Thanks for the video! After a few years, I finally decided to play Skyrim again on a new rig (fully modded of course), but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to create a second SteamApps for Skyrim. Took me a while before I finally stumbled on the video. I was a bit hesitant at first to use admin rights to execute a random .exe file, but everything seems to be working perfectly. Thanks again!
Creating that additional row on the same drive with the Steam Drive download tool was the sticky point for me but this vid cleared it up. Neither the readme of the tool itself or other YT vids explain this very well. Many thanks.
I just started modding Skyrim and let me tell you it is not as easy as I thought for someone who recently went from console to PC. I spent $1,700+ on my PC so I gotta add a ton of mods, yk? I was modding FO 4 not long ago with ease but Skyrim is completely different I realized due to its age but your videos are helping me out a ton. I never suggest moving mods from one mod manager to another. It's possible but its never been a perfect process. I can see nothing but complaints in the comments if I made a video on it lol = )
@@gamerpoets Apologies for the misunderstanding; I am not referring to switching to a different mod manager. 😅 What I mean is that I intend to keep MO2, but I want to transfer only the mods themselves to a different drive. For instance, my main drive (1TB) contains MO2 along with Skyrim. I also have modded games like Oblivion and Morrowind on my secondary 2TB drive, with their respective MO2 mod folders located on that drive. Although now Skyrim has been moved to the secondary drive, all of the MO2 mods are still on the main drive. How can I safely relocate the MO2 mod files from the main drive to the secondary drive? :)
Yes. Go into MO2's settings and you will see the file paths in there. The "Mods" folder is where all of the unpacked mods (the ones you see in the left pane of MO2) are stored. You can cut and paste that folder anywhere and then change the file path to point to it. Before doing anything I always recommned to make back ups. It may cause you to have to reorganize your load order. I haven't done it in a long time.
@@gamerpoets Do I also need to move my "downloads" and "profiles" folders to the new drive? And what about the others like crashdumps, logs, overwrite, and webcache? Your videos have been really helpful for this newb so thank you lol
you are the absolute best. You don't babble and get right too it clear and cut and you give all the options. I am currently still having issue with fallout new vegas on windows 11. Hoping this video helps with the other stuff that is not working (like vortex not launching the game which i am trying to do via vortex because it crashes)
@@gamerpoets that's why I been following your videos thanks to you I made a separate games folder in the same drive (it's a gaming laptop for "work") and with nvse and the 4gb mod via vortex it's been working find so far no crashing. Before the folder changed it would not even load via vortex at all. And outside of vortex crashing.
What a great video! You should make one for trouble shooting. With your voice you'd calm pretty much everyone during a breakdown. So soothing. Anyway, Baldur's Gate 3 still installs a Larian Studios folder in appdata (which contains save games and mods) even though my Steam library is on G: (for games). Why they do that is beyond me. As well as how to change it.
This doesn't work for me. When I select "add a drive" it lets me select a folder but then nothing happens. Also, when I click on the three dots and select "browse folder" nothing happens.
This does not seem to work anymore, at least for me. In an attempt to create a second steam directory on my C drive, outside of program files, it does not create the directory, it creates a steam apps folder but I am unable to move or see the directory while moving, downloading, or browsing directories on steam.
Nice job on the tutorial and happy to learn about the steam "other directory" button. Curious why you didn't move Steam out of program files rather than creating a second library on the same drive though?
You can't unless you reinstall Steam (and then you lose all your games and anything you modded in the game folders directly). You can cut and paste but then you have to deal with additional steps to make the new location register that you dont using these methods.
How would I go about only moving one game to the main directory, instead of adding a new steam library in the rows part? Couldn't I just name it for example this: C:\Skyrim Special Edition? I know I can just copy and paste, but after some playtime, I noticed that inside my progam86 folder in the steamapps, etc., had a second skyrim special edition folder with data and so forth. I need to do this in order to use voice over mods since it crashes unless the whole game is in the main C Drive and not any deeper.
Hello, first of all, thanks for the video, it solved my issue, well, kinda, there was another issue, i was moving everything to a new folder but on the same drive when i got the message: "Moving content for the following apps has failed: -Steamworks Common Redistributables: has shared content" what should i do about that? is that a problem?
Uninstall and reinstall steam outside the program files folder in the same drive if you want. I know some people only have a single drive on their pc. I do, and couldn't change the drive. So I changed the location of the steam itself. That means all the games you've installed will still be on the same drive, but outside of program files location. I don't know why steam doesn't allow us to have more than a single directory per drive, but here we are. And that's your solution. A lot of people complaining lately that their steam version of skyrim not loading with any mods, and they try to reinstall mods, change load order, wasting hours and hours, which I did. Then I tried this, and it finally worked. Well, program files is a protected folder by windows and will automatically block many actions that try to change the way certain apps work, which is exactly what mods are supposed to do.
Hello Gamerpoets...I would love to see you make a video on OpenMW. I would love to see you explain how to install mods the OpenMW way without MO2. You can choose the smallest modlist mentioned in their website "I heart Vanilla"
I cant download the 'Steam_library_setup_tool-3.2exe" its telling me "it isnt commonly downloaded, make sure you trust it before downloading it"? please help. im new at modding. Thank you.
Let's say, hypothetically, we only have C Drive, and we downloaded Steam and our games on C Drive and we have no other drive, at all. What would the Steam Library Setup tool do in that case?
It creates another folder on that main C drive away from the problematic Program Files x86 etc where you can store your Steam games. You can't just do it manually as Steam won't recognise it as a valid folder for downloads and storage. The Steam Library Set Up tool disguises that folder if you like, so Steam recognises it as its own.
Got it to work for some games, but games with dlc installed will not allow me to move them. It says it cannot be moved due to shared content when you attempt it. Is there any workaround for this? I'm sure it is a simple fix but I cannot find a way to move dlc for the life of me. Any response would be appreciated! Trying my best to not uninstall and reinstall all of the dlc again :/
I'm a huge computer novice and pretty much need unga bunga speech to understand these things. This video has been immensely helpful, however I am confused on the file path thing. How do you change the file path? Do you have another video covering the subject? I know the location in settings but I have zero clue what to do from there. Hey bud so I had a hard drive failing, I bought a new hard drive. Installed it and removed the old one after dragging all files over. I am aware this is not the best thing to do but I am a novice. Anyways all my saves seem to be there but I had to reinstall all the games. Anyways I noticed a bunch of games on my c drive which shouldn't have had any games on in to I followed one of your videos and brought them all over. While I was on the nvidia app I noticed duplicate games some as many as four, when checking the folder locations I still have steam folders and libraries on c drive. How do I safely merge all these files and folders? I only want my processor and stuff running on this drive and all my games on my big drive. C and G. C for processing and G for games.
Unfortunately I only have one drive, and they all go to my program folder. I can't have that happen otherwise I cannot use my mod tool for System Shock.
