I noticed Not Brand Echh on the rack at the beginning. Nobody mentions poor old Irving Forbush anymore. I demand Forbush Man make an appearance in the MCU, lol.
Yes, yes, YES!!! I missed all of these on the rack, being only 3 years old. But when I discovered the FF in the 70's, all of their issues showed up in my radar. Thor took a little longer, but it was love of Jack that drew me to the book. Thanks Fred.
I've been looking forward to this one. I didn't miss the origin story and also wondered why the change in the "method of the madness" that created Capt.America. lol. Thanks for all your hard work.
Fantastic video, really cool work! The notations are well written, I wish I could add remarks half as well as this, honestly. Thanks for the fun tunes with the awesomeness of The King!
Wonderful video KC - thanks for your efforts on it. When correlated, it would appear that Jack knew the time was coming when he was going to have to give up drawing these titles, as both Cap and Thor are retroconning their originals. Embellishing both story arcs with updated and incredible Kirby-goodness. I especially love the choices of songs. The moment "fire" erupts synchronized to your display of the panels sending Thor down to earth. Nice touch!
That Cap cover is a powerful nearly 3-D image. Kirby's cover action stills were in a class by themselves. WOW, I hadn't even paid much attention to the potion vs. the vita-rays, and I HAVE BOTH those issues. I'm sure I purchased them so far apart that I never gave that detail a second thought. I didn't see the Cap #1 origin until Marvel reprinted it somewhere a few years ago. The thing I liked most about the THOR retcon was that it explained why he could never have married Jane Foster. I'd always thought that was a clever bit of tweaking. Great post!
I remember reading Caps origin story in that second iteration where he drinks the chemical vial, but it might have been a reprint. At my local library I found a oversized hardcover book which collected the origins of several superheroes, so I got to see the Kirby original story as well. It also had the original Green Lantern and Batman as well. I wonder if it's still in print? Those single page illustrations are seriously dynamic and I remember catching that F.F. issue with that crazy, unwieldy, Maximus head piece. Sometimes a single large Kirby drawing spoke a thousand words of Stan Lee. That battle sequence with the Thing was primo. Still waiting for you to finish that Time Machine you promised, Fred.
Still working on it, Tony. I need some more plywood and a dry cell battery. Kirby sort of hurt himself when he drew elaborate headgear because he then had to KEEP drawing it...for the same pay rate. But kings go forth...
Wonderful day, Kirby day that is.

You're welcome, Timothy.

It’s great that Kirby has done 3 versions of Captain America’s origin, my favorite is the 3rd in #109, the Kirby crackle is awesome in this issue

Much appreciated, Jay.
Steve Roger's mother's name isn't Martha, by any chance?
