You are right. The Star is quite a film as it is the story of so many Hollywood actresses. Bette Davis had just lost her contract at Warners and she was having trouble getting good scripts by this time. But the Star is a good story and is one of Bette's most under appreciated films. Only the ending of the film is a let down as Bette runs into the arms of Sterling Hayden to live happy ever after...a bit too cliché.
@@Garsons-oq4lh 🔴Including The Star. All great movies. The Star might not be as dramatic but it pulls back the facade of Hollywood, fame, and aging as is applies to everyday living. Fame and fortune are fleeting and in the end- it doesn't fulfill or comfort you. MAY SOUND CLICHE BUT LOVE AND FAMILY Will.
@@jackanthony976 You are absolutely correct there. I was referring to those lucky enough to have family members who are supportive, loving, fun with a sense of humor.. Not every one has a good family. Ever meet my brother?😝
I like it when she meets the man who has always been in love with her since she was young and they start talking about her career and she appears in a beautiful poster young and blonde this film left me very impressed Davis is incredible
I truly think this is Bette's best performance. I've always thought that she inspired somehow in the neorrealistic style of Anna Magnani for this picture
Fresh and dewey becomes a bore quite quickly. Hollywood executives cast actress who are in their wet dreams, not necessarily actresses who can command a movie screen. Most fresh and dewey actresses put me to sleep unless they've got something other than fresh and dewey to offer. Give me and actress who has lived life and withered the storms of life..now that is an interesting actress.
✔3 packs a day? I'd bet it was closer to five! I loved Bette Davis but her smoking was something to behold. You never saw her Not smoking. Her lungs must of been blacker than coal.😲 Why people do that to themselves is beyond me. You have to have AIR to breathe, to live, and smoking takes it away.😔 She truly suffered at the end of her life for all that smoking. RIP Bette Davis.
This is so real for her and many other women of that era who committed the sin of being over 40. Sad and unfair!
This film was about Joan Crawford.
I didn't care for this movie when I was much younger myself. I'm now approaching 50 and I like a lot more.
Wow! The Star seems to be a far, far better film that most people give it credit for.

@@jackanthony976 Barbara Stanwyck was superior in Clash by Night. Hell, Joan Crawford was too in Sudden Fear!

That Bette Davis inspired Anna Magnani, or vice versa?
Oh Bette’s terrible __ all monitoring and mannerisms.
Much better than today's movies and acrors.
I've never seen this movie. Must see it now!
Love Bette Davis have all her movies
were is my LOVE the young Natalie Wood A star is born
How to watch the FULL MOVIE!!
One certainly doesn't keep that "dewey" quality with cigarettes and booze!!! And adjusted for inflation, $40,000.00 is 370,000.00!
Is this the Whole movie?
Maybe you'd be more fresh and Dewey if you smoke less than 3 packs a day

Liza Minnelli is/was also a big smoker , quite unbelievable
@@muse7746 in those days smoking was like the "in" thing to do. And it was advertised as healthy and cool.
Oh, and die young.
Sunglasses at night, fierce!
If she had pride she would never have made "The nanny"!!!!
Yes, but she obviously had bills to pay, not to mention, others to support.
The Nanny is actually a great film. Not even in a campy way - just a very respectable, well-made, creepy film with good performances.
