we fish with a fly called a "nothing" in early spring the trout will eat a bare size 12 or 14 silver hook with just a dot of black or orange thread built up at the head and then varnished
As a kid, I caught plenty of bluegill on plain hooks. They'll hit anything that falls into the water. We'd toss in pebbles to see them take them and spit them out.
What a god-tier pond. Beautiful water, nice surroundings, dock and structure. Good size and healthy wipers, large mouth, small mouth, crappie, and who knows what else! I am jealous
I think this is the first time that I subscribed to a channel not because of the content, but because of the character. A+ entertainment value bud. Thank you.
LMAO - “the answer is clear”! 🤣🤣 OMG thank you for the Monday morning laugh! I’ve been out of the office for a little over a week and it’s Monday. Today is gonna be fun… 😳🙄😑 but you made it better. Thank you! 😂😂😂😅
Over the years of watching your channel, what I enjoy is seeing the method to your madness. Your paint jobs, choice of species, intricate mechanisms, everything is just nuts, but it works ingeniously. Another great lure, Nate.
One of my favorite topwater lures was a clear torpedo with a white deer tail. Man I miss that lure... not sure who made it but I can show you the tree that ate it 😎
That would definitely be on my top wish list for that pond. You can tell it is super well managed from the water color and the fish are super healthy looking.
As much as I love to watch when you paint, this bait was a real treat. Reminds me of that trend in the late 90s early 00s where it seemed like everyone wanted clear plastics on their electronic devices. Its nice seeing the inner workings of the hardware
Long time viewer (since your silent days) my 5yo watches every ep now too....Every single fish we catch he screams "it's official!!!" Thanks for all that ya do bro.
Would love to see another attempt at the weedless bait that was not only an awesome idea but think could really by something people would buy. Love what you do either way great job
On the real id be careful about the camera on that box, kinda felt like it would be very possible for it to tip and fall into the water. maybe some sort of string you can attach to the tripod then like a karabiner to attach to the latch on the box. Just a thought!
My #1 early Spring and late Fall topwater lure for smallmouth, is a clear Sammy 100 or a clear Gunfish 115. Smallies eat em best when they ignore everything else.
Turn that concept into a swim bait with 4 layers on the front and three on the back. Bigger air pockets and the triangle theory you recently had. Love the video
Think the lure is an A+. You asked for comments about what "I" want. Your painting is A+ especially when doing a bait fish, or a fish. I would assume doing it for as long as you have you get "tired" of same old same old. However, i could watch you do just jointed, painted fish every day. You are an A+ my friend.
Oh this is brilliant! I would like to see in that design a slot for replaceable luminescent sticks so that we can determine if the fish like nothing with extra green light...an evening/early morning trial would be a banger for a luminescent bait....
Hey Marling, 'member when that guy sent you a scroll saw?.....'member????...... But seriously, that was the tool you were looking for to cut the middle out of that piece. Like its designed for that exact situation. Love it man, your channel bridges channels of interest like fishing content and maker content. Both of which I like and watch, you've found the space between and I'm here for it.
That lip reminded me of a K9 swimbait / crankdown. You need to do one like that! Removable lip glide to a Jointed cranking bait. Where it walks (deadwalk) under water.
Decent looking lure. (Pre fishing). A thought occurred to me, but make it with a double hollow section, cause then you could turn it into a rattle bait.
Hi me again, my dad is friends with Keven too. He shocks our pond from time to time, don’t know the last time he shocked it but it was like 3 years ago. But we have 2 fish feeders both are the small pellet ones. And my dad is thinking about stocking our pond with some pellet trained bass which I think would be freaking awesome. And also my dad ice fishes Keven’s pond in the winter but has not fished it in open water yet as for I know. But ya you’re my favorite UA-camr there and you’re the best. Also maybe you me and my dad can fish it together maybe some time next summer if your fine with it. I’m 11 turning 12 here next month so ya. Your the best
Those clear lures reflect a lot of the existing colors in the water. That’s why the clear plastic soft swim baits work so well. The baits look like the bait fish in the specific body of water you are in… which you probably know but I’m older than you and feel a need to counsel!🤣 Good ONE DAY!
I think about and make lures . I've always wanted to make a see-through hard body (to some degree) where 'blood' is moving somewhere in it as you work the lure. With a see-through through lure, you can also put the detail on the inside......so thinking a long those lines
That is awesome...... Would it be possible to make it light up ? Some sort of contactless charging led? That way it could be embedded in the center lamination or something.....
2 of my favorite lures growing up were the baby torpedo and the Zara pup both clear. I have caught more bass on those 2 lures than any other here in South Mississippi.
