    They're called clips because as introduced in ME2 all guns use Thermal Clips which are disposable heat sinks. All the guns shoot bullets the size of a grain of sand that is shaved off a block of metal within the gun and fired at an extreme speed. This shaving and firing of the bullets generates a lot of heat which is directed into the thermal clips to prevent the gun from melting. Vintage heat sinks are what was used before and they weren't swapped out instead they just needed to be allowed to cool off which stopped the gun from firing since if you continued it would damage the gun or the user

    • @ABQSentinel
      @ABQSentinel 7 років тому +2

      They are called clips because Bioware, like so many other video game developers, misnamed them to begin with. A magazine is a feeding device for a gun (in this case, it feeds heat sinks), whereas a clip is a reloading device for a magazine (one that is usually internal and fixed).

    • @Snotnarok
      @Snotnarok 6 років тому +4

      I know this is an old comment but, I don't see how that's right. You're inserting a thermal heat sink, it isn't feeding ammo or anything else into the gun. The heatsink is one component, it's not ammo, it's not holding anything. The ammo is a solid metal bar that a computer calculates and shaves off ammo to be fired at the target- that's not part of the thermal clip.
      There's no real-world term for it. It's not Duke Nukem where he's calling actual pistol magazines clips, it's a scifi world calling a scifi thing a name.

    • @truestrength
      @truestrength 3 роки тому

      @@ABQSentinel yeah, they're not magazines because they don't hold ammunition. They basically hold the ignition for the gun. Basically it's finite primers that shoot off from the weapon. It's a clip because it's essentially a piece of something, you can't load it

  • @ODST_Parker
    @ODST_Parker 7 років тому +20

    They call it a clip because it isn't actually the ammunition, it's just a heat sink that gets ejected to prevent the weapon from overheating. I guess they call it a clip because it ejects similarly to old weapons like the M1. The weapons they use in the Milky Way have internal blocks of of metal that can be chipped off to provide thousands of rounds for the weapons, which are basically miniature railguns.

      Came in to say this as well. If you play the earlier games you will hear the term "thermal clip" starting with ME2. Prior to that all the weapons operated similar to the Remnant gear, i.e. no spent ammunition, just heat management. In any event, they aren't really clips or magazines in the traditional sense.

    Love that you are making these again,
    ME3's MP was well amazing, at a very important stage of my life, this game and your videos provided a lot of entertainment and escapism.
    The tips/tricks and mechanics i learned by watching your videos propelled me into Platinum solo runs and clutch carries and truly increased my love of this game as well as skill/ n7 rating.
    I don't feel like i need these anymore... but I still love watching your vids.

    I agree with the health reduction on enemies. Had an Isharay that did 1400 damage, then had a 40% buff on top of that (basically 2000 damage) and I couldn't even body shot Adhi or Raiders in 1 hit. It's a 1-shot sniper rifle. It should easily be able to instakill small enemies with 1 body shot. Also, the hitbox for registering headshots is kinda messed up.

    I disagree with using the talon and falcon. If you want insane dps, for and away the best setup is revenant wth disruptor ammo and the accuracy and stability upgrades from turbo charge and munitions training. If you're with your team, you can spray down entire rooms of enemies and prime all of them. Additionally, a turbocharged revenant can kill any non boss enemy in seconds. It's insane.

    Hmm I'll have to experiment with this build if I use the Revenant, Supercharge will make me go though the clip in 8.917 seconds, while Dump Heat will make it last 11.406 seconds which is just shy of thew 12 seconds duration. And as the Revenant is quite inaccurate, I'll try out Precision first for that added accuracy first

    "Bioware, please, make the game easier. We don't want any kind of challenge and lowering difficulty setting is for pussies. We want to do all these platinum runs without even a scratch. We so want to feel good about ourselves."
    This is basically what I hear when I listen to someone bitching about nerfing health of enemies, reducing cooldowns or increasing weapon/power damage all over the board. Really, If you think enemies are too difficult or guns /powers too weak in general - play on bronze.
    Now buffing up SOME powers / weapons and nerfing SOME enemies does make sense. There shouldn't be any small, unshielded or unarmored enemy able to sustain direct hit from top sniper rifles at a distance or a top shotgun in close quarters. That's simply implausible and takes out all the fun. So yeah, there's a lot of work regarding balancing to be done by Bioware but making the game generally easier is not the answer to the problems of Andromeda's multiplayer.

