Back to the Future 3 makes Doc the main character with the love interest. Reminds me of when they say each other’s catchphrases “Great Scott” and “this is heavy!” In this one it’s Scrooge is the Doc. I love this connection
I don't think Louies partnership with Goldie is going to work out particularly when things don't go to plan which never do with Goldie who has to rely on other people to get anywhere.
I really couldn't believe it when I saw Rockerduck in Ducktales. Though I did flinch when I first heard the right pronunciation of his name (I'm Italian so my family always read it as ROCKER-DOOK)
Really loved see rockerduck into the show, what differentiate him to scrooge its that he didn't get his fortune alone but mostly heir it from his father (who teach scrooge how to be a miner) and in comics he got this hate for 'poors' and his butler /servant jeeves or lusky in Italy is less intimidating and more slim and very loyal to his 'boss' and another trait the comic rockerduck have is the mutual respect for scrooge that he will never even dare confess but he have it and a last funny thing he is usually to do when his schemes fails is to eat his hat! It's a funny thing that hope to see animated in the show
Yeah, RetroGizmo took me out of it a bit - found myself doing a very David Tennant-esque (as the Doctor) "Nooo.....NOOOoo.... NO!" as each piece fell into place creating Gizmo. If Gyro hadn't been knocked out, it might've made sense to have him see RetroGizmo and get his idea for the modern Gizmo from there.
When *I* saw it, I figured RetroGizmo was inspired by modern Gizmo- but I was just left a tad confused. It's cool that ingenuity has always run in Fenton's family, though.
I know right? I mean, to be honest, he's right. There isn't anything wrong with putting more spotlight on other characters because I know this show wants to let the viewers know more about them. But still, I feel Disney and the writers have been ignoring Scrooge lately and put more focus on those kids now, which is started to get annoying to me. It's just that... since Ducktales is supposed to be based on the Scrooge McDuck comics, it feels really hard to see less of him in the show now. Maybe that's why I find it a bit annoying? I don't know.
Actually, I'd say this is really par for the course when it comes to Scrooge. While he's not above using deception or taking advantage of someone else's ignorance or needs, Rosa and Barks long established that he hated the idea of cheating or scamming anyone to make a quick buck.
This episode is where Gyro is the one that goes back in time with the time tub that he can't control because it had gone sentient theory was right. I came up with a theory when I saw the San Diego Comic-Con picture with Gyro in it. I'm so happy my theory was right. :)
I didn't even realize who John D. Rockerduck was. I only know him from the comics(I love that they are even using mostly european characters), where he has a translated name. Andy Anderbilt, aka. Ducky Duckerbilt. ... Maybe the english name is better
Rockerduck's butler sure got buff when compared to comics. You pretty much summed Rockerduck from comics, just missed that he became rich through inheritance and has habit of eating his hat when he loses
I'm not sure how canon it is, but wasn't Rockerducks father actually on really good terms with scrooge, having worked for his riches himself, actually mining with him for the fun of it even though he was already rich? Meanwhile, the younger Rockerduck was a spoiled brat. It stuck with me, because it gave such a nice context to the usual stories.
@@Leartin Rockerduck was spoiled yeah, but his father was kind of sad and bitter about nature of rich man ""the respect of everyone, and the friendship of no one" and told Scrooge to go back to his family in scotland when he becomes rich.
I had a few issues with this episode. Keep in mind, this is more or less becouse I am in love with the Rosa cannon. This could have been a perfect re-telling of when Scrooge found copper, and learned prospecting. I was hoping for Rockerduck Senior, who kindly thought Scrooge prospecting, instead we got junior, being his usual asshole self. When first seeing Gearloose, I was hoping for the old engineer, Rachet, from Scrooge's steamboat, instead we get his time-traveling grandson Gyro. Still, it was a good episode.