Clearer the water the clearer the bait. Your pond appeared to have clear water. I figured your bait would do well. Some of the most successful baits are the translucent Wiggle Warts. If the fish get too good a look at most baits they identify it as fake. Unless I’m fishing stained or dirty water I’m using something more subtle. A good color for top water in clear water is bone. Really enjoy your videos
You should try other versions of this bait - one with a rattle in the hollow space, a colored LED or with a UV reflecting coating to see if they work even better. Also, coatings like matte Vantablack or flat mirrors on the sides would be interesting to test on a different bait.
Will fish eat a hook? (a hooked shaped lure with hooks off the bottom)
Yeah they do. When you herring fish you use a gold hook nothing more. At least in the delaware river.
I second this nomination
we fish with a fly called a "nothing" in early spring the trout will eat a bare size 12 or 14 silver hook with just a dot of black or orange thread built up at the head and then varnished
As a kid, I caught plenty of bluegill on plain hooks. They'll hit anything that falls into the water. We'd toss in pebbles to see them take them and spit them out.
Please pin this!!
My favorite part is when the fly landed and got shot. "ahh much better" -marling baits
keep up the good work dude congrats on 600k too
YEAH THAT'S SOO TRUE 😂
What a god-tier pond.
Beautiful water, nice surroundings, dock and structure.
Good size and healthy wipers, large mouth, small mouth, crappie, and who knows what else!
I am jealous
I think this is the first time that I subscribed to a channel not because of the content, but because of the character. A+ entertainment value bud. Thank you.
So the question is are you making something from nothing or nothing from something the answer is clear lol
Took me to long to think about tbh with you 😂
LMAO - “the answer is clear”! 🤣🤣 OMG thank you for the Monday morning laugh! I’ve been out of the office for a little over a week and it’s Monday. Today is gonna be fun… 😳🙄😑 but you made it better. Thank you! 😂😂😂😅
Such prominent net use! How responsible! I'm so proud of you!
Man I miss that lure... not sure who made it but I can show you the tree that ate it 😎
Attempt #51 of asking for a Payara (vampire fish) lure!
Second this.
That would be sick
100 likes and Nate has to do it
I think he made one a while back.
I’ve done this 51 times and this the first time it’s really blown up lol
Hello again Nate. Still missing a riverside lure build for the year. Keep it up!
Largemouth, smallmouth, catfish, crappie AND wiper? That's like a dream backyard pond.
That would definitely be on my top wish list for that pond. You can tell it is super well managed from the water color and the fish are super healthy looking.
So clear makes a super effective bait fish that attracts the larger bass of the pond.
Enjoying these recent uploads man
yeah me too
Next do the “anti-lure”, no lip, no action, no flash, camouflaged paint scheme.
I know for a fact that large bass and stripers love a clear Zara spook style topwater bait. And they're cool. O-fish-al. 😎👍
Love to see a clear lure like this full of dry glitter ✨️ great video mate
This is actually one of my favorite videos that you’ve made.
super awesome nate! great idea to make a nothing bait. the fish action was fantastic my friend. thank you.
Love the videos ive been watching for 4 or 5 years now and i swear each video gets better keep up the great work.
That pond is amazing. Nice build and another great video.
As much as I love to watch when you paint, this bait was a real treat. Reminds me of that trend in the late 90s early 00s where it seemed like everyone wanted clear plastics on their electronic devices. Its nice seeing the inner workings of the hardware
Well, that performed much better than i imagined it would……and what an amazing little pond with so many species in it…AND Chunkers. 👍👍👍
That’s the most unique pond I’ve ever seen. Really awesome
So satisfying to see your hardware in the hole....
I'm naming it the ice cube lure! Awesome, thanks for this and all your hard work and content 😀
We are so thankful for your amazing content!!
I thought that was gonna be a new plastic addition to the channel, but nope, just another brilliant idea from the legend himself
Just noticed the award for valor.
Well done Nate.
Ya Im pretty sure he talked about it in a video a while back. Wish I remembered what video it was
it was for his life saving efforts as a lifeguard in Cedar Rapids when he was 18 years old. Salute!!!!
Thanks for making my suggestions. Just made my day.
Not sure how you keep coming up with these ideas, just glad that you do. Great job!
So glad you got to the ditch as well. River fish love a big fat nothing burger too!
♡♡♡ Love the slow motion releases.!
Dude. This has got to be one of the most fun videos. 😂 Very awesome lure.
Been watching for a little over 7 years and every video is always just great
I have a clear super spook jr. It has caught many bass and red fish. I think there's something to these clear lures.
Long time viewer (since your silent days) my 5yo watches every ep now too....Every single fish we catch he screams "it's official!!!" Thanks for all that ya do bro.
Cool lure! That is a nice pond!
Random facts just a couple. Thanks for dropping new videos, I hope the family is doing good!
That bait is killin em! Great video!
I love the kayak fishing wish you would do more.
This nothing bait has merit. Catches all kinds of fishes. Nice work Kent…please pursue this nothing thing !!!!!
You are my favorite lure maker ever 😊
Crazy dream pond, never seen something like it.
On the next episode, vantablack lure!
Absolutely love your content ,keep up the amazing work 👏👏

