watching this on my xiaomi 14 ultra.
such a great device. so fun to play with!
how's the battery for you?
I have a Vivo X100 Pro now, no slouch in itself when it comes to the camera.
such bad battery life, even worse camera fogging
@@NeverSettleForMediocrity fogging of the camera occurs once and goes away forever. I have a s24 ultra right now, but I'd prefer a Xiaomi, it's a different level.
Can you describe the overall Xiaomi phone experience a bit? I'm on an s21 ultra atm and looking at the s24 ultra vs the 14 ultra. I have no doubt the camera experience on the 14b ultra is much more suited to my needs but the whole phone needs to work just as well. How's HyperOS working for you?
@@michaelberg7201As a camera, the Xiaomi may be better but really not by much contrary to what the specs say, but as a smartphone, the Samsung is too much above the Xiaomi.
I always breathe a sigh of relief when looking and listening to these video's. Unlike other UA-camrs, who struggle to say as much words in a minute as humanly possible, and often with an atrocious American accent, this man provides useful information in a polite manner and at a leisurely pace. Keep up the good work.
By the way, the variable aperture is really compelling to me, as aperture is one of the variables I always play around with when using my DSLR.
I've seen hundreds, maybe thousands of comparisons/reviews, and watching this here doesn't make me think I'm watching a review or comparison, but appreciating a work of art, so well done is the video and so detailed every aspect of the cameras... I'm speechless... congratulations is too little... but that's it... thank you!
thank you for your kind words
Hi Isaque, I saw the video and it was great. I deleted my X account as Euricovsky but I continue to follow the camera comparisons and so on. Miss your comparisons on my feed but I have to move on, bye for now.
@Multipolarist12 Thank you very much for the consideration in informing me... I will really miss you, but thank you for all the support... see you around... big hug! Be at peace!
Gotta give it to xiaomi on this one, most western companies (yes I know samsung is korean, they are the exception) are going the AI way, but there's only so much software can do, chinese brands on the other hand are going the brute force way, trying to breach the gap with dslrs with big sensors, it feels like the west is trying to be the best cellphone camera while china is trying to put a phone on a dslr, I think the second aproach is the best
I wish Samsung would ditch the 200 MP and AI gimmicks and give us a new 1-inch sensor with the S25 Ultra. It is time for them to evolve. Also, the ultrawide and 3x cameras are due for an upgrade. They have been using the same sensors since the S21 Ultra if I am not mistaken.
@@anakinskyguy6582Samsung mobile will need to persuade the other subcompany that produces the sensor (electro-mechanics?) in the first place. The two subcompanies seem to have their own direction instead of a unified goal.
"el software no puede hacer mucho" 😂😂😂el software es quién hace todo en teléfonos y sus cámaras, que si le sumas software y hardware se ve mejor que los que solo se concentran en software pues si, pero "el software no puede hacer mucho" es incorrecto.
@@anakinskyguy6582 I absolutely agree with you. Samsung has very outdated sensors for 3-zoom and ultra-wide-angle, software algorithms alone cannot get a good picture, you need good hardware as well. I would prefer Oppo, Vivo or Xiaomi instead of Western phones, although Samsung is Korean, but still. Chinese phones have very strong hardware, but the software is also very good. For example, the system animations on Chinese flagships are much better than those of Samsung.
@VNUDrawingArt I still prefer Samsung overall. I trust the software more, plus there are features like Dex that are really useful. They now have the best software support alongside Google and Apple, and they have a good ecosystem (I have the watch and the buds). I was always a Note user, so the S Pen is a must for me. Overall, I really like the S24 Ultra, but the cameras are not the best, and the speakers are not the best, especially compared to an iPhone. The UI has been evolving, but there are phones that still feel smoother and faster. I would say there's definitely better hardware out there, but to me, Samsung is the best balanced overall.
Absolutely amazing review! Subscribed! I had the S24U, now using the X14U, and no regrets, i love more better the X, not just for the camera, even the 4 rounds curved glass on the display, more comfort to hold, i like everything better on Xiaomi.
Keep it up lad, greetings from NI❤
How is the camera notch on the Xiaomi. It looks way too thick in pictures
9:37 This shot explains everything
Wow Xiaomi
samsung give green blend on the photos so if you want to see whats happen on the real make pictures on non green objects ;) you can see what proressional photographer thing about that ua-cam.com/video/vVFQyb3b8Mo/v-deo.html
Finally the best comparison of all no matter what phones are used since the narrator shows real cases of using camera. He is the 1st narrator , who explained that apperture is used in extending shutter speed.
