- While we're patiently awaiting the arrival of our Candide Skis order, we wanted to share this review with you as we've spent a considerable amount of time assessing the Resort 101 through the early season here in Vermont. Enjoy and hopefully we've got skis for you soon!

Nice to see the legend with his own ski line and not just putting his name on a ski. And nice to see the design reflect his style
Agree 100% and it fully comes through in its performance.
some nice dedicated reviews on the 101s, but can you also please do the BC111 which i'm probably buying? Thanks! ;)
Great video - thorough and honest as always
Thanks!
One of your best reviews, I think. Especially the comparison to the many other skis. I like the q and a format!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your skiing is so inspirational. Blackout week here, but hope to see you guys up at Stowe with cooler temps and a refresh soon!!
It's funny looking back through all the footage used in this video because it really spanned about a month at Stowe, and we've been through so much in that month. Temps drop tonight and we should be back to more seasonal winter weather patterns!
Awesome :) Waiting for the BC 111 :D
Hi Jeff and Bob…great ‘candid’ stuff per normal thanks for the interesting review. Jeff what Nordica boots are you rollin with this season? How is the instep room etc.
Thanks! I began the season in my trusty Speedmachine 130, but spent a lot of time in the Lange Shadow 130 recently for our review. Next I'll be spending some time in K2 Mindbender 130 BOA and Nordica Unlimited 130, and I've got a Head Raptor WCR 130 Pro for our local race league... This is an extraordinary season for me with boots! Normally, it's very, very hard to find multiple things to test in a 24.5.
In regards to your instep question... Shadow 130 is impressively accommodating over the instep for being a low volume boot.
Great review as always. Can you make a short comparison to the faction mana 2? Does it have a similar felx pattern, but softer? Is is still stiff in tips and tails, but softer in the middle for easy turning and stability. The mana i feel it doesn’t have a lot of pop, how would you compare it?
Thank you guys for the review and the good job you did as always 🤘
I think you're pretty close. We found the Mana to be sturdier and burlier than the new Candide--more similar to the older Faction Candide skis than the new ones. The dimensions are very similar--less sidecut by about 1 or 2 mm in the new Candide, so a slightly straighter cut. Jeff found the pop to be a benefit in the Candide 101 while at 225 pounds, I found it to be similar to the Mana in terms of energy, which was not a lot.
I'd love to try these, I am used to bigger camber so I fear it would lack some tension. I really, really love the simple design !
It does feel pretty drifty. In the ~100mm twin category, check the Rossignol Blackops 98 and the Nordica Unleashed or slightly narrower, the Black Crows Camox.
Awesome Review. How would you compare these Candide with Bent 100, Playmaker 101?
We talked about it from the 26 to 36 minute mark in the video. Generally, it seems like the Candide is the more energetic and poppy of the three while the Bent and Elan are more flexible and amenable to smearier and butterier turns.
before you even get into soft snow.. i have been working on my skid turns.. they work really well with my Enforcer 104 Free.. i don't even know if my other skis will let me... but from a carver that is pretty cool.. i know i can still carve on them so now i am just working on my range..
Bob had great questions.. I am glad he asked you about Bent 100.. I always get nervous when you say more reactive..
How is the Jester different than the Griffen?
Would it work to mount the Resort 101 further forward, say 2-2.5 cm back from true center? I’ll be using them in more of a park application, thank you.
Sure!
Nice review, when do you drop the BC111 video?
We're waiting for more favorable snow conditions to to the wider skis.
Thanks for the review - super interesting. I'm currently intermediate, and want a fun ski. I was contemplating on getting these as my first pair of skis - would you recommend this as a first ski to own? Also I was thinking of getting the 173cm - I'm 180cm / 160lbs. . Would you suggest the 179cm instead?
I think there are better options for first skis--mainly I'd look a bit narrower. Something like the Atomic Bent 90 or the Line Chronic 94 might be more applicable here. I do think the mid 170's make more sense than the uppers!
Thanks for the quick reply, really appreciate it :) @@SkiEssentials
Hi what size for some park tricks ski for a 1m76,77 skieur would you recommand..i have a unique ski i ski with 1m71 but want too pull some 540 etc you dig? thx
I'd go 173 in that ski based on your stats and application. Have fun!
ok thank you

Thanks for the vid. Are these available to demo from Pinnacle? Also would love to try the QST 98 if you have that for demo.
Definitely have the QST to demo, don't yet have Candides for demo.
Will you do a review for the 111 and 121 ?
We're waiting for some more snow!
What POC helmet and Goggle are you wearing?
Fornix Helmet and Nexal Goggle. Great setup!
I don't know what it would look like, but it'd be super cool to see some reviews of J Skis from y'all! Little Vermont collab action.
How does it compare to a revolt 104
Considerably lighter and more poppy. The Revolt has a denser feel to it from a construction perspective, and then it just doesn't have the same energy in the shape--the tail is relatively narrow in the Revolt, and especially so when compared to the Candide. This makes the Revolt have more of a rudder-like feel in the back and more amenable to playful and creative skiing in softer snow.
Can someone pls tell me what exactly they’re talking of when they speak of «groomers»? Do they mean easy difficulty courses, freshly groomed courses by a snowplow or just any piste in general?
Groomers, I guess, equates to on-piste skiing.
@@SkiEssentials already figured that out in the meantime but still I really appreciate it a lot that you responded to my question and want to take the opportunity to thank you for the content you create. Just never heard of it before as non-native speaker and needed to know 👍
What do you think about 1000 skis?
I think they look awesome!
@@SkiEssentials ok thanks...
Ok but volkl revolt 104 is a really good carver
Relatable moment in the review where we all try to be like our heroes: ua-cam.com/video/1mmEdjU3viY/v-deo.html
If you guys watch candide skiing you guys basically described his skiing. He never does on piste skiing. It's all freestyle/freeride and barely carves. I see him ski straight more than turn eve. Through moguls lol
So crazy, right?
Jester over a pivot all day
Hot take!
Candide is half my size literally. Don't think these are for me lol.
How tall is candide?
Any Day Skiing is the Best Day; Maybe you should be locked up for 10 years to Learn some Gratitude for the Mountain.
Totally!
Candide isn't that small. He is 168 cm (5.5 feets)
I would argue that's pretty small. He's also very lightweight, I'm assuming still ~130 lbs or lighter. Certainly much smaller than your average adult male skier.
Where did u hear that from? He was 5’6 in 1999?
Man those things look soft.
They're pretty soft.
@@SkiEssentialsjust went on sale for a reasonable price, I’m going to check them out!
seems a pretty weird ski, feel like the only people who'll buy it will be Candide fanboys
Candide fanboys, but also jibby ex-park skier, all-mountain/freeride folks with playful attitudes will love it. It's flickable and fun, so if you're more into jumping off stuff and being creative than you are carving or other more traditional techniques, you'll love it.
But everyone is a Candide fanboy! That said, these sound like the worst possible ski for me; will not be buying