  • @devoreirvin59
    @devoreirvin59 7 років тому

    It's obvious they wanted to make this game a little harder than 3. With the damage lowering of explosions and stuff. In ME3 you could cheese the fuck out of gold with warp and throw asari. You didn't even need to bring a weapon. So I doubt they will do much to change the way it is now. My only hope is that they introduce more modes and creative characters so the game doesn't get stale like ME3 did

      oh think of it as a battery you eject the spent ones when it fills up with heat (firing the weapon generates friction [why frictionless materials increase "ammo-capacity"]) and insert a new one so the weapon doesn't melt the ammo block inside. all the kinetic weapons in mass effect are railguns that cut tiny shavings off of a solid metal block(no gunpowder), apologies for the rabid lore comments from everyone in the comment section.
      technically all the guns in mass effect are using biotics to throw tiny objects lol. meaning if you built Ezo nodes into armor and hit them with an electric charge anyone could use biotics!

    I want to comment about the magazine thing. Pop culture has a bad habbit of calling magazines, "clips". People think that clips is the correct term. Bioware did this in Mass Effect 2 when they changed it to thermal clips but they were wrong from the start. A lot of movies and other video games do this as well and it is just wrong. This is what a gun clip looks like s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/10/b2/0f/10b20f40107647687d660a7f53643b60.jpg 44 We use thermal magazines in Mass Effect.

    • @ABQSentinel
      @ABQSentinel 7 років тому

      I absolutely agree and it drives me crazy. You constantly hear people in movies and video games (even games like Call of Duty where they should friggin know better!) call feeding devices "clips" when this is absolutely incorrect. The fastest and surest way to demonstrate that you don't know shit about guns is to refer to a magazine as a "clip".

    • @chrisconley7282
      @chrisconley7282 7 років тому

      Yes and people use this too much. The "clip" came from WW1 or WW2 weapons, specially like the M1 Garand. The M1 Rifle had an 8 round "clip". This clip was a slightly curved metal bracket or strip used for holding a single column of rounds. Rounds were inserted (pre combat) into the clip by pressing the back of the round into the top of the clip.

You get 28+% weapon damage, can restore your and teams shields, AOE stun enemies (including armored ones), get easy revives and objectives with barricade. It is my go to class for gold. I am sure there are rare classes that are better, but of all common ones, I found the sentinel to be most useful.

    I have to agree with lowering enemies's health. I get it, they want to make the game feel challenging. But it so much less satisfying. Roztopasnik I did not notice enemies in Andromeda being bigger bullet sponges. Just like in ME3 if you cooperate with the team and focus fire its just challenging but not unfair. In fact thanks to how powers work in Andromeda I would say it is easier to control groups of enemies.

    • @_rozto
      @_rozto 7 років тому

      I have to say, as I play more and more, that gold difficulty might be a bit easier with certain ch, but - at least for me less satisfying. It is pretty challenging, to stay alive and kill all those enemies with weapons that do very little damage.
      I have to give you one, you are right, it is not unfair, it's just a bit different from me3, which can be good. Funny thing is-as i started to play gold and got how to survive the bronze diff became a child's game ^^

    • @FlakiCiociGosi
      @FlakiCiociGosi 7 років тому

      Roztopasnik I feel there is a much bigger focus on abilities in this game. In ME3 yes- i mostly relied on weapons. Here it seems to be all about combos. They make a huge difference not just because of damage, but the debuffs and stuns related to them. I am now mostly ignoring chars which do not have detonators ( as you can prime with weapons). Chars which can self combo are best. Asari adept, human sentinel, engineers are very good in teamplay. Two asaris with sentinels make gold a joke (constant combos and shield recharge for whole team)

    • @_rozto
      @_rozto 7 років тому

    With the enemy's health situation, in ME3 I could dumpster everything in bronze and silver with mediocre weapons. In this game I have multiple ultra rares that actually seem to do like nothing on low difficulties. And same with abilities. On my full build human sentinel it feels like my abilities do absolutely nothing comboing by myself. Idk. Seems grinding this game is more tedious than ME3 besides when I just faceroll the vanguards melee builds.

      Well ME3 I didn't get lag, getting kicked out on the last round of a gold match 5 times in a row, my character can't move at all, and teleporting enemies. idk maybe its because I played ME3 on xbox and now I playing Andromeda on pc.

    • @FlakiCiociGosi
      @FlakiCiociGosi 7 років тому

      Storm Dasher I played ME3 on both of those platforms. ME3 from the start had synchronisation issues, even during the Valentine's Beta. They got relatively smoothed out over the next few months, but at the beginning all those things you described were definitely there AND more. Who can forget becoming invisible or stuck in the stairs? Andromeda is not worse than ME3 was at launch in terms of MP. It is about the same. I think this is more disappointing, that they didnt iron out the netcode/network approach based on leasons learned from ME3.
      EDIT: Also, by kicked out do you mean the game crashing? I believe this is separate from straight up lag, but most likely still an issue with netcode.
