Webby still strikes me as the same shy girl she was in the original series. Only big change to her is her abilities as an adventurous person. She still struggles deeply with social interaction and understanding her place in the mcduck family. Maybe im just looking at it wrong, but it seems like only the outside has really changed, and i love that they are using that to explore her a bit deeper then what was originally done.

I really enjoyed the subplot with Della and Launchpad. Not only was it fun seeing their differing ways of treating the plane, but I can also kind of relate to each character's side of the situation (i.e. doing a task differently than how somebody else would). Oh yeah, and seeing Launchpad wear his classic pilot cap was a nice touch. All he needs is a scarf and it'd be complete.

It's a shame you didn't go into Cornelius Coot that much, but it's fine, since you went into aspects of this episode that interested you and a few things even I didn't realize. For the record, in the comics, not only is Cornelius Coot the founder of Duckberg, in one Don Rosa comic, it's stated that he's the grandfather of Donald's grandma, making him a member of the Duck family! He also formed the Junior Woodchucks. Neither of these were mentioned in this episode, so it's unclear if these apply to the reboot version of Cornelius Coot.

Interesting that the show outright acknowledges how they're in the awkward position of having two characters with pretty much the same skillset, and takes the smart choice to immediately differentiate them. Launchpad's classic headgear is a leather aviator-helmet... which the designers gave to Della in favor of giving Launchpad a ballcap... thus making Launchpad McQuack kith and kin to another adorable knucklehead from the Disney Television Animation annals- Soos from "Gravity Falls."
Much of the new crop of DTA series-creators were on the "Gravity Falls" team- Matt Youngberg and Francisco Argonez on the DuckTales reboot, Matt Braly of "Amphibia" (if you're not watching that one, FIX THAT), and even Dana Terrace of the upcoming series "The Owl House..." which even has "Gravity Falls" creator Alex Hirsch in a supporting-role that actually promises to be pretty darn delightful.

That's a great observation between of how Launchpad, and Della work as characters and what they know about piloting. Della has had way more experience in flaying planes, and how to fix them properly than Launchpad could ever hope to achieve. Yet, Launchpad is so oblivious, and full of pride that never took a good hard, look at himself, and how wrong his approach to piloting, and taking care of a plane. Also, he probably used his sister's chewing gum to 'glue' the wings in place. (Perhaps A very subtle nod the the episode 'Top Duck'. Not nearly as big a nod as the mind cart, but still a nod.) Also, I never noticed that Launchpad's now wearing a traditional pilot's cap until now. Probably because it looks slightly different him his cap in the original series, and by this point we've been use to seeing him wearing the baseball cap that a different had would seem a bit off, but it still works.

Scrooge was an investor for both the "unsinkable" Titanic and the "unstoppable" Hindenberg which taught him that there's no such thing as a "perfect" means of travel. My Theory: Launchpad is going to need or want to learn how to be the decent pilot he was in the original DarkWing Duck cartoon, so he gets Della to teach him and this episode was the groundwork for that. Della has already had episodes with character growth but as long as Launchpad has been in the show he hasn’t had as much development. This launchpad could still be the big brother type. I'm hoping that with Doofus' parents now back in control, they force him to join the Junior Woodchucks and he ends up bonding with Launchpad like he did originally... although he also has that obsessive personality in this series so they might put a twist on it. Still, seeing him look up to Launchpad would be neat.

  • @arc7375

Let’s be real here - Della didn’t need her experience with Launchpad to inform her actions for Webby.
Launchpad is a fully grown adult that’s not only completely inept and stupid, he’s been routinely destroying her plane and dangerously reassembling it, all the while constantly putting her entire family in serious danger when he flies them, since he’s a terrible pilot.
    Webby is a child.
If anything, Della talking with Webby is what informs her how to treat Launchpad. Which is to say, he’s a moron and must be spoken to and treated like a child.

Now we have at least one of the nephews' parents as more than a name, any chance we could find out what happened to Webby's parents? My headcanon is they were SHUSH agents and something bad happened to them that Mrs Beakley blames herself for, so there's going to be a future episode where she and Webby have some variation of the "Why did you never tell me?!?" moment.

  • @gentlerat

Honestly I find the boys' reaction to Webby here a bit mystifying. It doesn't match up.

It was not a bad episode overall. However, I am curious how they will keep Dellas role relevant to the show without abandoning Donald, whom we need in more episodes in season 3. I also think its a shame this new Ducktales does so much good character development for some characters then falls flat on others. Huey's character is not consistant or done properly, and the girls are portrayed rather tomboyish which is fine except it suggests that anything other than that behaviour is not good.

Launchpad strikes me as a guy who is not very intelligent (doesn't know the names for all the pieces of the plane, for example), but is very WISE. He's really good at intuitively knowing how the pieces fit together, even if he doesn't know what they are called or even what they do. He's good at people and, while I'd say he's oblivious sometimes, he can also be good at reading a room (like in the Last Crash of the Sunchaser when he sees the other adults arguing and puts on the TV to distract the kids).
Maybe this is all coming from my current D&D fixation where wisdom and intelligence are classified as two different things. Intelligence is knowing information about things, and Wisdom is about being perceptive and knowing how to act in a situation.

    • @maskedmallard537
      @maskedmallard537 2 місяці тому +1

In the original series, he had to learn to git gud at fixing planes Because he kept crashing them. He gets his first "crash" course in this in the part of the pilot where they pick up Donald for his 72 hour leave and crash in the Andes mountains. Scrooge tells him to fix the plane, and he says, "Hey, I'm a Flyer, not a plier." We later see him working on the plane that night with Donald helping him, Donald having shown his mechanical prowess in past comics by yearly disassembling his car down to individual parts to clean it, then put it back together again.
(Headcanon) After years of doing this, Launchpad got so good that he was able to design and build the Thunderquack.
