Flour Gold university - xxx (lost number of successive course knowledge) Recently sent to Jason - but meant as a learn-up for all viewers. About sand, silt, and clay - finding gold It is extremely important to know about what strata gold hunters work. (1) Let's talk about Lake Superior - Sand, sand, sand, ... rounded cobbles, cobbles, and pebbles in the water ... black sands and sometimes shinies on the beach and dune slopes. What one sees on the beach sand shoreline is the massive amount of eroded sand, and other younger up-pushed eroded rocks and pebbles on the shoreline bed (that have to be eroded WAY AFTER) the smaller and older sand, black sand, and gold particles. Time and particle erosion size are the key hints. Rock types and hardness are not a real factor here. Erosion abrasiveness, continued erosion and particle disintegration, and time are all interlinked. The rocks be damned ! One looks at the more-ancient eroded sands on the beach ...and the more-recent erosion processes happening on the Great Lakes shoreline, The more-recent rocks and pebbles in the water. The more-ancient sands on the beach and dunes. One wants to look for (and find) the more-ancient and smaller sands, leading to the black sands and evaporate golds from the Abitibi gold veins from Ontario. Older black sands and gold will be found deeper down to the ultimate bedrock and the most-ancient of eroded shinies. You notice that we are talking sand, black sands, and shinies. There is no mention of silts and clays. They are more-ancient and most-ancient - why aren't they here on the shoreline. Because - they aren't ! (2) So what about those estuaries, deltas, swamps, riverine, and flatland regions - Sands, clays, and silts on the waterway bottoms. They are older eroded particles that intermingle between the more-recent eroded boulders, rocks, cobbles, and pebbles. Negate the topsoil of organics. Sand eroded under harsher and brutal circumstances, leaves more-ancient sand with its designated small particle size, than the larger and more-recent eroded rocks et al. We are looking at many ages of eroded difference in particle sizes.
The criteria for geology is - Gravel or stones larger than 2.0 mm larger than 8/100th inch Sand 0.05 - 2.0 mm 3/100th - 8/100th inch Silt 0.002 - 0.05 mm 8/100,000th inch - 3/100th inch Clay smaller than 0.002 mm smaller than 8/100,000th inch (3) Erosion and time - minus rock strata that is all the same for these particles The smaller the particle, the longer and more-ancient the erosion processes have dissolved the object into finer and finer particles. Clay by definition would be older than silt, that is older than sand, that is older than gravel, stones, cobbles, and pebbles. (4) Elemental sand, silt, and clays are from different, yet mutual geologies. While all 3 soil components - sand, silt, and clay - CAN CONTAIN similar elements like silicon (pure quartz), oxygen, and aluminum, the primary distinction lies in the relative proportions and specific mineral compositions. Sand primarily consists of quartz (silicon and oxygen), whereas silt contains a mix of minerals like quartz and mica, while clay is composed of complex layers of silicate minerals like kaolinite, that has a higher proportion of aluminum. Put that in layman words - Sand is large-eroded particle of (pure) quartz silicate and (oxidized) silicates. Sand MUST COME (ONLY COME) from silicates that are abrasively eroded (in larger particle size) from quartz and quartzite intrusive veins, ... AND/OR felsic (high silicate) granitic rocks. Granite is a deep underground (plutonic) igneous rock that is uplifted to the surface, being composed of quartz, potassium quartzite (feldspar), and mica. So if you have sandy beaches and sandy river beds, they can only have come from (relative term) more-recent ancient eroded quartz veins and.or uplifted granites. That is where both quartz and granites push up gold and other precious and industrial metals (silver, copper, tin, zinc, lead, iron, ...). All of the Great Lake sands of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ontario come from more-ancient eroded tectonic uplifts of quartz veins or granites.