Crazy cool multi species video!!!
Bro just Irish mafia’d that fly 😂😂😂
Would love to see another attempt at the weedless bait that was not only an awesome idea but think could really by something people would buy. Love what you do either way great job
I haven't been counting, but I've definitely been asking for an EPIC redo of the mantis lure. Haha.
Awesome Ghost Lure! I would say fish REALLY like Ghost Baits! 😃👍
On the real id be careful about the camera on that box, kinda felt like it would be very possible for it to tip and fall into the water. maybe some sort of string you can attach to the tripod then like a karabiner to attach to the latch on the box. Just a thought!
Some very nice fish, Love the videos as always!
glitter mixed with the uv resin?
Why Oh why? This simple transparent lure works like magic!!!👌👌👌
Now I want to try this great video marling!
Make a replica of your kayak and see if it catches anything! Love the work you do.
Made my day man always happy to see you post!!

Thank you for your sharing bro,I like to watch your video, see you then,God bless you.
You are my first favorite lure maker ever lol😊
Finally, an answer to the ultimate question. Thanks Nate
Another classic One Day! Would love to see a Top Gear style ranking system for your quickest offishial One Days
Oh this is brilliant! I would like to see in that design a slot for replaceable luminescent sticks so that we can determine if the fish like nothing with extra green light...an evening/early morning trial would be a banger for a luminescent bait....
14:28 When that chainsaw kicked in I was like "Yeah, that ain't helping." 3 seconds later, monster bass slams the Nothing lure!!!
And now i know I've been painting all my lure blanks for no reason! Thanks Nate!
You sir, are like the Bob Ross of making and fishing the lures you make.
Hey Marling, 'member when that guy sent you a scroll saw?.....'member????...... But seriously, that was the tool you were looking for to cut the middle out of that piece. The manual start for your little belt sander is a nice safety. Lol
This was awesome!
Nice man love your vids. Here from South Africa. :). we have the spotted grunter and they love translucent lures 😊
One of my favorite lures is an Ima chappy 80 in the mark cowling edition it's see through topwater just clear plastic amazing in bright sun
Dude, relax. We got wives on here. 😂 7:10
He knew it too 😂😂😂😂
That's EXACTLY how I talk. And you should do a catch and cook with both pond and river Bass and see which tastes better.
Congratulations on 600k man!!!
That lip reminded me of a K9 swimbait / crankdown. You need to do one like that! Removable lip glide to a Jointed cranking bait. Where it walks (deadwalk) under water.

Also my dad is Landon
This is a great technique for making lipless cranks. I've made a few with great results. No need for a ton of added weight either
Those clear lures reflect a lot of the existing colors in the water. That’s why the clear plastic soft swim baits work so well. The baits look like the bait fish in the specific body of water you are in… which you probably know but I’m older than you and feel a need to counsel!🤣 Good ONE DAY!
this may be one of your best producers
600k subs!!! Congrats Nate

It would be cool to see a Riverside build where are you build one plastic, one metal and one wood lure all from recycled or found items👍🏻👍🏻
That is awesome......
Would it be possible to make it light up ?
Some sort of contactless charging led?
That way it could be embedded in the center lamination or something.....
Another bait to slay!!!🔥
2 of my favorite lures growing up were the baby torpedo and the Zara pup both clear. I have caught more bass on those 2 lures than any other here in South Mississippi.
1:17 I like how you get the sander going lol
Video quality was really nice in this one.
I've haven't asked again in a couple of years......but please consider making a scubadiver lure 🙏
I want to see you catch fish on a tiny scuba diver.
I had transparent torpedo top water baits that were effective.
Clearer the water the clearer the bait. Your pond appeared to have clear water.

Man, what an epic pond. Largies, smallies, wipers, crappie and catfish?? Daaaaaang
Hell yah ! The bug assult .love that gun
Anyone who gets mad about pond fishing is just mad they don't have any ponds to fish at. There is nothing wrong with pond fishing.
You should try other versions of this bait - one with a rattle in the hollow space, a colored LED or with a UV reflecting coating to see if they work even better. Also, coatings like matte Vantablack or flat mirrors on the sides would be interesting to test on a different bait.
The center cutout you could put a colored foil between the outsides. And with all the various foils available, the ideas abound.
