These calculations go Waayyyy faster without narration, explanations, and video recording. Hoping ya’ll can follow the basics, while I was thinking on the fly. I consider myself a uni-tasker, multi-tasking would require more brain power. I was pushing the envelope closer to the end. Enjoy!!!
Basically it's the same as an ETA like any Trucking delivery except you're just adding time pretty much for Unloads and breaks etc ?.. is that a good way to think of it?
Yes, that is correct. When I first started here, I thought it would be almost a impossible task, but over time you realize how predictable it can be. The biggest wildcard is the LIVE loading at vendors.
That would be Opelousas LA, it’s a GM DC, General Merchandise Distribution Center. Keep the questions coming or email me. Hiring should pick up over the next few months.
Here's one thing I don't quite understand why doesn't the tablet show you how much time is left on your 70 since you've been using it all week doesn't the system keep track of your logs?
Yes, the tablet does keep track of all the HOS time remaining category’s, but the worksheet is just a quick way to forecast how much time you have remaining at the end of your currently assigned tasks. You need to be able to tell the computer what you’ll have available. From the beginning of your week and all through the middle you can just go off the available hours, but when your getting close to your “Go Home” day, many drivers will trim off 1-3 hours, to ensure they don’t get dispatched on something that should theoretically work on paper but doesn’t account for the “real world” conditions that would prevent you from getting home as scheduled without running out of hours. I will probably do another version of this video at some point, it didn’t go as smoothly as I wanted. Thanks for your questions.
The trip record and ETD calculator are my own creation. I’m working on a revised version to share in a video next week. Anybody that wants the PDF file can email me and I’ll send it back. It can be the original, or the new one.
You probably have different levels of understanding from us beginners watching this video. I am scheduled for on boarding the week after the Fourth of July week. I know nothing about anything you have gone over. I have watched three videos so far. When I started watching this video, you totally lost me at ET D’s, please do not use abbreviations, unless you have at some point stated what that abbreviation stands for. I get stuck trying to figure out what ETD stands for, and then I missed part of your explanation,. I sure hope that what you are attempting to explain, as a whole lot easier to understand in real life than what you are attempting to explain on this video. And, from another video that I watched, you make it sound like you can’t stop to go to the bathroom, and that you have to always eat on the fly, or that he will have missed out on $10,000 in annual income. I consider myself a pretty hard worker, but if I always have to feel like I am a loser if I can’t stop to take a break, or take a break to eat my sandwich then there’s got to be something wrong with that… Or, do I have a total misconception of what working for Walmart is all about, as portrayed by you? I’m feeling a little overwhelmed…
RH, I apologize, others shared the fact that I forgot to say what an ETD was. We commonly deal with, and enter Estimated Time of Departures (ETD’s) into the tablet in the truck to let Walmart know when we will be ready to roll after we have completed all the work assigned. The purpose of my videos, is to share information about the job and the hiring process, so that some of this will sound familiar when your onboarding. This will allow you to ask better questions to clarify any misunderstandings. I felt it was best to get some of this content out there while I am still considered a new driver. I’ve been here about 1 yr 9 mo. A 20 year Walmart driver would probably not have the newby point of view. I’m working on a video about my diverse 26 years of trucking experience, to share as a point of reference, what a great job this is. This job is very different from regular trucking, you set the pace that works for you. The point I was making in the last video, was that some drivers waste a lot of time, at the wrong time, they like to be difficult or act like victims. Yes, there are some challenges being new on the job, but they are easily overcome. This job is super simple, yes, you have to do the work, there is no free ride. I am constantly amazed at the longevity and professionalism of my coworkers and management. Best job I ever had. Keep the questions coming, I’ll do my best to answer.
Frown upside down… you had to go there.. great love it keep it up.. thank you ..
Jeff, I’ll do my best. I’ve got plenty-o-material to work with. We’ll just keep chipping away at it. Thanks for watching.

How can I get a copy of this work sheet?
Ray, I’ll send a copy to your email. If it doesn’t print right, I can send it in a different manner.
