The Alien vs Predator history and the games starts off pretty simple and then goes all over the places with incredible highs such as the Aracde release by Capcom and 1999 released by Rebellion. But it also ha some rather damning lows such as the endless amounts of mobile games (that took me ages to find btw and delayed this video as a result)
O well, this is Aliens Vs Predator: The History and The Games!

I never saw the Predators as evil at all. Sure, they began as the antagonist in the movies, but in the comics and expanded universe, and even in the second movie, there's more of an honorable hunter than evil. They're warriors who hunt species to prove/test themselves. So, in the first AvP movie, the team up was actually pretty fitting. Not a great movie or anything, but the idea was solid.

That AvP for the Atari Jaguar was amazing. Playing as the Colonial Marine was terrifying. Playing as the Predator feels like a total badass and playing as the Aliens would give you that hive mentality once you got the 1st few face hugs out of the way.
It really was like 3 different games.

AvP 2010 multiplayer was pretty fun when it was active, sad that you didn't talk about it but understandable since the game died up.
My favorite modes were the 3 way TDM with Predators, Aliens and Marines going at each other, the "predator mode" where one player played as predator and the others as marines, with the one who kills the predator becoming the predator the next round (far better than the last Predator game btw) and the Aliens mode similar as the Predator one but when the alien kills a Marine the player becomes an Alien and has to hunt his former mates.

Man, I have so many good memories playing AvP on the Jaguar. Playing it in a dark room just added to the creepiness of the experience. I remember many gaming mags complaining about the lack of background music, (and it probably was left off due to the limitations of the Jaguar,) but I think it actually added to the suspense and made it a more immersive experience. It is the first game I can remember playing where I was genuinely afraid to see what was next. I still have my Jaguar and AvP in storage, I I often think about taking it out for another play, but I never do. I'm sure it won't be as good as I remember and I'd hate to tarnish those memories.

  • @TheDeath138

Extinction was actually quite fun. Especially playing as the Xenomorphs. It's also not as easy as you seem to think. The first few levels of each race is pretty easy, but those are basically tutorial levels. Once you get past those it actually becomes an acceptable challenge. I think the biggest issue with it is that using a controller for RTS games just isn't as intuitive or as functional as RTS games require. But even with that caveat, it's a great game and I would like to see a remake make it's way to PCs.

Man, I remember loving Aliens vs Predator for the pc, but then getting hopelessly stuck for a long time playing the Alien campaign because at one point, you're a facehugger trying to take down a predator, and he could literally one shot you to death while you had to get in many hits to kill him, meaning the stealth you generally had as an advantage crawling through vents and attacking from a good angle, was gone the moment you did attack!
It took me hours upon hours of replaying that one mission, breezing through the first half at some point only to get into a circle strafing battle with the predator where if I was fast enough, he couldn't kill me.

@@propheinx2250 There's a problem with. More on that in a moment. I'd like to have seen more missions. 15 for each campaign, minimum. Of course the game took up 2,000 KB of memory as is so imagine how much would be consumed when it's nearly twice as large. My problem with skirmish is the hunter predator. A basic general purpose predator that's unambitious in it's basic form and in small numbers. But look at this. 10 x 60 = 600. That's how damage you with 10 hunters in quick succession. It gets worse when you purchase more hunters and upgrade. The developers fell asleep at the wheel with that one.

    • @propheinx2250
      @propheinx2250 3 роки тому

@@exoticcreature3059 if they were to make a follow up they could give the predators a population cap of 3 (I seem to remember they only hunt in groups up to 3, could've seen it in a movie or other game) and hiring extras would be expensive. They'd rely upon upgrading their usable arsenal until you've got 3 super soldiers armed to the teeth. Aliens would keep the same motif of unruly numbers but mostly all melee attackers. They could boost the alien population cap a bit and include more xenomorph types. Humans would still be the in between. Less numbers than aliens and less tech than predators. I'd say the campaign could be mostly as short as extinction as long as it has an online and offline skirmish mode with plenty of varying maps and/or a random map generator, although I would like it to be longer than extinction's campaigns. I'd like for each of the 3 campaigns to be as long as the entirety of extinction. The humans resource gathering would need to be changed, it's bullshit that humans run out of money gathering spots to use but aliens and predators don't have a money cap. Aliens and predators would keep their resource gathering techniques, they work just fine. I'd love a LotR Battle for Middle Earth style conquest mode, but I can't really think of a good way to make that work for AVP. It's safe to say I've put a lot of thought into what a proper sequel to Alien vs Predator Extinction should be.

@@propheinx2250 Maybe but somehow the idea of one species being a total powerhouse compared to it's competition rubs me the wrong way. On one hand the powerhouse characters are vastly outnumbered in order to more or less limit the devastation you can bring. On the other hand they're so powerful that you have to outnumber them greatly for any chance of defeating them. It wouldn't appear as a level playing field in my eyes, even if it is. You're on point with one thing though. The Marines earned currency much slower and seemingly less than the other two class of characters. You'd think that because Marines are weaker than the other two (and slower) they would earn a fair amount of currency for killing enemies. But no, no, no. I also wasn't a fan of having to wait some 30 seconds for ordered Marines to arrive AND waiting for the dropship to leave after the fact before I could order more. Could I order more than 6 at a time then maybe the wait would be worth it. But no, no, no.

