Needham Saylor, coach for Loyall ending up Being Harlan Co Superintendent of schools. His son Tim coached at Cumberland Hgh school, Cawood High school and Pineville. I played for his son Sam at Wallins junior high. Sam also coached at Cawood with his brother Tim. Dickie Parsons on the Harlan team went on to be as Asst coach for Joe B Hall at UK for the mens basketball team.
Thanks for sharing this video. I went to school at Loyall from 1st to 8th grade. I graduated in 84. Once a Loyall Indian always a Loyall Indian. Class of 84.
That's a really neat piece of history Coyote! Really nice that he sent you that old program! It's great that they saved the old Loyall school by repurposing it, I wish more communities would save history doing that. Thanks for sharing the music history!
I really enjoyed this video! I went to Loyall from 1st through the 8th grade. That would have been from 66 - 73. It looks a lot different now, but WOW! So many good memories ☺️
Seems that a common fate for old school buildings is to wind up as a city building. One thing I've noticed about Eastern Kentucky is how serious they take high school sports. Part of that building looks like it was added on in the '70s. My cat is 11 years old and 17 pounds....the vet classed him as " mighty chunk". Neat little bit of history. Wonder how they got the " Green Dragons" as a team name?
You're right, high School sports is the biggest thing in most of these towns they love their teams. I've wondered that about the Green dragons myself, even the city cop cars in Harlan are green and white.
Really enjoyed your video on the Loyall High. My mother attended high school there. I saw on Facebook where the Wallins school is being/been demolished; do you have any videos of that? Thanks for making your videos my Mom and Dad really enjoy your work: it is the next best thing to a visit back home
That's sad to hear about the Wallins school. I'll have to see if I can do a video on it before it's gone. Thanks so much for watching it's appreciated!

Thanks Mitch! I was shocked to find out someone who graduated Loyall School in Harlan county in 1949 wrote an Elvis Costello song!
