Dear Xcal, I have been watching you since early 2010. Your nuke on Sub Base video was the first one I ever watched. I used to come home from school and watch the Brolympia live comms every day. Your esoteric and aggressive style had a significant impact on me growing up. While others like Woody and Wings were relentlessly abusing the FAMAS, you were using silly guns and doing very well. On top of this you would live comm entire sessions and not cherry pick games. Thank you for this video. I have been done with CoD for a few years now and find games like CSGO and StarCraft to be more rewarding. Much love, Bruce!
Xcal I’ve been watching you since cod4 days, when I was 14 years old. I always check back in once and a while. Good to hear it. CoD hasn't been the same since BO4, used to run up against you and Sirian with my squad during those days on PC. Been sticking to the single player and co-op games myself since MW2019 dropped and I saw how it was going. Play what makes you happy my man!
I showed your videos to my son when he was 10 or so. He is 22 now. It's a trip. For my money you're the best to ever do it. Thanks for all the years of laughs. I completely zoned out of COD after Ghosts came out, that fucking abomination killed the series for me. The last 10ish years have just been trash game after trash game. It's not even specific to COD itself, most modern FPS games are just terrible, they all fall into the same trap. Bright colours, emotes, dances, 'heroes' as characters, each with specific powers instead of perks or attachments, microtransactions and battle royales. The last few Battlefield games have been decent, if not slightly flawed, but they're basically the only modern FPS games I can stomach.

Your videos really helped me out during the bad days, seeing my sub box light up with a new video from you was a good day. Continue being great, I’ll see you when you stream on twitch.
I feel you Bruce. For those of us that have been playing this franchise for close to two decades, I feel live we've "out-grown" it in some way. I don't think the games now are bad in its core, it's just the people playing it... I can't deal with sweating my nuts off playing with the most broken gun 24/7. I'm passed that point.
Hey Xcal, I found your channel way back when you were making your Arkham Asylum play-through! Loved that series and I binged a ton of your playlists at the time. Really hype to see you are still making content and hope you are doing well.
We need more xcal zombies! I first found you back in mw2 this video really takes me back your old zombies with randoms videos are what got me into zombies
The algorithm is strong with this one judging by the comments. This is the first Xcal video I’ve watched in years, used to watch all the time around 2009 - 2011. Man, maybe I’m just so far removed from the space these days, but it was nice watching an old school commentary vid. Dude sounds exactly the same too lol.

Much love Bruce, been watching you since at least 2009 and my current gamertag everywhere was inspired by you lol. I've felt newer cod's punish you for playing well or with friends too much. I miss the old days of random lobbies forming grudges against each other, it all feels too bland now. There's no more camaraderie or community that can form in random games, and the way games are setup you have to try your balls off if you want to win every game. Here's hoping ME4 is very good and I can snipe joining you in a multiplayer lobby homie
I've been feeling that way for quite awhile. CoD just ain't built for folks like us anymore, Bruce. Good riddance, I say. They don't want to make things that are fun anymore, then I ain't buyin'. Way too many games in a stacked year of gaming to pass all that up to play the festering boil on the ass of the gaming industry that is Call of Duty.
I enjoy modern CoD playing a year or 2 in arears. I still play modern warfare 2019, get nukes, play infected, put up with a few cheaters. Way more fun than launch because of the smaller player base, more sociable lobbies, less sbmm.
I'll always remember that Black Ops video with that guy RawkyBreh and the FAMAS. And the Manliest Combat Record, Zombies with randoms as well as many others. Classic CoD moments.
I think Stephanie Sterling's latest video really hit home about where the games industry in general is going. Ever since 'patches' became a thing, publishers have realised you can release half a game (for full price) & have the devs just fix it in post/add the rest later, & what it's led to over the like, idk, 10 years or so it's been the standard, is games being so undercooked, so undervalued, so 'quantity over quality' that there are now literally publishers devoted to turning over as many broken assets as possible to turn a quick buck whilst barely (& sometimes not even that) making these 'games' passable products. CoD, I think we can all see, is no exception. Think back to BO1. Think about the campaign, that first scene when Mason lights a cigar & we're immediately introduced to 3 strong characters you KNOW are gonna keep you invested. Now think about the menu screen - you could play Zork on the terminal when you get up & walk over. Think about Kino. Think about the multiplayer with its goofy sets, 1 (or 2 with Warlord) attachment per gun, maps that had their own character, &, sure, mechanics that got a little annoying at times (blop-shotting), but think about how simple & complete that multiplayer was. You can TELL the devs WANTED that game to succeed, you can TELL they put real thought into it & wanted to deliver something that was fun. Nowadays, the only thing you can count on being fully fleshed out at launch is the fucking storefront. It was always about money, but the business model has clearly shifted from 'make good product, sell copies' to 'shove as many methods as possible at the consumer to get them to spend', with the 'game' element ABSOLUTELY coming 2nd. Everything else, the terrible aim assist, the engagement-oriented matchmaking, it's about appeasing everyone for the sales, & ultimately appeasing no-one when everyone puts it down after a month. But they got your money. You don't earn them money playing BO1 for a year - you earn them more playing MWIII for a month & caving in to a microtransaction or 2. Publishers never cared about the consumer, but I feel, based on pride & love of gaming, that the devs did. Nowadays, crunch, the threat of layoffs & an insistence on a secure storefront has overrode that passion & we're getting shite all compared to the full products we used to get. Even 4 seasonal DLCs seems like a breath of fresh air now, & I remember them being lambasted back then! Overton window, blah blah blah, rant over. Point is Bruce, it's no surprise you're checking out from it - I think most of your old YT fanbase did years ago. But if you're willing to keep trying to give us a taste of the old days, my GODS we will be there for it. Much love to the decade & a half of entertainment you've provided over the years, glad you're in good health, long may it continue!
