Thank you for making these films, they are very interesting. I am English and in 1957 I was 4yrs old and lived Lagos at Probyn Road Ikoyi. My father was an Architect who designed housing in Lagos pre-independence.He knew these areas for his work and I remember him talking about visiting Badagry where there was housing being planned . some of the buildings you passed by in these films may be the ones he designed going back to the 1950's era. We used to go to Victoria Beach, which back in those days, if I remember right was across the Lagoon. We also went to Tarkwa Beach, which again if I remember right was accessed across the Tarkwa bridge. In Lagos we used to shop at Kingsway Stores. Although I was only very young your films remind me of the landscape and street scenes. The historical context details you describe and show in the film was also very interesting.
thanks a lot to share your experience of Lagos with us ! you have a great memory ! just one thing may be wrong, there is no bridge to tarkwa ad you have to take a boat to the island. thanks a lot for watching and for taking time to share this interesting feedback !
@@Ludo_Liu The bridge must have been on another route, it was rickitty and shakey though so it probably was replaced or scrapped many years ago, was there a "Carter Bridge" that might have been the name. Someone my father knew said he used to shoot at crocodiles underneath it. As I was very young I cannot remember much detail about Lagos but when I see the videos of the street scenes and also the wide sandy edged roads roads with the tall palm trees gently waving in the hot breeze then that does trigger my memory of the place.
@Lahwal Karhim I lived in Alexander avenue ikoyi in the 70s with the lagoon behind our house butci can't find it on Google map can you tell me what has happened there?
As I watch this video, and can’t help but wonder how different things would have been, without Slavery. Thank you Ludo Liu for this trip through History of Badagry. Very enlightening to see the Museum, historical places. It just make you think, how many of our Ancestors, probably traveled this path, eventually ending up in America. How scared they must have been. Looking into the faces of some of the Nigerian people, as you pass by them, I can see a Aunt, a Sister, Cousin, Grandparent in their faces, wondering, could I have shared DNA, with any of them... probably. 🙂
Ohhh my sister I visited Nigeria twice and I felt at home, it was a sweet spirit rested in my soul! As far as looking and seeing familiar faces all the time as a matter of fact my sister in laws looked more like my immediate family. When I to the market noone knew I wasn't born Nigerian until I open my mouth to speak.
Hi there Ludo Liu 2, so nice to hear about our Wonderful Nigeria. I'm Brazilian and now learning from you about the slavery time that Brazilians were involved with. So sorry for that. Most of the People trade from Nigeria most of them were Yourubas and were established here in Brazil mostly in Bahia state and fortunately they have brought lots of culture from you guys from food to music and Religions. I love to talk to them whenever I have chance to go up there in the North place of Brazil. I think they are now fourth to fifth generation if I'm not wrong. Most of them doesn't carry traces from their origin. But they have so much influence over our Culture. Specially the " Feijoada " a national dish in Brazil, thanks to the influence of the Nigerians slaves by the time. In majority of the places here in Brazil you can find it in almost every Restaurant, every wednesday and saturdays you can find this special delicious which is made by black beans and pork meat like tail, ears, pork's knee etc. They were the meat that their " masters " by then didn't want after killing a pork and served the best parts of the it. With these leftovers meat, from the rich table of the farmers which they used to throw away,, the slaves, by using their wonderful creativity had created this super popular dish in Brazil. I love it when i get chance to eat it. But I want to thank you very much for sharing this great video and especially this wonderful class you taught us all. Man your videos I really enjoy and recommend. Thanks again for sharing such a great part of your Country's history. PRAISE THE LORD!

This was an extremely well done video. The maps were a very nice touch. I also liked the geographical context provided by the drone shots. Thanks for the excellent tour.
Great and instructive video, I enjoyed your wonderful work again. I guess I am a fan now. But the history of slavery made me cry. However, to be aware about is important to me. I hope l will be able to visit Nigiria one day. I want to see Lagos, Ikeja, Abuja and Badagry too. Your videos are the best I have ever seen, high quality and full of love for your beautiful country. Thanks.
Relaxing, easy going ride through the open air market places which seemed to be less congested than other places you've taken me. Although the roads appeared to be narrower at some points, there was more organization of the vendors, less litter and better flow of traffic. The colors of the clothes worn by the citizens were vibrant and deep, especially the various shades of blue which is my favorite color. The brief stop at the heritage museum was interesting, informative and added to the continuity of our journey. The drive through the local communities reminds me of American suburbs with their peaceful, quiet atmosphere. Question: What was behind the Constantine wire fences/walls? Ludo, thank you for another calming, soothing ride that gives me moments of peace in a world of uneasiness.
thanks a lot for your comment brother. i feel so glad and happy these videos can bring such whiling from audience to speak and debate about our country . thanks for your very detailed feedback . I am not sure about what was behind the Constantine wire fences/walls... can you paste time stamps ? cheers, and thanks once more !

