    Such an awesome set up, I have always wanted to build one similar with the natural plant filtration. I have to say great narrating, you have made it easy to follow and understand step by step. Looking forward to future clips.

    Your video's are outstanding, great audio, well spoken, educational. I'm really enjoying them... Can't wait for an update on the chili's 🙂

      Thanks so much! The chilis are sitting at 5.5ph eating live food every day and giving me nothing! There's some factor I haven't figured out yet but I'll keep working at it.

      @@MakeMoreFish have you tried covering the tank with a towel? I have heard they are first light spawners

    Cool setup Lowell I like it! Also very creative with the risers to get your light higher up off the tank! I always want my plants to grow out the top of the water but my lights sit right at the surface.

      I really wanted to make sure all the pothos plants get enough light to do their job. It also lowers the intensity of light in the tanks themselves so I don't get much algae growth

      @@MakeMoreFish that’s really smart! I enjoy those massive balls of roots in the water! Perfect for fish to hide throughout

    Wicked setup. Only thing I'd change is adding a second, redundant drain. I guess you're not dealing with saltwater nonsense, so it isn't as much of an issue but I've had snails and/or buildup almost screw me over.

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  2 роки тому

      I completely agree about the redundant drains. I just keep an eye on the water level relative to the strainers and make sure they stay clean. A fail safe would be much better

    That's the way a great number of fish farms do things..they let plants remove the nitrates

    I’m figuring out how I can do a similar setup for my 40 gallon tanks. Do you consider it necessary to utilize a matten filter with the pvc, or could you just use the sponge as a separator? Wouldn’t the uplift pump on one side and input pipe on the other provide a current through the sponge?

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  Рік тому

      Sure, you can just use the sponge as a separator. It just depends on how much flow you want to push through it. If all the flow comes from the circulation pump, it can get pretty loud and gurgly at the overflow depending on how you have it built. Personally I generate most of the flow with the uplift and the circulation pump only slowly exchanges water between tanks

    Great set up, where do you source the foam? Is it course or medium? I want to separate a few tanks and wondering if you need a more open or course foam to achieve good water flow?

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  Рік тому +1

      2" thick foam pads bought from amazon. You can find them in various sizes. Medium I would say, not super coarse.

    I've watched it a couple of times, but am still unsure as to the flow pattern. It goes from bottom tank to top, top to bottom, but how are the middle two tanks attached to the top?

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  Рік тому +2

      The top two are connected and the bottom two are connected, there's no connection between the middle tanks

      @@MakeMoreFish Ah nice. So top to bottom is simply the tank above it to the one below! got it!
