    I really loved this cake!!I have a question that what is the difference between frosting and icings and what have you used. i am from India it would be a little harder to get those ding dongs!

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  9 років тому

      Avantika Karir Hi Avantika, find something sweet and round that you do have in India :) the words Frosting and Icing are the same, but there are many differences in both. I use a product called Pastry Pride that is more of a Whip Topping. Decorating Buttercream is a shortening based icing that is made with a high ratio shortening for stability. ua-cam.com/video/QP9qKAJXHFE/v-deo.html, This is a video of how I make Decorating Buttercream. Thanks

    The cake is beautiful. I've been looking at castle cakes, making plans to put together a small one. Your idea of pre baked goods makes more sense than anything else I've seen. Thank you so much. Would you please share your buttercream recipe, it looks so light and smooth?

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  8 років тому

      +Annie Wells Thank you so much for watching! The icing we are using in this video is Pastry Pride whipped topping, and it can be found in most restaurant supply stores. This cake looks great with butter cream also, the recipe for that is below.
      DECORATING BUTTERCREAM
      2 CUP SHORTENING (SWEETEX)
      1 CUP MILK (CANNED MILK IS GOOD)
      2 TSP VANILLA
      1 TSP. ALMOND EXTRACT
      ½ TSP.BUTTER FLAVORING
      3 LB. POWDERED SUGAR
      2 tsp. salt
      Mix together and beat 10 minutes until light and fluffy
      Will keep in refrigerator for about 2 wks. Is enough
      To ice and decorate an 8 or 9 inch double layer cake.
      You can cut the recipe in half if you don't need that much.

    I'm so excited to make the Frozen cake for my grandaughter this weekend.
    Can I make it the day before? What is the earliest I can make it?
    Can you make the snowflakes with royal icing or will it be to fragile?
    Also, I've never stacked a cake but I did go back and watch the 'wedding cake stacking.
    Just the 4 dowels in a circle, correct?

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  9 років тому

      Lisa Gillette-GLICK Hi Lisa, yes you can make it the day before, but I would clear out the fridge and keep it cool and safe until the party. Yes Royal icing will work fine, just remember they need a couple of days to dry and they Can't go in the fridge. You'll have to put them on the day of the party. They melt in the fridge. 4 dowells should be plenty but use your judgement more can't hurt. Please send us a photo at " the art of frosting' on Facebook. I can't wait to see it. Happy Decorating!

      cesar martinez Cesar, I really like using Pastry Pride or Rich's Bettercream. They are very stable and not too sweet. You can find them both at restaurant supply stores like smart and final or Cash and Carry. Some Cake Decorating Supply stores or kitchen shops carry it as well. Here is a recipe for my decorating buttercream as well. ua-cam.com/video/QP9qKAJXHFE/v-deo.html

    very sloppy. I think adding muffins, donuts and ding dongs are just plan lazy. I would be pissed to. get a cake like that. kindof gross

    • @incogneshwari
      @incogneshwari 8 років тому +4

      She DID say she wanted to do an easier version, and for most of us out there who aren't professional bakers, the easy way out sounds splendid. Nowhere did she say that professionals should use this method. You needn't be this negative in your comments. You could have easily said the same thing in politer words.

    • @charityloechel7369
      @charityloechel7369 8 років тому +2

      Doesn't matter if it's a kids cake or not or if you are a professional baker or a regular at home baker it still should look good if your going to do a UA-cam how-to video. Using donuts, ding dongs and other bake goods from a box doesn't really make it your cake not to mention how gross it looks and sounds. Just as easy to make small cakes to replace the prepackaged bake goods/ cupcakes. Plus I don't think I was to rude. When you post videos you expect some criticism.

    hi liz. just wanna say that I love this cake. its AMAZING.. I want to try and do it but I have a few questions.. at the beginning of the video. you made the snow flakes out of white chocolate.. so is that only white chocolate that is melted or how did u make it? also the blue thing you put the cones ins. is it just white chocolate melted with blue color? or can you please tell me how you did it exactly.. or is it just blue icing??? well hopefully you can answer me.. thanks :)

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  9 років тому

      alejandra g I am just us.ing "white chocolate" or "Candy Melt" Wilton brand. The Blue on the cones is the same "candy Melt" you can add an oil based food coloring to white chocolate to get the same effect. You could also use Royal icing for both , but it would need to dry overnight.