Any black sands (of iron, iron-titanium, or iron-manganese) come from eroded ore veins, and not from igneous basalt mafic (low silicate and) high iron and manganese geologies. There are no volcanic basalt lavas in the greater Great Lakes region, ... so black sands can only come from the tectonic uplifts of the north-central Wisconsin mountain range, or the Great Lakes and glacial scrubbing would have ground them off from ore veins from Canada downwards. All of that has been previously written about considering alluvial gold, glacial gold, evaporate gold, etc. Any intermediate igneous rocks (having both mafic and felsic properties, like Andesite, or more refined Rhyolite (remelted granite), could provide those greenstone, bluestone, graystone iron compounds. Silt is far-older, and the most-ancient of the smallest of eroded particles of quartz and quartzite veins and granites, having those quartz and micas. Silt has taken a longer period to degrade sands into finer particles. The Great Lakes shorelines have minimal older silts and majority younger sands. Where you find old silts, you are looking at the more-ancient of erosions. Like sand and silt particles, gold will also be ground down and exist as particulate dust and flours, versus pickers and larger sizes that could be with younger sandy geologies. Clays are the smallest and most-ancient of eroded quartz and alumino-silicates, having taken the longest time of erosion, dissolution, and eventually swept away by high water flows (flash floods, landslides, earthquake) and sent into slow and low near-absolute zero water flow and sedimentary deposition. When you see clays, you are looking at ancient. Sand will fall quickly in low and slow water. Silt will take longer in even slower water. Clay will take the longest path of sedimentation and deposition in near-still waters.
If you find sands, you will have a younger bed, and a stronger (previous or current) water flow. If you find more-recent sand above more-ancient silt, there has been a change of the most-ancient past of slow and extreme erosion and water flow depositing silt, then more-recent higher rates of erosion and water flow depositing sands atop silts. If you find clays atop sands or silts, you have extreme geological erosion pattern of the past. Most-ancient clays and more-ancient silts together are ancient erosions amd deposits. More-recent sand above most-ancient clay is a younger bed atop an older bed, just like more-recent sand above more-ancient silt. Any appearance of more-ancient silt or most-ancient clay above a more-recent sandy layer, shows an extreme overturn of geology (flash floods, landslides) massive earthquake disruption, and deposition of massively older eroded particles being swept over and deposited atop newer and younger eroded sand particles. Knowing your soil strata and erosion dating in the highlands, lowlands, flatlands, and shorelines, gives you a greater knowledge of when and where to look for gold nuggets, pellets, pickers, sand, flour, and dust. Nuggets are from harsh erosion near a (mother lode) gold vein, and high water/rain/snow/ice weather patterns dropping them close or further away from the mother lode on the tectonic mountain side. Such are the multiple commercial gold, silver, and iron mines in the Wisconsin north-central mountain range. Pellets and pickers are greatly eroded smaller particles that are further washed down the mountain side into the lowlands and flatlands. They can be found in the mountain rivers, streams, creeks,... and lying atop bare bedrock (or bedrock cracks and seams) with black sand, ... while the sands, silts, and clays are swept further downstream to calmer waters. Gold sand, flour, and dust, are the smallest particles (that now includes solar gold dusting of the Earth)/ They will be found in the lowlands, flatlands, estuaries, deltas, swamps, ... and those that are pushed up by water and wind actions from the Great Lakes (and ancient glacial scrubbings) onto the sandy shorelines. These are massively old gold particles versus their younger sandy and black sand companion/ These same sands and black sands are even older than the various rocks and pebbles that litter the lake bed shorelines. Although gold often does get stuck in old and sticky fine clays, only old gold dust and flours would be in this association. When one is working silts of more-ancient quartz and granites, there is a higher probability of finding gold dust and flour here than in older clays. When one works more-recent sands, with more-recent black sands, they are most-likely working more-recent gold pickers to dust and flours on the beach. In flatlands, they could be also working more-ancient gold particles.. As mentioned before in reading streams and creeks, and noting where (and where not) black sands also overlay or intermingle with clays, silts, and sands, you would find black sands and gold particles together. One needs to read any bedrock, then the upper geology around the waterway and surrounding shores, and work back up away from older clays and silts, into younger sands and black sands. Any cross-bed, ancient movements of river, steam, and creek beds cutting to the left, right, or even change and scour out new perpendicular waterways, one must go back in one's mind and reread the entire area, see the bedrock, find the most-ancient of clays and silts, ... and work upstream of those ancient sediments to get into the sands and black sands, where the highest of gold particles will be found ... and in the bedrock seams, cracks, ... and exposed quartz veins that might still be apparent at the surface. Erosion, landscape, time, particle size, ... and companion sedimentary depositions will tell you more of the geology in the area, and where you need to be looking upstream, downstream, or side-to-side of a modern stream, ... or moving along a Great Lakes shoreline and finding the sweet spot of black sand and gold depositions on the surface or deep down where no man has explored.