13:20 i disagree on this point. Samsung is oversharpening everything. To my eyes, xiaomi is better due it's natural processing
It needs mentioning that Samsung has Picture Softening in it's camera settings menu, but only after downloading it's Camera Assistant add on from it's Galaxy Store. Setting Picture Softening to Medium completely transforms it's photography performance in my opinion. This feature should be on every Samsung device out of the box. It is only available for photos and not for videos, which is a pity.
Definitely for the camera and video quality Xiaomi wins but for style and show Samsung is good
The Xiaomi has a selfie portrait video. I use the Mi 10 Pro which is 4years old and it has this feature.
It's likely embedded into the filters.
sorry, 14 Ultra (global) doesn't have it
I'm using the Xiaomi 14 Pro and thank you for this comment, I was not aware of that feature until now. I saw it from the filter and it's under Bokeh. It's limited to 1080p30, but all good. I hope they can bump it up to 4k soon.
@@_deybid ah ha! They've hidden it well
@@SiHorrocks Yeah! I don't know why hide such a feature and the fact that it works well on mine. Are they not confident with it yet? I guess so, since it can only go up to 1080p30. I'll take it anyways. Haha!
The majority of people use a phone to take snapshots and selfies. In my view, basing a decision on the camera is shortsighted. Samsung ecosystem is more important to me.
i love using Director Mode using Xiaomi. 🎥
You can Drag and drop on Xiaomi just click edit 19:32
Just the comparison I was looking for. Thank you for the great video!
Nice! What a great job. But, how did you shoot slow-mo 4K with the Xiaomi? Thx!
The Xiaomi looks like a real photographer, while the Samsung is just a phone. Good job, Xiaomi!
Hi Simon Great video - thank you. Always wanted to ask you which are those beautiful mountains in the background? In the shots where you focus on the village & chapel?
The Alps, I'm afraid I don't know their names
Great review thank you. Your voice is sooooo relaxing though. You need to create some sleep UA-cam tracks. I don't know if it was a combination of the nice music in the background. But I feel asleep to your voice sitting in the sunshine. It was wonderful! Lol
Juz subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work
Really detailed review as always, great work man
I've seen almost every xiaomi 14 ultra vs S24 ultra video and this is the first one to show that the S24 Ultra pen can be used to take pictures haha, thank you, it was an awesome video.
19:05 I think Samsung is limited to Wide and Super Tele lenses because you choosen 4k@120fps. I think it allow all the lenses.
I Have Got Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 2 Months Ago I Really Like It❤
Hello Simon, thank you very much for this perfect review. I have a wish. Could you make a comparison video with the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra? That would be helpful for me. BR Jens
I have a sony 1 V now and was wondering IF I want to switch to s24 ultra or Xiaomi 14 ultra how I can get my external mic to work hehe
Oh, I like this video and pictures. Its always a mix of pretty good pictures and important informations. You have the great feeling to make dreamfull pictures. I relax by looking this pictures . Thx.
I wish mobile manufacturers dropped ultrawide sensors and too wide main sensors (25 mm should be the minimum). Indeed, how can one enjoy having a distorted subject that doesn’t look like what the photographer sees in reality. I’d much rather have only 2 or 3 or 4 “big” sensors all featuring sensor-crop, macro, portrait mode and 8K video :
½” to 1 inch sensor, 50 MP, dual pixel PDAF, 25mm or 35 mm (Who will dare?) with variable and fast aperture ( < f/1.8)
½” to 1 inch sensor, 50 MP, dual pixel PDAF, between 50mm and 75mm with variable and fast aperture ( < f/1.8)
½” to 1 inch sensor, 50 MP, dual pixel PDAF, between 75mm and 100mm with variable and fast aperture ( < f/2.0)
½” to 1 inch sensor, 50 MP, dual pixel PDAF, between 100 mm and 150mm with variable and fast aperture ( < f/2.8)
The same goes with zoom over x20 or x30 : what’s the point of having a zoom beyond 500/750mm, unless it be for a “binoculars” feature ? Mobile manufacturers should focus on image quality between x1 and x30, i.e. color consistency, color accuracy, exposure accuracy and sharpness across the different lenses.
Speaking about image quality, I also wish manufacturers gave more information about and focus on the lenses manufacturing, material and coating instead of banking on A.I..
Sensor size-wise, Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo are the closest to these wishes. Yet, I own a Samsung S24 Ultra 1Tb. Why ? First, the trade-in scheme (S23 Ultra 1Tb) during the pre-order period in France and the give-away smartwatch that I sold made the phone down to 500€. Second, a phone is not all about photography : S-pen is quite handy when editing a picture, swiping on keyboard or even surfing on the internet ; with e-sim no hassle of ordering or inserting a sim card (Vivo has e-sim too) and customization is just brilliant. Finally, global versions of Chinese phones are not always available or not easy to get and Chinese versions are a deal breaker as they don't support some of 4G and 5G from European networks.
