3 weeks into my new Emonda SL7 and pushing 400 miles. Unlike yourself I’m not craving 30+mph speeds so the weight of the bike is less relevant. Mine came with Aeolus Pro 37 wheels which perform better in every way than the best aluminum rim brake wheels (been through a bunch) so I plan no upgrade there. To me the best surprise about this model is the lively but forgiving behavior of the frame. Did not expect to like a monocoque C F bike this much, was good from mile 1 but gets better every I ride it. Also the SL7 has a mid-compact (52-36) crank which may limit my ability on steep climbs (was this model billed as the ‘climbing’ bike?) which has proven plenty of gear with the 11 tooth cassette. So far happy with every component except the tires. Had Conti GP 4 seasons on it after 50 miles and one crash.
@martymiller4300 That's awesome! That is the bike I wanted but wasn't a huge fan of the colors. I totally agree, I love the feel of the CF frame, so ready to go. The 37s are amazing and should allow you to get moving quickly off the line. The 52 is what I'm needing for speed, for climbing you might want to like at the 50, depending on how hilly your area is. Yeah Contis are a bit hefty, I trade those out for the Bontrager R3s or Pirellis P Zeroes.
They aren't horrible, way better than the alloy wheels, but you can feel the differences between these and the RSLs. Doing the RSLs tubeless, you lose 1.5 lbs
I have an Sl6 emondo. I think its 2021. I live in a very hilly area and am running 28 teeth in the back. would you recommend 32 or 34 for the back gearing? IF so which one and do i need to change out anything other than the chain when i change the cassette? New to riding so anything helps.
Yes, large gear in the back would help a ton! Shimano has the 105 r7000 11 speed 32t that would work. Another huge help for climbing is lighter weight wheels, the lighter you can get those, the easier it is to climb.
Great video and beautiful bike. It took a year and a half ( long story on that ) but recently got the 2023 Emonda SLR 6 with AXS etap. Love the electronic shifting as well and the bike as a whole.
Nice descriptive review. But why is this bike described as a racer, when it’s really an all around bike? And you describe it as a budget bike? This bike starts most likely @5k? You shouldn’t have to upgrade anything. And I’m not knocking you in anyway. Lastly with the 105di shifting can you replace the batteries? Thanks in advance ❤
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes this is Trek's race bike, it's light weight and built to climb. The all around bike would my other bike, Checkpoint. It's a gravel bike but can be ridden on the road. I've commuted on mine for 2 years now and even take it bike packing. Yes it's 5k and that is the middle of the field for road bikes right now. The SL6 Pro is a great get in bike in the middle of the pack cause it's electronic shifting and has carbon wheels. As for the batteries, if it ever needs to be replaced, it can be by our local bike shop.
@@JakebMiller Really appreciate your input. And I see your points! But lastly, are the Di-2 batteries user replaceable? And can they be purchased at a local bike store? That would give me a big boost in confidence if they are. Again thank you
@@JakebMiller Thank you for a quick reply! If you have a chance would you please scale its real weight? As I understand, 18.2 lbs is according to the Trek’s methodology, but we ride those in different conditions (with pedals, bottle cages, etc :)
Super Looking bike and very informative , don’t get am 80mm stem . Change the bars to a shorter reach . The original trek bars have a 100mm reach which is ridiculous and makes it feel much longer
Cool paint job and overall bike, smooth...
Thank you, and thank you for watching!

Awesome, Congrats!! First upgrade, dump the wheels. Merry Christmas from Texas! Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot!Any model you could recommend me?@@JakebMiller
@@JakebMiller The aeolus elite 35 are that bad?

@@JakebMiller Ok i see, thanks for the answer !
Great video. I have the SL6 AXS eTap. Thanks for the tube info, going to buy a set today.
Think I will upgrade the handlebars to carbon for a smoother ride.. thoughts?
Thanks for watching, I've had my carbon bars on for a month now, and I love them! I even have the RSL carbon stem, makes for a smoother ride.
Well,I'm pumped to get my SL7 in a couple of days (Mulsanne Blue/Black). Liking the Sikver /Red. Cheers!
Congratulations and you're going to love it!
Congrats!! I hope you have as much as gun as I do with mine!! Thank you!
thank you for this video, it's very helpful,....but where did you get those stickers up in the front? it looks amazing!
Thanks for watching! I found them on Amazon
I like the P-40 teeth you got on there, the flame head tube red looks great
Thanks!!

Great video. I just got the SL 6 AXS etap. Thanks for the info on the tubes…going to buy a set today.
@fedtax2008 thank you!! Excellent bike! The tubes are pricey but maaaan what a difference!
What is the weight of your build with axs etap
@@Bijits2510 Not sure of exact weight but mine is just shy of 16Lbs.
Looks like a nice bike, here in the UK theres a site selling them for £2,750 which for a carbon bike with di2 and carbon wheels is unbeatable value
How well built though? Warranty? What type of carbon? Key questions when buying a carbon bike.
@@JakebMillerI'm talking about the bike in the video...can buy it new here for the equivalent of $3,300
Oh wow.
lol, I just bought this from Sigma Sports in the UK - I can't wait! Also purchased via a work scheme so cost £2450 in total!
@EverydayAthleteDan that's awesome!! Going to love it! Thanks for watching!

Nice review! Have you had a chance to weight the bike?
Bike comes in at 18.19 lbs. I haven't weighed mine to see what it ways.

No problem. Yeah with my gear on it, maybe 20 lbs but I have moved over lighter wheels, tires and tubeless so it probably still weights about 18 lbs.
@@JakebMiller Thank you very much! Very decent bike :)

there is no stock :( im waiting my bike since march
Oh no. They are getting hard to get. Hopefully soon sir!