Oh man it looks like you guys had a blast, We have got to get there next year for sure and play some.Rigby looked like he was really in his element pal so nice to see. Alrighty Then, I felt like I was there for the Tap To The Top. As a pateron patron, I'll say it was worth the wait. What a showing for the Team, and a Freeeeekin Dream Nugget . Kablammo!!!. Thanks Jason, and traveling wizards team, it was a blast .
Morning All, Andrew, Dirty Gold Prospecting, first gotta give a shout out to , Jason, thanks for everything you do!! To think I was on the fence about going well didn't take long ,got site . Really don't wanna miss a day with the guys n gals for good times on creek and of course after a hard day of Prospecting hanging out with all. Also need too thank John he helped me lift slucie up and out as not too wash that beautiful nugget away, I can't. Explain the feelings I had except , they where very intense!! I reran cons over my combo dream matt too reduce cons that you get with miners moss. Classified down for that special FGW clean up slucie, didn't see anything in bigs, gonna look at again and pan out, as with the other 2 classes, gonna run it today, sniffer up about 75 plus PCs, of indicator matt as I ran material, still got Fridays cons. To do yet also. Hopeing be done end of week separate ,dry and weigh all, I'll put that up on , paterons. Sorry for being long winded but, what can I say, I kinda figured you would have your laughing buddie too , that makes a great ending, makes me laugh every time I see it 😅. Good Day All...wow! 7600 plus views!!
I’m glad I was there to give you a hand with that nugget. I couldn’t believe that was a piece of gold. Unbelievable for Wisconsin, I was glad I was there to see it and give you a hand. Good luck in the future, heavy pans…
Thanks, Jason😊, I appreciate the compliment. Ran sat. Material yesterday, lots Lil ones, like we all would wonder if one got caught, just gonna start running fri.material, shortly. Pan it, then pan , bigs- littles. Didn't mention creek I got permission to did find some PCs, gotta find where the gang hangs out! Have a wonderful day.. thanks man!!!
well got a mini van to day but still goting to be a month to get a replacement headlight. but i wont be missing any more outings! thanks for the share! stay awesome Jason!
Awesome outing Jason 👍👍 Weee dawgies , that guy found a Beauty nugget 💥, Lucky Bugger !!!! 👌Great times with lots of fun and heaps of Cobbles , lol . Well done all you guys 👍 Cheers Ned . ✌
Was up in your neck of the woods, literally and figuratively, as I visited the north woods of WI, visiting my sister in Rhinelander. Went up to the UP and saw the beautiful Lake Superior you have panned/sluiced. Wow, was warm and humid, but a fun time. Thanks for the videos!
Im betting you were tired after this one! You had all the ingredients for a great time🍻. The Cologuard container was the prize of the day......200k kan🍻👍
Yeeehaarrr river rats lol lol What a great fun day out lads And well how doo look at that nugget well done and congratulations You got a good amount of too Jason Bloody Rigby and his harem lol lol 😂 Nice guys Cheers 🍻 CrouchOz
Nothing surprises me anymore about the fact one must undertake recreational persuits in order for one to find health body and enlightenment shore getting out and about keepining an eye on your mental health whilst doing so is one of life's richest gains as we age,,however its not about getting rich for we find richness when we congragate and have fun doing so,, Owe and whilst sluicing finding some FG just makes it all worthwhile,,keep rolling guys its a healthy persuit that's full of richness, Well done crew hope you had a splashing time.❤😂
Congratulations on reaching 75k subscribers Mister Wizard and being present 😁 when the Wisconsin golden boulder was found ,it was no flour gold🥳, happy panning ✨🥂🐾
Well, now that sluices are banned from the lakes, the gold will continue to build up while undisturbed until you find another way to have harvest it, perhaps this new gold pan I sent you news of. The video is called 156: New Gold Pan Invention!