I didnt really like how they portrayed Rockerduck and Jeeves. Rockerduck felt like a Glomgold wannabe and Jeeves was too dull... I think they deserved better considering this is their first appearance in a cartoon. Rockerduck is kind of a jerk but not in this way. And maybe a nitpick, but him not eating his hat was very dissapointing, since the gag is almost an essential part of his character. I hope we see more of them later on. I mean, the Rockerduck bloodline is still alive in present Duckburg
I would say that Rockerduck in the comics is a slightly less evil version of comic Glomgold. There is a comic where Rockerduck, the Beagle Boys, Magica and Glomgold all work together against Scrooge McDuck. It's actually Rockerduck who gets remorse. Same in some other comics. But he still does a lot of evil stuff. You would say were comic Glomgold would think twice of killing a person, Rockerduck actually seems to have a little bit of a conscience
Scrooge's main backstory in Bark's comics was that he was a honest self made man. Glamgold was a self made man too, but utterly dishonest, and Rockerduck was besically honest, if a bit arrogant, but was born rich and didn't have to earn a single penny (which made him a big spender, also in contrast to Scrooge's stinginess). In the end Barks found Glamgold a more compelling antagonist and dropped Rockerduck. In Europe they dropped Glamgold and had Rockerduck pick up some of his traits, so he ended up being rich because family, big spender, but also not a stranger to shady tactics to win the competitions with Scrooge. I legitimately wonder if Barks dropped Rockerduck because harping on honest family riches doesn't work well in America, and the Europeans dropped Glamgold because, being in the comics a South African Boer rather than a Scotsman, he came with lots of messy political and colonial overtones, even if the character himself never put any weight on that.
I like that Scrooge isn't focused on heavily. Leaves room for the fact that he (at least to me) should feel mysterious in his past. All the questions the other characters have being unanswered and only focusing on his present is perfect. Just the occasional episode like this has always been fine by me.
Maybe it's just me but, I feel like I've seen this version of Rockerduck somewhere else before. I know it's not from the original Ducktales as I have yet to see more than one episode of that, but I'm not sure which show I've seen him on before. The only other show where he might have appeared that actually has Scrooge in it from time to time was Mickey's House of Mouse show. Any ideas Mr. Seanicus? Also as a heads up I'm an American.
So, the 3 main story arcs for Season 2 are the Louie Inc. one, the Scrooge vs. Glomgold bet and the one involving Della on the Moon. But, wasn't there also a cliffhanger that showed a giant, carnivorous plant coming back to life? Whatever happened to that?
I just went through the upcoming episodes on the Ducktales Wiki. I got to “The Duck Knight Returns” and read the episode description. “When Scrooge and Dewey make a gritty Darkwing Duck movie” Ok, so far so good, it’s playing on the fact Darkwing is a fictional character in this world. Then I read the second part of the episode description. “Launchpad teams up with the original Darkwing to stop it.” OHMYHOLYCHEETOS I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY
Rockerduck? Isn't that the name of the estates in Duckburg Quest? (Sorry I'm not referencing something else instead of this. I don't really go that deep into comics & stuff)
That makes me think Rockerduck's family and descendants are real-estate tycoons in modern Duckburg. There could be a great-great nephew that acts more like the John D. of the comics.
The Rockerduck character confused me as there was a similarly named character in a by now obscure media of the Disney Afternoon. In an old read along cassette tape of Darkwing Duck, his foe was an original villain named Frequencia who used song frequencies to hypnotize people and steal their riches. One of her victims was a doweger by the name of Joan D. Rockefeather--hence my confusion with Rockerduck
I can't wait until you get to the next episode because, my god, it was a crazy episode! Also, can't wait for the Della episodes too. Trust me, it gets even better.
To be honest, for a long time I thought that glomgold was Rockerduck, or "patacôncio", as we know here in Brazil, I only met glomgold on the ducktales remaster videogame, and I was like "why is Rockerduck so different from the comics?