Nice video and cultural display. Please, I suggest you add a voice comment or soft background music to make it more lively. You could also have an interview with the locals or Oba, to bring out the authenticity of the cultural pride. Overall, it was a cool work.
i would rather keep the original sound that a mellow music that doesn t have a link with the view. About the voice over, i thought about it, but i am afraid it will change the atmosphere of the immersion if i was to speak during all the video. However, thanks a lot for your warm comment and your advices !!!
Glad you enjoyed it this is at least what i tried to do, remember historical facts that are so important to transmit ! hope the nice drive can allow people to dive into this history and never forget what happened there

Simply Marvelous Video. Great Ride to a Historical City. I am sure you had a nice time. This deserve and award. And am sure you enjoyed the serenity of Badagry. It is the place to be. I noticed you didn't know you passed by the First Story Building in Nigeria and also the Agia Tree where Christianity was first preached in Nigeria. I am so glad you made the trip. Thumbs up Man.
thanks so much for your comment ! to tell the truth most of the part i know are from some research i made after the ride. did you see the first storey building and the monument where Agia tree is on the video ? I am a bit confused, that s true that i did not speak of them in the video, cause i did not think i shot them, i checked the map etc... however if yes, time stamps would be great to let me know where they are exactly thanks a lot
@@Ludo_Liu Yes, you did shot them. These are the timelines 1. The Building on the right at 21:14 is the Badagry Central Mosque 2. The White Monument on the right at 21:21 is the Agia Tree Memorial, where Christianity (sermon) was first preached by Thomas Birch Freeman & Henry Townsend in 1842 3. The yellow Building on the right by 21:28 is the Badagry Town Hall 4. The open gate on the right, at 23:13 leads into the First Storey Building in Nigeria. (A tree actually blocked the view of the building)
in addition 5. Building on the left at 17.17 is Methodist Church Badagry 6. Building on the left at 22:26 is Cathedral Church of St. Thomas (aka Anglican Church) You did a wonderful job bringing back all those memories to me. Good job man!

10:26 tourism and hospitality...now im curious..can foreigners own land in nigeria? how much does a small hotel with less than 50 rooms cost to buy in nigeria? ive been study the hotel business lately as i'm frequently stuck in hotels :D
on the coast i think you have a lot of potential to build something for a very low budget compare to many countries. The only thing that may be difficult would be the administrativee part, and maybe the longevity of the business according to some eventual political instability.
thanks a lot for watching this video ! you should take a look at the video inside the belly of the city, or the survival ride. you'll see even more "madness", the road here was really quiet in fact
Thanks again and again, because by this job you've shown us many aspect I didn't know concerning This beautiful and historical city named badagry. Unfortunately our incompetent leaders aren't know that Badagry is our unknown Goore (Sénégal) or Cape Coast (Ghana). GOD BLESS NIGERIA
Some superb displays of the art of balancing enormous baskets full of stuff on your heads here. 13:29 now how on earth does she get all that to stay in place?
Gbadagli not Badagry as known today. It was formed and name by the Ewes.It was and still part of the Western alien destroyed ancient Ewe Nation which extends through Dahomey(Benin Republic),Torgp(Togo) and Volta Region of Ghana. Voodoo practice,Mawulisa(supreme God),Hervioso(god of thunder),agbadza dance,Agbedefu township are all name in Ewe. It was the main center of commerce before the setting foot of the Whiteman and the Ligua franca by then was Evergbe understood by all. The Ewes Fon/Adza/Mina fought and defeated the Oyos there and named it Gbadagli kope.
Yeah we almost ate sand at 18:50! by the way, while we're stopped can we see what's rattling on the bike? It's driving me nuts! No time? that's alright, lets ride! Oh by the way, I love the history lessons too.

Great and instructive video, I enjoyed your wonderful work again. I guess I am a fan now. But the history of slavery made me cry. However, to be aware about is important to me. So many fabulous West African outfits in the market today!
My favourite of the day: 4:33
that was was indeed very colourful !

Very nice video tour. I didn't see one person wearing a mask. You have no pandemic in Nigeria? I am envious. Great job.
few people are wearing it. covid is here, as in almost every places on earth

Thank you. I just re-watched the video

I am a bit confused, that s true that i did not speak of them in the video, cause i did not think i shot them, i checked the map etc...
however if yes, time stamps would be great to let me know where they are exactly
thanks a lot
@@Ludo_Liu Yes, you did shot them. These are the timelines
1. The Building on the right at 21:14 is the Badagry Central Mosque
2. The White Monument on the right at 21:21 is the Agia Tree Memorial, where Christianity (sermon) was first preached by Thomas Birch Freeman & Henry Townsend in 1842
3. The yellow Building on the right by 21:28 is the Badagry Town Hall
4. The open gate on the right, at 23:13 leads into the First Storey Building in Nigeria. (A tree actually blocked the view of the building)
in addition
5. Building on the left at 17.17 is Methodist Church Badagry
6. Building on the left at 22:26 is Cathedral Church of St. Thomas (aka Anglican Church)

Another thing that I think is particularly good about your videos is that all the sound is the natural original soundtrack background with no dubbed on music that ruins so many other videos on youtube

10:26 tourism and hospitality...now im curious..can foreigners own land in nigeria? how much does a small hotel with less than 50 rooms cost to buy in nigeria? ive been study the hotel business lately as i'm frequently stuck in hotels :D
that s a difficult question, it mainly depends of the location. But for sure Nigeria is a good place to invest...
on the coast i think you have a lot of potential to build something for a very low budget compare to many countries. The only thing that may be difficult would be the administrativee part, and maybe the longevity of the business according to some eventual political instability.
My connection is so bad today that the 4K images move slowly. Nice video though.
