  • Why Apple Products Are Getting So Expensive: • Why Apple Products Are...
    Apple was cofounded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. But it was Jobs who eventually served as the company’s CEO and led the creation of Apple’s biggest hit products. Including the Macintosh, iPod, iPhone, and iPad. And if you know a little bit of Apple history, you’ll remember Jobs was actually forced out of Apple back in 1985 when the board of directors deemed him unfit to occupy any major role at the company. And it was at that point when things started to take a turn for the worst. In the following twelve years, Apple would burn through three different CEOs, none of which had the leadership required to restore profitability to Apple. That is, until Steve Jobs returned to the company in 1997. At which point he refocused Apple’s efforts into making a few great products, rather than dozens of mediocre products, one of which was the infamous iMac in 1998 which single handedly brought Apple back from the brink of bankruptcy, and returned the company to profitability.

    They started the trend of gluing in batteries, which other companies eventually followed. They don`t sell you any spare parts. You either use third party spare parts, which often are inferior or go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider and let them do the repair. They overcharge you for the repair and make you clear, that you`re better off just buying a new model. Recently, the Canadian CBC did a piece on that with hidden cameras.
    Recycled Aluminum in the 2018 Mac Mini and MacBook Air? They give money to charity and have two robots, that can recycle your old iPhones? Most of them end up in Africa anyway, where African kids “recycle” them, while breathing in the toxic fumes. They even run on 100% renewable energy and their products get a gold rating for being highly recyclable? That`s called PR.
    The newest MacBooks have the SSD soldered onto the mainboard. So, if you`re out of warranty and your SSD breaks, you can throw away the whole computer and buy a new one. If your mainboard breaks, you lose all your data that hasn`t been backed up. Once it was possible to take those proprietary SSD chips out, buy an adapter from a third party and you could get all your data back. Until 2012, they even had normal 2.5-inch Hard Drives in there. Many companies, that do video and photo editing abandon Apple, because Apple abandoned the Mac Pro line. They offer no computers, that can be upgraded anymore. Wanna do video editing with OSX, go buy an iMac Pro for 5000USD and up. They can`t be upgraded, you can`t even easily open them up and dust the fans out, as they are glued together. The company I work for, started building themselves normal PCs, which are configured with the hardware we want. After a couple of years every component can be upgraded. If something breaks, we simply replace the defective component. We use Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere etc.). They are the same for OSX and Windows 10. So, no need for any employee to spend time relearning everything. We saved a lot of money by doing so.

    Video is pretty ridiculous to be honest. Your points only really cover social posturing/PR/marketing achievements. Though "environmentalism" and "charitable" contributions doesn't really cover the functions of a business nor the innovations a company like apple depends on to advance in a technology landscape which apple always had uphill battle.
    Apple has made an aggressive stance on maximizing profits. But the whole boat is now on sailing on air, its product line has ballooned, they have expanded with ridiculous "super-luxurious" variants. They have pivoted from a technology company to a "designer"/"fashion" brand.
    Look at the whole train wreck that is the iPhone XR/XS(excess), go from 7 to X and now has passed into XR and XS. All worth 3 times the value of their nearest competitor. Then you have to also look at its whole Chinese production situation where people were committing suicide because of Apples production quotas. You also have to examine the apparent loss in production quality that has occurred, phones bending, batteries exploding, etc. The privacy position is another marketing/PR move to differentiate itself from other big tech firms. Arguing that the elevated cost is due to their position on privacy and their position on the environment, while in reality they created a situation where they sell you less-than-pristine materials and call it environmentalism.
    Steve Jobs made a company that "Thinks Different", a company that challenges what is standard and made bold attempts to innovate through a delicate collaboration of software and technologies.
    Tim Cook is keeping a company that "Thinks Social", a brand that builds upon its foundations while not leaping forward only adding more flash than substance, in order to justify rising prices and a diminishing market.
    In 2018, Apple will stop declaring iPhone sales numbers, instead just posting earnings. That tells you right there they plan on making their money on leeching money from consumers in perpetuity.
    Don't believe me? Well then just go back to listening to your Apple Music subscription, or look at your photos with iCloud, or maybe get ready for your upcoming iTunes Live streaming service, and don't forget to protect your products with AppleCare...

When they made the Mac mini impossible to upgrade and skipped the 32GB on their first iPhone 6/6 plus phones instead offered the inadequate 16GB to begin the era of ripping of their costumers for more profit! I just got an iPhone Xr, and am very happy with it. I really was worried about the face id thing and for a while was considering 8plus because of that, but i am amazed at how lightening fast the face id is. In fact it's almost too fast. Sometimes it feels like i just pick up the phone and it's already unlocked. I guess i do come from a much older model with just a passcode, so this is a very pleasant break. In general this thing rips. It is so fast and smooth. I spent hours at stores test driving the various flagship phones, both apple and samsung (didn't want to veer too far off the well trodden path since i keep my phones for a very long time) and i have to say though all had some redeeming qualities, iPhone just seemed easier and more intuitive to use. Have to say i hated the oled screens, they just did not feel comfortable on my eyes. Another thing i'm finding - if you get the right brightness set up, this phone has just a superb screen. I like it even more in daily use than i did in the store. Not even the slightest issue with the display in everyday use. Of course i really don't watch movies on phones and don't understand why anyone would want to watch a movie on such a small screen if there is a laptop and tv. But that being said, the videos i have watched i have no issues with at all. Very very glad i made this choice. One of the things i heavily use my phone for is navigation, and for this it is a thrill. Speaker nice and loud.. i do not need to feed through car speakers at all if i don't want to bother, screen is just big enough, another reason i was thinking of the 8plus - the shape and size of the screen seemed better suited for navigation, however in real life the screen on the Xr is just fine. Quickly changed the wallpaper to a pleasant personal photo and all around this was the perfect choice. I am glad i took my time to make this decision and mulled it over for a long time, as early on i was leaning way more to the 8 plus, which incidentally is not that much cheaper, and in the end was not necessary and i probably would have regretted always knowing i had missed out on the latest power and camera.