I always imagined that Scrooge would get rich and hire The inventor anyways and that inventor would invent that time machine, meaning that him going back to the past wouldn’t change much.
Personally, I hate the Goldie and Scrooge romance. Look, I'm not the biggest fan of romance in any sort of medium, but this kind of love is the worst. It's Catwoman and Batman all over again; there is no real reason for Batman/Scrooge to care for Goldie/Catwoman beyond feeling lonely. This means that Batman/Scrooge love the companionship and not the actual person. How is that supposed to develop into a good relationship? Add to that the fact that Goldie and Catwoman are both CRIMINALS and the whole thing becomes a mess of WHY? Why them?
will i did enjoy the episode i'm a little disappointed that rockerduck was just use as a one time antagonist instead of a recurring one, since i live in italy (but i like to watch cartoons in english online) i’m more used to se rockerduck as scrooge rival, they could at least have him eat his hat from the anger of the lost.
This was actually the first episode aside from maybe "Daytrip of Doom!" that I really didn't care for. My biggest problem is how Louie's character backslides, both in terms of his loss of momentum as a businessman and his willingness to completely disregard Scrooge's advice. That said, I had other problems too. The Old West Gizmoduck didn't work for me - maybe if Gyro had helped build it, but for it to just kind of happen? No thanks. Second, I thought Rockerduck didn't get enough screentime to be an interesting antagonist. Finally, Goldie's voice sounded weirdly off to me - I assumed it was someone trying to imitate Allison Janney until I got to the credits.
I saw it, but I can't talk about everything. I just focus on the things that interest me the most -- DuckTales has so many jokes and references, listing them all could be its own series!
Louie: "EW! OLD people romance, YUCK!"
Scrooge: "We weren't old back THEN"
Louie: "its impossible to imagine you young"

Awesome review Seaniccus!
Can’t wait for your reviews of the Della episodes :)
You forgot to mention when Louie contacts Goldie so he can make fast money
If you wanna meet a Puerto Rican from New York with a southern accent? *Meet Marshall*
Yay! The reviews are back! Tho, I wanted to know your reaction to Louie calling up Goldie at the end...
Back to the Future 3 makes Doc the main character with the love interest. Reminds me of when they say each other’s catchphrases “Great Scott” and “this is heavy!” In this one it’s Scrooge is the Doc. I love this connection
In my opinion, John Hodgman did a great job voicing Rockerduck.
That’s the reason why I’m watching the shown on english. I mean, nothing against the person, but just listen to the German voice actor… 😫
i just love goldie being the instigator. what a queen. what an icon.
Their relationship is a lot like Batman and Catwoman’s relationship in the DC Comics and the telltale games game
I can’t wait for a Luey and Goldie episode
I don't think Louies partnership with Goldie is going to work out particularly when things don't go to plan which never do with Goldie who has to rely on other people to get anywhere.
Rockerduck will always be von Pluring in my heart.
I really couldn't believe it when I saw Rockerduck in Ducktales. Though I did flinch when I first heard the right pronunciation of his name (I'm Italian so my family always read it as ROCKER-DOOK)
😅
I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about Louie looking to learn from Goldie at the episodes end.
7:00 On that note, the sheriff does mention they could probably have caught up with the train on real horses.
Finally, someone realizes that scrooge doesn't have enough episodes.
Has anyone noticed that Scrooge's prospector outfit kinda looks like Stinky Pete's from Toy Story 2?
It's almost like they're both gold prospectors or something.
Actually, I'd say this is really par for the course when it comes to Scrooge. While he's not above using deception or taking advantage of someone else's ignorance or needs, Rosa and Barks long established that he hated the idea of cheating or scamming anyone to make a quick buck.
and this why Scrooge McDuck is awesome in both the old show and the new show too.
wow that was a real fun Ep.
In Germany his name is ,,Klaas Klever”. Didn’t know it was him too till I got to know the english name.