I remember the video of you quitting MW3 and thinking yea i could just not play this. No idea why it took that video for me to just say fuck it if I don't like it don't play it. Went back to playing BO1 and enjoyed it a hell of alot more. Always enjoy these types of videos. Cheer Bruce!
I remember one of the first games I watched was “saved by the bell” on Ambush. I just couldn’t believe almost how good COD and commentary fit together. I was hooked. Now, I couldn’t agree with you more on todays franchise. It’s now a Call of Douchebags. Support your decision 100 percent, my man. Peasoup
It's so sad what happened to Call of Duty. I remember the good ol' days when we thought what would be the "CoD killer" and 10 years later the "CoD killer" was corporate greed and not Titanfall 1. The best and most fondest gaming memories I have is MW2 - BO2. Games were fun, all my friends played and YT had great creators like xCal and Sandy. Good times 💔
Yeah at a certain point having more devs on a project is a detriment to me. The games just devolve into a mishmash of compromise with no clear vision or direction, causing bland boring shit games.
I say comeback anyway and bring the pub stomping back. I been watching your videos since age 17, glad you are doing your thing. Laser rage was my favorite.
Tbh if you think about it... how long has other media lasted for 15 years? Playing it now being 15 years older than I was then it's not really the samw cod magic that it had
My last cod game i bought at full price was cold war, and even then i didn't get around to somewhat enjoying it until its last few months of its life. I used to be happy to buy the newest cod game at full price and have years of fun on it, sadly those days are over with unless you find constantly sweating to be fun. Don't even get me started on zombies being worse off than AW zombies.
Sad to say I’m in the same boat. Haven’t purchased a cod since Cold War and I sure as shit ain’t going back. The Finals beta was awesome though! Can’t wait to play the full release!
I'm glad you brought up Apex. I cant think of a better example of aim assist going too far. Like you mentioned, some of the most mechanically talented pro M&K players HAVE to switch to controller in order to stay relevant. It's really sad.
Yeah I can't imagine things like the KSG Torture Shack, or Skorpions anymore. It would be the quickest way to a heart attack. That is what I miss about CoD the most, crazy ass load outs.
Couldn't agree more. Staying away from any new cod. They got me last year and I barely wanted to play that. BO4 was in my eyes the last one fun one, now these cod games are such a grind
the problem is the community not the game. everybody and their mom wants to be the best and make money off of the game. nobody just chills that’s why no one uses non meta things in games.
man. old school zombies gameplay, with just bruce talking about random shit bring me back. nature is healing. also agree about modern cods. from what ive seen its a parody of what it was at this point. last cod game i enjoyed and actually played was BO2. havent touch a cod since.
When mw 2019 was the newest game and the next one was about to come out, my friend asked me if i was getting it. I told him unless there's some major changes I'll probably never buy another cod. He sort of chuckled like i was making a joke but i couldn't have been more serious. I've played cod since the original Black ops and i was beyond burned out. Between me aging and the game changing so much i just couldn't justify buying a game i honestly didn't see enjoying.
Solo players really are the sacrificial lambs in the new matchmaking. You grind out a game, lose, but make it to the end, and your reward is to fill the space on a team from someone who ragequit a game in session where you're down 2x in score and your entire team is negative. I'd say 60% of the time I'm joining in-session games on MW3. Of course there is no mercenary mode either.
What’s the major complaint against modern CoD? Skill based match making or the corporate evil of Activision Blizzard with MW3 basically being a DLC? I can see the latter being a problem. The former just seems like people who were in the top 5% or higher in skill had fun stomping all over lobbies.
Ah it gave me old school live commentary feels. I agree and it's sad for CoD and they got people living in debt paying hundreds of dollars a month on bundles of shit.
yeah I'm with you Xcal, there's no reason for people to be playing like Optic Scumpii in normal matchmaking. It's super frustrating, not surprised COD has been bleeding players for a long time for that exact reason. Not to mention the other countless issues.
Your voice and the WaW sound effects are really taking me back. I discovered the CoD community back in MW2’s heyday when I was 13 years old and I loved your vids. I’m 27 now and expecting my first kid in February. Glad to see you’re still doing your thing

Cod has never been for the hardcore audience. Don't delude yourself. It's always been casual. But it used to be fun and casual.

