250mph in 5 seconds - Corvette Promod does it with EASE

- It's not often we find ourselves at events with promods, but when we do - we have to check them out! This year at Street Car Super Nationals, we unsurprisingly spotted this bright yellow 1959 Corvette Promod from across the pits. It sports a 526 big block with a massive screw blower strapped to the top of it. With it's current trim, it can bust out 5.60's at over 250mph..that's moving!

Until you see cars that can run these times in person you cant fully appreciate them. Ive been to countless races and it still takes my breath away.

Completely agree! Most people here (myself included) would be terrified to even go through startup in one of these.
Watching these get started and raced, it’s not that different from watching fighter jets get carrier launched.
1320 Was absolutely awesome how they did this coverage. They followed us run to run and were in the pits after every run . They took Fantastic photos for us . By far the BEST drag racing media in Motorsports. Thank you again guys !!

I had the privilege to be a track medic for a couple of summers, these teams are truly incredible. Seeing someone time the tree perfectly, and that roar. I remember a guy telling me his goal was to make the world turn backwards when he hit the gas. Lol, all these years later and I still remember his smile.
Seeing how easily it did shows how far the tuning world has come...

NA and turbos are great but just love that classic SCREW BLOWER sound at start up and idling on the line. took my nephews to an all Pro-Mod event at Budds/MIR back like 3 or 4 years ago just so they could learn to identify this sound. my uncle originally did this for me at the Summernationals Englishtown circa 1978, and the rest as they say is 40 years of History.

Pro mods have been in the 5's for probably 15 years now, just depends on the specific sanctioning body rules. Might be time to bring back the Nitro Coupe class, get them into the 4's.

It’s so cool seeing someone who was a good family friend and who’s kids I grew up racing Moto with on 1320!!!!
It's pretty mind boggling when you think a C4 corvette hit 60mph in 5.6 seconds, and this one reaches 256mph in the same amount of time.

@@turbone54 Corvettes are fiberglass, and 'just' ignore the backbone chassis on the road cars and the full tube frame cage on this one.
That cage makes these ones mass more then the road cars.
Having nothing gm left on the car helps a lot too.

@ 06:27 you see the driver pull both levers before rolling in for the burnout, that's selecting top gear for the burnout which they do with ease, insane power/torque for you.

It’s crazy that my brain perceives these cars as looking slow in the video but I can’t even fathom how fast these cars actually are
They leave the start line with more acceleration the the Space Shuttle did on launches.
Went to my first NHRA event in Vegas 4 years ago and been hooked since. Video doesn't do any of these cars justice especially the top fuel cars.
Beautiful car and the driver seems really mellow too.

526 Hemi is a short block. If it's like every other 526 I've seen it has a short deck height (which makes a small block) however it's bored to ginormous cylinders, elongating the block which technically makes it a short block (I know some consider it a big block but by the definition of deck height, it's really not). Not Small Block but a tweener between Small and Big.
Fuel cars in NHRA run 520 short blocks as well.(Cubic Inches doesn't define the type of block).
Bore Centerline Spacing is the real difference between Small Block and Big Block

I love screw blown power adders but I'm thinking the super chargers are less money to keep in operating condition and I think they are producing very similar HP with the ability to tune more consistently.