This episode is not available on demand for some reason. Luckily, I was able to watch it live, but I really wanted to watch it again.
Finally someone else. Thanks.
The time tub also a gold Tech invention of Gyro. :)
I'm glad that I wasn't the only one being reminded of Back to the Future part 3.
This episode reminds me of "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck"
So, the 3 main story arcs for Season 2 are the Louie Inc. one, the Scrooge vs. Glomgold bet and the one involving Della on the Moon. But, wasn't there also a cliffhanger that showed a giant, carnivorous plant coming back to life? Whatever happened to that?
This is a great review, Seaniccus. I can't wait for more.
I think it's called a Steampunk Gizmoduck
I just went through the upcoming episodes on the Ducktales Wiki. I got to “The Duck Knight Returns” and read the episode description. “When Scrooge and Dewey make a gritty Darkwing Duck movie” Ok, so far so good, it’s playing on the fact Darkwing is a fictional character in this world. Then I read the second part of the episode description. “Launchpad teams up with the original Darkwing to stop it.” OHMYHOLYCHEETOS I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY
As a crazy hero once said "Let's get dangerous!"
Sloth Overlord 🤩aw yeah!
My guess is why we don't see Rockerduck in the US, is because of the Rockerfellas families and how they would react to this.
This makes me think about how they feel about Roosevelt. (I am remembering the correct President that busted up the trusts and monopolies right?)
Can't wait for your videos on the new episodes focused on Della.
Why do you always dislike the best parts of episodes? The Steampunk Gizmoduck climax was amazing!
I love getting rapid episodes it’s wonderful getting one every day gives me something to watch
The time paradox was hilarious.
One of the greatest animated series of the modern era .... Yes ! I said it .
i would really like them to do a gyro centric episode now
Am I the only one who caught the "There Will Be Blood" references?
I am a sucker for anything with Lin Manuel Miranda
Were those supposed to be Speeder bikes from ROTJ? Or Turbo Mules from Bravestarr?
I always imagined that Scrooge would get rich and hire The inventor anyways and that inventor would invent that time machine, meaning that him going back to the past wouldn’t change much.
It feels so wierd to me to see the original gyro
I first seen Rockerduck in the 'DuckTales' comics by Warren Spector, and to me, he seemed like a third rival for Scrooge.
Why them?
To think that time tub becomes important later in the season
3:15
When you think about it
he is a lot like
Pacifica Northwest
Don't forget David Tennant is a Doctor Who alum.
will i did enjoy the episode i'm a little disappointed that rockerduck was just use as a one time antagonist instead of a recurring one, since i live in italy (but i like to watch cartoons in english online) i’m more used to se rockerduck as scrooge rival, they could at least have him eat his hat from the anger of the lost.
nothing stopping him from being a villain in a future story via flashback, time travel or him just being older.
NekoVira well whe just gona wait and see
This was actually the first episode aside from maybe "Daytrip of Doom!" that I really didn't care for.
Steampunk Gizmoduck for the win :)
How did you see this episode? It hasn’t aired yet, has it? It’s not listed on Disney Channel On Demand.
I'm just really eager for you to review the episode where Della finally returned to Earth and to her family
CN SAYIN!!! You’re not supposed to spoil it for him!
I love time travel!
Lin's British accent is significantly better than his southern accent.
but i never get see this ep.
wow good review.
I think you missed the James Bond/Oddjob/Jaws reference.
I saw it, but I can't talk about everything. I just focus on the things that interest me the most -- DuckTales has so many jokes and references, listing them all could be its own series!
In happy birthday doofus Drake Goldie teams up with Louie
To escape he evil party or something like that
What about Donald? :(
Wait what? I can’t find this episode anyone I’m so confused
The mad haberdashery. Hahaha. Get it?
I still would have gone with JD Rockerfeather. That bird pun fits more.
Where and when did this air?
I saw it live last week but they never put it On Demand.
It was a great episode!
