Nice tutorial Kreg. The idea of wet sanding has been intimidating to me, but you really helped a lot. Looking forward to Part 2. Thanks!

One tip I'll share with you, that I like to do, when using that style kicker bottle (@10:55). Is unscrew the cap/spray nozzle, and use the hose that feeds the spray nozzle from the bottom...and use it as a "pipette." You can tap it a bit to get some control on how much you want to add. Just make sure you secure the bottle, so it doesn't spill!!

I think you enjoy painting more than anything else in model builds.
A good engraver's set is on my list of things to get before I start building again. I've seen guys use black panel liner for door edges and trunk, but to me that always looks grimy or uneven when it dries, and really doesn't look good on light colors such as yellow - even if gray panel liner is used. Scribing looks much better.

Great to see you having issues and things not going quite right. Well great for me not so much for you. So often we never see things go wrong, it makes UA-cam modellers look like super builders

I have one of those panel scribe hooks too. I hated it so much I bought a set of those cheap panel scribe chisels with the aluminum handle off of Amazon. Much much better and way more control.
When you go off course scribing, a bit of your primer/surfacer dabbed on with a brush is an easy way to fix it and sands way easier than putty or super glue (which is great for big boo-boos)
Save your money and use hardware store lacquer thinner to clean out your airbrush. I use Klean Strip from the Depot, Lacquer thinner for bulk clean up, and a shot of acetone to make sure it's double extra clean. Never had an issue.
A spoon is a great painting companion, way easier to check for mechanical issues as well as compatibility issues during the painting process.
And those files are called needle files. I got my set from the local Harbor Freight but they're available all over the interwebs.
After seeing your vids I'm strongly considering investing in the Tamiya lacquers to compliment my Jump Wind collection. They appear to spray and finish quite well. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

I had the same experience using the tack from Hobby Lobby. I found Gorilla Glue makes a great tack. I purchased mine at Menards.

The Tamiya scriber is ok but I break them easily. I switch to the despie and haven’t looked back. It comes with 5-6 different width blades.

Nice work! Could you give me a link to those cups? I hate the ones that have the measuring lines molded in!

Where do you get your trizack sanding pads from?

  • @chrisw.329

Hey Kreg. Don’t use those scale Motorsport scribers. They suck. The Tamiya scriber blades and scriber tool are hands down the best.
