Hey Jermaine - I've been to Norway. Oslo is cool BUT Norway outside the city is just BEAUTIFUL! You should take a tour to the fjords!

    •  5 років тому +15

Yes, that's absolutely true, and I am from Oslo myself. Visiting Norway and staying only in Oslo is almost like spitting on our country, in a way. We're not like Denmark where Copenhagen area feels like half the country or more, it's the complete opposite, Oslo is just a tiny dot in a huge country, with totally boring nature and vistas compared to what's outside Oslo. And again, I come from Oslo and even I say this...

    • @Nor1MAL

It's weird that no one actually has seen housekeeping in hotels doing it, or asked how to at least the duvet cover. Usually, what they do, is that they reach their hands inside the duvet cover through the opening (usually always at the bottom of the cover in hotels), which is inside out at that point, put their hands in the far corners on the opposite end, grab the duvet at the corresponding corners, then just let the duvet cover cover the duvet with a shaking motion up and down, so the duvet cover becomes the right way out. You then proceed to make sure the corners next to the hole is laying correct inside the duvet cover. It's not complicated, it's just a matter of knowing how to do it; and I'm not and have ever been in housekeeping, though it was my brother who taught me it.

The electric car thing is because 1.) the Norwegians have gone all in on non-petrol based energy sources including hydro-electric, solar and battery storage for transport. 2.) the government pays people to go for electric vehicles. Tesla's are one of the few 100% electric vehicles in the world and so this with the gov't subsidy is why there are so many of those in that country.

All cars in Norway that has license plates that starts with EL, EK, EV; are electric cars. EL is for Electric, EK is for Electric Vehicle (Elektrisk Kjøretøy), EV is for Electric Vehicle. Why that is, well, EL and EK license plates is more or less been used up, since we only have two letters followed by 5 numbers, like EL 10000.

Hey! I live in Oslo and i love to see the city from your perspective! For your information, the big amount of electric cars is a result of something called: bompenger. The city and the areas around is parter into different sones. When you cross the different sones, you have to pay an amount of money, the bompenger. Since it is better for the environment with electric cars, the government has decided that the people driving them, dont need to pay when crossing the sones.

There is a video on UA-cam on how to put on duvet covers the easy way.
Norway seems to be spending their money wisely. Updating the infrastructure, upgrading heating and cooling, and creating new energy efficient buildings. Using electric cars. They have to since they are very close to the melting glaciers.

    • @Nor1MAL
      @Nor1MAL 5 років тому +1

WTF? We have to use electric cars because we are close to melting glaciers? You know Norway is a mountainous country right? It's where the word fjord is from, as in we are not Denmark (which is very flat)! We also rely a lot on hydroelectric power; and most years we produce more electricity that way than we use ourselves.
Why there is a lot of electric cars in Norway right now, is because they are much cheaper, both in buying them and using them; not to mention several benefits, like no road toll on roads that have them, free parking many places, free charging while parked in Oslo many places and ability to use the collective lane, but in rush hour it has to be 2 people or more in the car some places and more. Many if not most of these benefits will eventually be phased out. Fossil fuels are expensive here, even though we are a oil nation...

It's cute that he's wondering where all the people are - they're AT WORK, probably! :) It looks to be early in the day, and after the morning rush hour it gets pretty quiet for a while. And if he was here on a weekend, early mornings on weekens are also pretty quiet everywhere until 10:00 when stores open.

The small "houses" stacked on top of each other are where the construction workers often live while working on a project as most of them come from eastern European countries.

  • @VinceDae

The “stacked” houses are worker houses where the builders have offices etc... :) (that’s why they are at construction sites ) :D

Jermaine from what I was told when I worked in Norway from a co worker who was Danish but was married to a Norwegian women that it is roughly only about 10% of the land that can be constructed on so yeah they do need to have a lot of construction where it is an option but the space between the opera house and on the other side of the street has changed alot since I was there since it was in one of the buildings behind there where I worked

The electric cars are quite common in Norway because they get a lot of benefits compared to non-EVs (no VAT, ...)

Fun fact. You can easily see if a car is electric in Norway by looking at the license plate. If it starts with an E, it`s electric.

You missed out. When in Norway you should also gone to
Ålesund (My home town) (Buildt in a special style popular for turists)
Geiranger (for awesome mountain and waterfalls)
Trollveggen (Europes talles cliff 1700 meter from top to bottom of the valley)
Trollstien (A narrow road that snakes up the mountain side)
All these spots are quite close to each other. =)

And IMO Oslo is one of the more boring places in Norway. The other major cities are all beautiful, but the nature is probably the biggest reason to go to Norway. Especially the fjords and mountains mostly in western Norway. A great trip if you're here for a week would be to take two or three days in Bergen (2nd biggest city), a few days seeing different fjords in Sogn og Fjordane (a region north of Bergen), back to Bergen to take the train to Oslo. The trainride in itself is something quite special, and you get to see so much of Norway, but it takes seven or eight hours and even Norwegians find the trainride expensive compared to other ways of transportation (fun fact: it is often cheaper to take a plane from Bergen to Oslo than the train, and the plane ride in itself only takes about 40-50 minutes depending on weather). The trip ends with one day in Oslo before leaving.
As a Norwegian, I think this is the best way to experience what Norway has to offer. If you're going during the winter though, I'd take the trip to the northern part of the country, where you have quite a decent chance of seeing northern lights during your stay, but the sun won't be there until spring.

You should publish a travel ebook. Your perspective of being an adult who finances his travels with gig economy income is probably unique. You could also include which cities are good/bad for eboarding. I saw a documentary about two young men who started the only skateboard company in Egypt. American skateboard movies were their inspiration. The have a small skateboarding group, at least one young woman but their group get odd looks.