Inspired me to pick up the game and adapt to your play style. Your videos really helped me out during the bad days, seeing my sub box light up with a new video from you was a good day.
Continue being great, I’ll see you when you stream on twitch.
I checked out of cod after ghost. I’ve just been spectating the destruction since
I hope you make more videos like this where you just say whats on your mind live.
Been watching since 2009 and my fondest memories are of your ME2 and ME3 vids. Glad to see you still posting videos every so often.
Man, it has been far too long my friend. Great hearing you
man i remember binge watching all of your cod vids back in the day, time flies!
Bruce, I've watched your vids since the black ops 1 days. Good to see you all well and kicking! Bless you sir!
Even when cod sucks we can count on xcal to make good content.
I don’t know why my acct was unsubbed from you but yo it has been years since I heard your voice. I just randomly had the urge to look you up, I’m glad to see you are still doing well man. Bro blops4 try 2 I haven’t played Xbox in probably 5 years now
Did this trigger the annual CoD 4 and MW2 Live Commentary Sessions rewatch? Indeed it did 😂
Much love Bruce, been watching you since at least 2009 and my current gamertag everywhere was inspired by you lol. I've felt newer cod's punish you for playing well or with friends too much. I miss the old days of random lobbies forming grudges against each other, it all feels too bland now. There's no more camaraderie or community that can form in random games, and the way games are setup you have to try your balls off if you want to win every game.
Here's hoping ME4 is very good and I can snipe joining you in a multiplayer lobby homie
you will always be favorite to watch CoD throughout the years. Been watching you since your WaW days! Onward, Xcal!
I honestly miss your content. And I miss old CoD. I’m glad it changed your life for the better, and I’m glad you enjoy what you’re doing now.
BlameTruth finally uploaded on his 2nd channel! Good to hear from you Anthony!
I enjoy modern CoD playing a year or 2 in arears. I still play modern warfare 2019, get nukes, play infected, put up with a few cheaters. Way more fun than launch because of the smaller player base, more sociable lobbies, less sbmm.
Pretty surreal watching from the desk of xcal in 2023. Your streams are awesome and it’s a shame cod had to go down this way but it is what it is
I'll always remember that Black Ops video with that guy RawkyBreh and the FAMAS. And the Manliest Combat Record, Zombies with randoms as well as many others. Classic CoD moments.
I’ve been subbed to you for over a decade and it took until now for UA-cam to put you on my home page
Your voice takes me back man. No love lost with CoD. Hopefully the potential new Mass Effect game is worth playing through.
I remember watching your strat on Der reise with the flamethrower trench gun combo
Peasoup
This has been an amazing blast from the past and I missed it more than I can express. We NEED Brolympia!
Good times
💔
Yeah at a certain point having more devs on a project is a detriment to me. The games just devolve into a mishmash of compromise with no clear vision or direction, causing bland boring shit games.
I say comeback anyway and bring the pub stomping back. I been watching your videos since age 17, glad you are doing your thing. Laser rage was my favorite.
The streets won't forget the Olympia Tomahawk gameplays
Glad to have another episode from my favortie series, keep them coming Bruce!
It's really sad.
i been watching u since i was legit 12. 27 now and i still enjoy ur vids the same way i did 15 years ago
Yeah I can't imagine things like the KSG Torture Shack, or Skorpions anymore. It would be the quickest way to a heart attack. That is what I miss about CoD the most, crazy ass load outs.
The worst thing COD did was tailoring the game to the esports, energy drink freaks. COD hasn’t been fun for years
Couldn't agree more.
Xcal playing classic WaW Der Riese is definitely not a video I was expecting to see in 2023 😂
Can't blame you. I gave up after Cold War and I don't miss it one bit.
OG Xcal will always be legendary. Thank you for bringing in a new generation of call of duty fans under your influence. Your'e the goat.
I get so hyped every time you post on this channel lol, CoDs been lame for years now keep doing you Bruce you’re a living legend
All the best Bruce.Gotta play what you enjoy man !
We need the the Golden Era of cod back fr 🔥🔥
COD 4 was a vibe maaaaan I miss the golden age ❤
Visual recoil, visual clutter, unbalanced weapons, bad maps, etc, are things that make modern COD bad.
I stop at black ops, played a little of black ops 3 and less of mw3
Ah it gave me old school live commentary feels. I agree and it's sad for CoD and they got people living in debt paying hundreds of dollars a month on bundles of shit.
Bruce has spoken. High quality as always brother
The reload animation on the 1911 has always felt so crispy in this game
yeah I'm with you Xcal, there's no reason for people to be playing like Optic Scumpii in normal matchmaking. It's super frustrating, not surprised COD has been bleeding players for a long time for that exact reason. Not to mention the other countless issues.
The old days of the akimbo skorpions or the brolympia are long gone. Somewhere out there eminemhugefan shed a tear.
