    Nowadays you can get a USB-C plug with 12v power delivery that terminates in the DC barrel plug these power supplies use. Pretty nice option, especially with modern backup batteries and PD USB-C adapters that can feed more than one cable.

      @@lucacamerada4722 I believe this should work but you should message Rexus to confirm. The external PSU handles converting AC power from the wall to the DC power the ReSaturn takes as an input, so as long as you have an external PSU that is designed for the UK power grid you should be fine.

    The AC connector on the original was damaged.....so ditch the entire power supply? That makes no sense, especially when the rest of the power supply looked to be in perfect working order. Did it not work? Why not just source a replacement for the AC connector piece?

    • @secret_switch
      @secret_switch  4 роки тому +2

      I actually looked into this at one point, the company that makes the AC input jack on the OEM PSU still exists and still makes parts like this but the specific model that was on the Saturn's PSU wasn't listed in their catalogs. Not to mention something on the OEM PSU or the OEM power cable caused the AC input jack to melt so I wasn't particularly keen on replacing it only to have it melt again or burn down my house while playing Daytona USA.

    Secret Switch if you're reading this you need to take a look at this PSU again, twitter.com/MrMario2011/status/1248272616496017413 the Dreamcast version was dissected on Twitter and there's some serious concerns about its quality, especially ripple and its complete dependency on the external brick as to whether it works well or not.

    • @secret_switch
      @secret_switch  4 роки тому +2

      I believe they are talking about the DreamPSU which would be the PSU designed by RetroPSU that I briefly mentioned in the video. The ReDream PSU and ReSaturn PSU are not based on these designs according to Rexus but I don't know enough about electronics to analyze them as thoroughly as someone like Voultar.

    • @ichrismoku
      @ichrismoku 4 роки тому +1

      @@secret_switch yeah I'm just concerned that they me all be based on basically the same generic PCB, the sellers are vague no one seems to really know for sure

    • @secret_switch
      @secret_switch  4 роки тому +3

      @@ichrismoku I tweeted at Voultar to see his thoughts on Rexus' PSUs, but based on appearance alone they appear to be quite different designs than the PSUs from RetroPSU. I don't see the TPS54525 chip mentioned by Voultar that is seen on the DreamPSU on the ReDream PSU or the ReSaturn PSU.
      TPS54525 step down converter pictured on TI's website: www.ti.com/product/TPS54525
      DreamPSU pictured in an article discussing the design concerns: www.retrorgb.com/dreamcast-replacement-psu-design-analysed.html
      ReDream PSU pictured on Rexus' website: rexus2019.wordpress.com/redream-psu-a-12v-power-supply-for-the-sega-dreamcast/
      If you're concerned about the ReSaturn being dangerous you should message Rexus on eBay and ask for clarification, he was really helpful to me with my questions about the designs. I personally don't have any concerns with the ReSaturn based on the testing that I did, the external AC adapter and the ReSaturn were both putting out the voltages they should have been but I am by no means an expert.

    • @ToothpickMan11
      @ToothpickMan11 3 роки тому +1

      I know this comment was made a year ago, but in his Tweet Voultar isn't saying the DreamPSU is harmful. He was just saying that it's a generic design and wasn't tailored specifically for the consoles needs. I have a Chinese SaturnPSU clone in my Model 2, no complaints outside of some diagonal line interference that I suspect is from the power brick itself, same issue occurs with the pico in my Dreamcast is why I think it's the brick. I picked up a Model 1 and went with a ReSaturn PSU this time because the designer claims it is tailored for the Saturn's needs specifically. Both will serve your needs, one is cheaper and the other offers slightly higher quality for a bit more.

    Did you find any heating issues on your resaturn? Just got one and installed it. Same model Saturn as in your vid and got the same power adapter. Once installed, the console only comes on half the time and when it does, the PSU very quickly smells like burning.

    • @secret_switch
      @secret_switch  3 роки тому +1

      I did not have any heating issues with my ReSaturn, even after playing on the console for a few hours. I would verify your AC adapter is working properly and then probably contact Rexus for support. The biggest downside of units like the ReSaturn is their reliance on 3rd party AC adapters as the quality on these can be pretty hit or miss and almost all of them are made in China.

    • @secret_switch
      @secret_switch  3 роки тому

      Assuming you have everything connected properly and the power switch has been toggled on, make sure the ground probe from your multimeter is connected to one of the ground pins on the ReSaturn and you should be able to get power readings from the unit. If that's not working you might want to reach out Rexus for support.

      I'm not sure how difficult it is to track down an OEM N64 PSU considering how easy they are to attach and detach from the console. I have heard of people refurbishing OEM units by replacing the old capacitors, something like that might be your best option.

      Hello, at first glance I was thinking the same thing as it's just basic soldering that would have been required to fix that melted Outlet.
      I have a completely recapped power source and anything else in the Saturn that needed recapping as well as FRAM mod and everything else you could do to a Saturn including MODE and having a custom PCB made for optical digital output directly from the sound chip from the tech I bought it from.
      My question is everything runs perfectly however I wonder if I should buy one of these new type power supplies to have as a backup.
      If I did so, would it be better to run the newer modern power supply and keep my new recapped original power supply stored away for safekeeping for another day... since it's a better power source Than This Modern one?
      I ask because it sounds like you know much more than I do about Electronics and I always take any and all advice when it comes to preserving my Retro Game Collection especially my Saturn! :)