Saw a 3/4 oz copper/gold halfbreed nugget that was metal detected around West Bend. I nailed a 1 gram nugget in Lake Michigan black sand north of Sheboygan.
I sent you a UA-cam video on a new gold pan, which is much faster than a traditional pan. This pan swirls round and round at high speed by pulling on a cord using centrifugal force very quickly ejecting the pebbles and sand, and separating the gold from the rest. I hope you received it. I think it woukd be great for Lake Superior!
Jason, it was fun being a part of the Patreon’s outing again. Always lots of fun. Plus you got some nice gold and I was right there when Andy found the nugget and helped him carefully get it out of the sluice. What a day, Holy Wa!! Then after a hard day mining it is cobbles Maximus 🍻 Thanks for another outing I had a blast. I got your cleanup sluice put together and all the cons classified. I’m going to run the cons tomorrow. Thanks again Jason 🍻🍺
Looks like an awesome time. Sorry I'm not a patron. Stupid job won't allow time. Thanks for taking us along. Congrats on your beautiful outing. Keep showing the golden line.
Me & my daughter just missed you guys! We stayed Thursday night and looked for some yellow stuff in the morning. We had a great time, and it looks like you guys did as well. Your channel gave me another adventurous activity to do with my daughter. We love your channel, and we cannot thank you enough! Cobbles!
Just got back and unloaded, had a great time meeting everyone. I'll send you pics of what I got when I get to it. Thanks for the 6" VDR Head! It is going to work great!
Might have to come to the next outing just for some of that lemonade ❤. I honestly didn't even know you could find gold that big in Wisconsin. Gonna go dig up the back yard 😂
I'm still trying to find a camper that do t cost a billion dollars, but my daughter bugs me every day about going to find gold. She says we're cheating when I get it in the gravel pits 😅
Well that looked like a great weekend and all that gold to boot thanks for taking us along and doesn't it always come back to poop joke's 😂 thanks again Chris the porch miner
Thanks Jason, great day for everyone to get together and add to the large 100,000 subscriber container that you are reaching at a steady pace. Thank you sharing your good times.
I saw on another video where a guy shows how he boils the concentrates with salt then pans it after it cools and claims it seperates the gold from the blacks sands better

Looks like another great outing. That nugget was really something. Cobbles maximus! 🍺
Cobbles Maximus !!
Nothing surprises me anymore about the fact one must undertake recreational persuits in order for one to find health body and enlightenment shore getting out and about keepining an eye on your mental health whilst doing so is one of life's richest gains as we age,,however its not about getting rich for we find richness when we congragate and have fun doing so,,
Owe and whilst sluicing finding some FG just makes it all worthwhile,,keep rolling guys its a healthy persuit that's full of richness,
Well done crew hope you had a splashing time.❤😂
We certainly did 😃👍🏻
Congratulations on reaching 75k subscribers Mister Wizard and being present 😁 when the Wisconsin golden boulder was found ,it was no flour gold🥳, happy panning ✨🥂🐾
What a surprise to find !!!
Well, now that sluices are banned from the lakes, the gold will continue to build up while undisturbed until you find another way to have harvest it, perhaps this new gold pan I sent you news of. The video is called 156: New Gold Pan Invention!
Roger that !
Saw a 3/4 oz copper/gold halfbreed nugget that was metal detected around West Bend. I nailed a 1 gram nugget in Lake Michigan black sand north of Sheboygan.
Awesome!
I’ll look for it ✅
Jason, it was fun being a part of the Patreon’s outing again.
Thank you for joining in ! 😃✅🍻