    I aknowledge Jobs's influence on the tech world and at apple, but I feel Cook is highly underappreciated.
    (I AM NOT COMPARING THEM.)
    Cook turned the company into what it is today, listening to him in interviews gives you a great insight at who he really is (his philosophy, his view on privacy, health, the environement and much more ).
    As for the price of products, I dont live in America, apple products have ALWAYS been expensive (I got the iPod 80gb for around 600$ in 2006). So price-wise, things never really changed with either Jobs or Cook.
    Apple is distinctively more premium now, and some people even consider it as a status symbol to own an Apple instead of an Android, Macbook instead of Windows... and I believe this is change driven by Cook that wouldnt have been otherwise.
    and people are obviously enjoying it more as the revenues dont lie.

    If you've ever seen Simon Sinek's "Start with Why" videos or TED Talks, he used Apple as a perfect example of why people bought Apple products. "People don't buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it". Apple's WHY was "challenge the status quo". Remember the slogan "Think Different" ? Apple was truly innovative and would often attempt to do things differently because they had a vision of changing the way things were done. When Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, the company focused on MONEY instead of innovation, and almost went bankrupt because they thought that having tons of mediocre products would increase profits. Steve came back some years later and rescued it. With Steve's death, Apple has AGAIN focused on MONEY instead of innovation. Sadly, this time Steve can't come back to rescue Apple. I just hope either Tim or someone else has the _courage_ to bring Apple back to it's original WHY.

    Since his return in Apple Jobs helped in creating such a strong brand that even after his death and the lack of innovative products, the brand still keeps selling because of how huge it is. Jobs built a powerful marketing and brand name that would last at least a decade after his death. Plus, the company's stock value skyrocketed meaning that the company would last longer even with mediocre sales. The comparisson with Apple's state after Jobs was force-kicked back in mid-80s is not a good comparisson at all. Back then Apple wasn't the respected and high valued brand that is today, nor did they have such wealth from sales. Also, back then they had a large line-up of products that confused the customers. Isn't it the same nowadays? Revision after revision, release after release with up to 1,5 year gap, it's insane. Just think how many iPhone models exist now....

    The increasing prices have made me considering ditching Apple altogether. I’m currently in the market for a new laptop and I have seriously considered alternatives because of Apple’s prices.

    Thank you. That was very well researched. I learned some things I didn’t know about Apple’s charity policy. Interesting that the first rule of making money and building wealth is to develop Generosity of Spirit. It changes the brain, is karmically sound, develops compassion (the highest spiritual attainment), and always leads to good results. Generosity is what sustains human community.
    ... Though, like you, I am a bit concerned about the escalating prices of Apple products, especially as Apple is now the world’s first trillion dollar company. But perhaps they’re trying to deliberately slow down the demand for Apple products, as the huge demand for iPhones got them into a lot of trouble when the Chinese manufacturing plants were mistreating their employees, to keep up with Apple’s demands. But then, slowing the pace a little doesn’t actually democratise creativity, which was Steve Job’s initial aim.

  • @EricAcevedo
    @EricAcevedo 5 років тому +30

    The quality of Apple products have diminished since Steve’s passing. New Macs break down much faster than they used to. Old Macs used to never die. They just got slow. Speaking of slow, iOS 11 and 12 have been just awful on the iPhone. Siri is a joke when it comes to voice dictation. Steve would have never allowed these things to be this way. :(

    Apple is lacking behind with Tim Cook. With Steve Jobs it was years ahead of the competition.

  • @amosbatto3051
    @amosbatto3051 5 років тому +1

    The big difference is that Tim Cook is a standard CEO making safe decisions, whereas Steve Jobs was a technology visionary who imagined new ways of using the technology. As for the environment, Cook has arguably harmed the environment by purposely designing its products so it is harder for 3rd parties to repair and maintain them and by cracking down on the importation of Apple parts and the publishing of technical information about the products. 80% of the total energy and greenhouse gas emissions in PCs and smartphones lie in their initial fabrication and very little of the resources which go into the fabrication of electronics can be recaptured through recycling, so Apple's promotion of planned obsolescence harms the environment, even if their products are more recyclable.

    Maybe make a video about the suicides and other issues in factories that manufacture Apple products and also about the issues of using blood-minerals like cobalt in the Apple products and what Apple plans to do with these issues, if anything? I would love to watch that one! :) Tim Cook seems to have awesome values, maybe he has a plan for these issues eventually as well.

M1 Macbook Air from $999 and that too with such a great performance, and with student discount even $100 cheaper! And omg the m1 macbook pro (2020) from $1299.
