I bought my first surfboard from Will and Fred in Narragansett, It was the best day of my life. Both Will and Fred were great guys. There is so much of this video that I lived. Great video.
Amazing video... thank you! This caught me up on so much and all the amazing people who paved the way in New England Surfing. Very odd to not know any of the people in this video because I started in 1964 but wasn't in the contest scene until 67' when I surfed contests all over New England and knew all the players. Of course I knew the Hobie Shop in Gansett and Cape Cod but just as a grom, first learning the ropes. Started in summer of 65 when I bought a beat up old Newporter Pop-out from Larry and Scoot Mckinney at Surf City Rental stand in Orleans, Cape Cod I bought my first new board from the Hobie Shop in Orleans Ma summer of 66' They threw my Newporter out the back door and I went out the front with an awesome yellow and blue Hobie Noserider! My era was a bit later when some of the folks in this video had come into their own like Randy Radke and Bill Spicer and the Will Jacobs Team was full speed ahead. I was on the team at Jasper's Surf Shop a Dewey Weber Shop during the Short-Board Revolution... very exciting times!! Summers were spent traveling the ESA Contest circuit all over New England and meeting lifelong friends from every state. In fact I spent last night with Dave Levy and some of the Narragansett crew at a paddle-out for my buddy and life long ripper Jay Todd. The amazing thing is, not much has changed in my life... at 73, I signed a multi year contract as a Pro Surfer for Sunova Surfboards.... riding and promoting the SUP line. I travel the world, surfing, living, learning and grateful for every day! I now get paid to surf.... hey Ma, I told you!!!! 🤣 If you want to look into the surf life of a 74 year old Grom... click my name and look around my UA-cam channel..... surfing is as alive as ever! Surfing truly is the gift of Life. Thank you to all the incredible people that have made this possible with your Shops, your contests, videos and promotions... and fighting to keep our beaches open!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