    Hello,First off this cake is amazaing. Wonderful job. Very creative. I'm plan on attempting to make this cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I just have a few questions.
    1.What icing did you use to decorate the 10 inch round cakes? Can I use a buttercream?
    2.Do i use oil base coloring for chocolate on cones? Do I use water based coloring for coloring icing?
    3.What is crumb icing? Can I just use your regular "decorating icing" to cover towers?
    4. Which type of icing did you use in the quick icer?
    Thank you very much Amanda Smith

      @jacobson68  9 років тому

      Butter cream is perfect for this cake for all the surfaces. We used the White Chocolate (candymelt) on the tYou tops of the towers. You need an oil based food coloring to add to the chocolate to change the color, a water base will seize the chocolate. If you live in the US look for Wilton Candy Melt at Walmart. A Crumb Icing just refers to the light coat of icing put on before the main icing to keep the crumbs out of the icing. We use Buttercream also in the Quick icier.

    Hi Liz great cake. Now how do you cut it up and serve it?

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  10 років тому

      Lonna Matthews Hi Lonna, ummm that's a good question :) Well, I think I would remove the back two towers, bottom and top, then begin to cut across the back in 2x2 slices (like a brick layer). This cake is a 10" round and will serve about 36 cut this way. Thanks Liz

    Hi Liz! I love this cake! I have a question? Does the cake have to be kept in fridge after making? Is the icing whip icing? Did you put cake in fridge after putting on crumb icing? Did you use the bamboo dowels? Did you add food coloring to the icing or add blue buttercream icing? Sorry all the questions! I am making this for my daughter this weekend! ;) Thank you! Christina

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  10 років тому +1

      Christina Singleton Hi Christina, yes bamboo dowells, we used Pastry Pride Whip Topping, but Buttercream would be fine here too. It doesn't have to go in the fridge if you are going to use it within a few hours. Both icings are fine to be left out, unless it's very hot. I never like to leave any cake out more than a few hours though. We added food coloring to our icing, but either way would work. Please share a photo of the cake when it's done on FB "the art of frosting"

    Can I use butter cream for this cake? Also what kind of icing did you use to stick the donuts together? Thanks!

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  9 років тому

      Denise Larara, yes buttercream will work, but be careful to use a High Ratio shortening. It won't hold up if you use butter or regular shortening. I used the same icing for the entire cake. I used a product called "Pastry Pride"" you can find it at restaurant supply stores.

    My boy will turn 3 this coming August and he's been telling me that he wants to have a prince themed party. I've watched several castle cake tutorials but most them use lots of fondants, and I am not that fond of sugar. This cake is the perfect answer for me! Best part is, my son loves blue! Thank you so much! Will definitely try this out!

      Unfortunately this woman is still on the basics. If it's done properly then ya don't need skewers etc. the only thing in a cake should be just that, cake. Icing. No wood. Should be all completely edible. I'd find a professional, not these amateurs.

    This is an awesome cake! Is it crucial to use the icing recipes you have listed? Is it possible to use a cool whip type icing or store bought regular icing.(I usually get pillsbury...)

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  10 років тому

      Elizabeth Harmon Hi Elizabeth, you just need a very stable icing. I use a "whip topping" type icing called Pastry Pride Whip topping or Rich's Better cream. They are very light tasting, but will hold their shape. Try your local restaurant supply store like, Smart and Final

      +acar yavuz Hi Acar, it depends on where you live and what the market dictates. Where I live this cake would most likely cost about $200. If you are asking about ingredient cost, I would guess roughly $40. cakedecoratiginstructor.com

    • @brittanythompson4032
      @brittanythompson4032 9 років тому

      It's chocolate that you can melt an not have to temper it. So yes all it is, is chocolate

    • @jacobson68
      @jacobson68  9 років тому

      Becky Hodgkins Royal icing is a hard drying icing made with powdered sugar and egg white. Candy melt is basically white chocolate that is colored. YOu can buy it in the US at Walmart or Michael's or Joanne, or any cake decorating supply store. You can even get it online.