I remember the AVP 2010 game having a long lifetime with dedicated fan base and clans still playing. I remember when i played its multiplayer i felt the most edge of my seat multiplayer gameplay ive ever felt, not sure what it was, probably the skill of the hand to hand combat and the strategic knowing of when to do exicutions since you could get killed while your ripping skulls out.
I loved gears and halo and call of duty, but for some reason AVP 2010's multiplayer just felt the most intense. And if im turning off those blockbusters for being too boring and putting AVP back in, then it dosent matter what anyone says about the game, thats something special that only the lovers of the game gave the chance to find, and found! Too bad they didnt get to make a sequel to that one.

The original predator was design by Richard Edmund, it was bug inspired. From filming to visual stand point there were needs for a change. Then Stan Winston was hired later to, came up with what we know now.

And AvP 2010 was an underrated game. It's not perfect but it's still fun & genuinely scary at times. Of course, Capcom's arcade masterpiece is still the best.

Simple and complex. All the characters with their different abilities and all the different objectives. Not about weapon balance but rather character balance. A game where you consider employing some characters you don't like very much but can't argue against what they offer, like the Runner. Plus it's one game in which I totally commend the inclusion of over-the-top alien designs that would never fly in movies. Ravager. Unfortunately the developers fell asleep at the wheel when they created the Hunter predator. It's just a general purpose predator, right? Moderate speed, moderate health, moderate damage, defeats enemy armor, good attack range, and can attack while retreating. That part is pretty cheap. Not going to lie. The upgrade is awesome but doesn't make the Hunter the ultimate character in the game. So what went wrong? The Hunters immediately control the battlefield when you utilize only Hunters, apart from the Shrine. They're so powerful in numbers that you can walk through each mission whether or not you upgrade them. 10x60=600. That's how much damage you'll deal with 10 hunters and that damage will be dealt in quick succession with just a basic hunter. It gets worse when you employ more hunters and upgrade them. The developers fell asleep at the wheel with that one.

Sorry, but Jane Whittaker's a con artist. Yes, he worked on Alien vs. Predator for Atari Jaguar, though Jane didn't have that kind of pull, nor did he work with H.R. Giger. Jane didn't work on Dark Seed either. Around the time I was to interview him for my channel, I was digging into games Jane claimed to have worked on, and Dark Seed was one of 'em. After trying the Saturn release, Jane's name was not present - not as Andrew or Jane Whittaker. Odd, considering Jane claimed to be the model for Dark Seed's protagonist, as well as such good friends with Giger. When I asked Jane about his name's absence, his response was that he was only credited in the original Amiga version. First, it was an MS-DOS release first. The Amiga port would follow later that year. Second, Andrew/Jane is not credited in ANY release of Dark Seed. Not one. Third, Jane is not the model in Dark Seed; it's Mike Dawson - one of the actual designers of the game.
Jane *did* work on Alien vs. Predator, though he's been inflating his work more and more each year for Alien vs. Predator is his one LEGITIMATE claim to fame.

I wish we had games like this now where you just buy a system for a few hundred maybe 150 after it's been out for a year or two and can just buy a bunch of games and play them . Now you need a million dollars , internet, streaming service to get games that can be taken away. it's all just to much now and way to expensive. So I just watch videos about games on UA-cam. I must of watched a million resident evil videos on UA-cam but never actually played the game, same with the aliens and predator games.

Snopes, why couldn't you watch the Alien and Predator films as kids (by law). Is it different in the UK than it is here in the States? For example, it's perfectly legal (and stupid) to take a group of 5 year old's to see the next Hostel film. My parents of course wouldn't let me watch the Alien and Predator movies when I was a kid...but that never stopped me. By the time I was...I want to say 10 I watched the first two Alien films and definitely the first Predator. I was in my early teens before I saw the second Predator movie.
At any rate, this is the best video you have ever done my friend and you're already my top content creator. This is truly a labor of love from a franchise that I hold near and dear to me heart. Just like the games drove the series forward they too captivated me. I can remember the first time I saw AVP for the Atari Jaguar...it damn near brought me to tears. No other gane from that time looked and played like that.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, it is different in the UK. Our higher age ratings are 12A (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult), 15, and 18. The 15 and 18 work like the MPA's NC-17, with no Children under those ages are allowed in the cinema by law.

Kudos for the Genesis Alien 3 theme song at the very beginning! ^^ And actually, my guilty pleasure isn't the first AvP movie, but the second one! Yes, it's a terrible B-movie and has the story of a generic horror movie, but it's a gory mess that I can enjoy even more than the first movie. It does aim too much for shock value and too little for quality, I can certainly see that. But that's why it's called a guilty pleasure :P
On the videogames front, my favorite was definitely AvP2 from Monolith, followed closely by the Capcom beat'em up. The 1999 game comes third, although I still haven't played the latest AvP shooter but already got it on a Steam sale, so who knows! I also did play the SNES game, and I don't remember hating it, but it certainly didn't leave a huge mark on me ^^

Honestly the concept isnt even that bad if you know the lore of the predators, Humans can be seen as respected warriors even as far back as the 2nd film where the predator elders let Glover go because he defeated one of their own in fair combat.
