time to move my life again
November sun is felt by none
A chilly breeze has blown my thoughts to what's to come
A cup of warm coffee, some vitamin see
A bowl for the cat, a bowl for the dog, a bowl for me
Choose my bluest tape and unlock my car
An honest tune with a lingering lead has taken me this far
On the edge of the porch in the warm evening night
Throwing the bone for the dog I see two passing lights
Well, I wonder where that driver's bound
Is there someone, somewhere, someway out there that I've not found
A touch of smoke ain't what it seems
Dust and sunshine can also make my eyes look mean
But there's a brown cat sleeping through this day's show
Toppin' off the woodpile, breathing slow
There was a brown cat, named Brown Cat, that lived at the Panic house back in the day.