You may be right about a lot of things, but when it comes to the E-Sim, you are completely wrong, because:
E-Sim should be banned in the EU or completely. This technology allows fraudsters to impersonate someone else or someone from your home country even more cleverly, to disguise themselves and hide, and makes it almost impossible to find the owner of the E-Sim. After a long search, clarifications and research, you might eventually find out that the owner is based in Nigeria, but neither the Nigerian state nor the local police there will help you track down the fraudster who sold you something you never received or who hacked your mobile and misused your credit card. However, E-Sim phone numbers from your home country (country code) can be bought in multipacks at a dumping price. This technology circumvents the ID requirement when signing a mobile phone contract so that the identity can be traced, which currently applies in many smart countries, and thus makes mobile networks unsafe and dangerous.
Thanks for your input. I'll have to delve into that matter.
This was really great, thanks! I hope Samsung sees it and makes some improvements, especially to the hardware on the 3X and the ULTRA WIDE. 🤩😍
Hi, it is a great video, thx! But the Xiaomi 14 ultra has also "dual camera" option, but they hidden it little for some reason! It is available from the "more" setting option in camera mode and among the "short video" settings... And as at the Samsung, you can record with the front camera and you can also choose from the all four rear camera to use! 😉
Thank you for sharing this video.
That's interesting re: exposure issues. I find that having dark objects on your head - in my case, I usually wear a black face mask when in public places to protect from the flu and pollution, and here, you're wearing a very dark beanie - can confuse some Chinese phones, which meter for these objects rather than just the exposed skin on your face.
Also, you should be subscribed toBben's Gadget Review!
correction for 19:02 you can shoot pro video for all lenses. You have it set to 120fps UHD which limits it to those two lenses, same with 8K, but 4K 60, 30, and 24 works for all lenses
oops
Sir what is your opinion Xiaomi or sumsang
awesome videos, thank u
Sir you did nor cover macro capabilities for Xiamo Lenses
2:23 where can i find that information?
Hiii there you first said that both have 4 rear cameras and then you explained about just three cameras on the s24ultra 🙏
4th is 50 MP 5 times periscope
Please do Vivo v30 camera review, they have 50MP main camera and 50MP ultra wide camera too, such amazing i think.
This means you can save 500 dollars and get a much better camera phone which even has a variable aperture and much much better charging speeds both wired and wireless. And a pretty crazy design with vegan leather too.
Why no Macro features on Xiaomi?
Anyways I would love to see how the Xiaomi fares against the vivo x100 pro. Cos I am torn between the 2 and don't know which one to get

I have a Samsung S24 Ultra. And got Xiaomi 14 ultra today. And first reaction?? "Never back to Samsung!" :) First impression of the Xiaomi is sooo much better than the Samsung, and especially the camera! I will not be back to Samsung for long time.

Would I like Samsung to integrate the same quality of camera equipment as Chinese smartphones? Ooh yes !!!
On the other hand, I know that it's not going to happen anytime soon, when you see that despite the super advanced hardware of Chinese smartphones, Galaxy S manages to do as well and very often even better.
And above all, a smartphone is not just a camera 📹, and off camera, Galaxy S is completely above any Chinese smartphone.

What's ur opinion?
Thank you so much for reviewing, you are amazing.
Xiaomi is a very annoying phone, I definitely do not recommend it to anyone.
Definitely buy a Samsung to use it for many years.
Xiaomi wins the hands down. Samsung is strictly no for me having lots of sharpening, purple tint, crap ultraeide 12mp using since generations and garbage edge detections.
Samsung offers a VERY effective three stage Picture Softening feature in it's Camera Assistant settings add-on. This is for photos only though, not for video. It's Ultra wide lens is too old for sure, and it will be replaced by a new 50Mp one next year, in the S25 Ultra. It's edge detections are not brilliant as you rightly say. The Vivo x100 Pro leads the world here.
Nice phones but i'm still an iPhone user. Thanks
10:09 the background looks like a greenscreen, looks fake.
that's my garden. The blur is entirely optical, nothing computational involved
@@SiHorrocks yeah I get it, but the quality of the footage (terrible) is what I was implying.
One homework for Xiaomi is the color consistency between lenses, so far only Samsung and iPhone have managed to solve it.
Another would be the front camera quality. Don't get me wrong, it's a major upgrade over the 13 series, but is still not the same level as the other two giants.
OTOH, whatever Xiaomi has now that are absent in the others are their homework.
So, overall Xiaomi is already in the same level of competition.
No it isn't
