I feel like Shawn has displayed the capacity to learn to stop running from his problems so he's perfectly capable of talking through them.
What healthy relationship the whole scene ignored the fact that she was embarrassed to introduce him to her friends. By him forgiving her

I actually read in a book that autistic men often DO date women who are older. And autistic women tend to date younger men interestingly. I can't find any official data on this, just something I heard
This was a lovely scene. I don't understand why Carly is getting so much hate and comments saying it's all about her. In my opinion that's not the case at all. I think their relationship is great development for both their characters. Of course Shaun's brain is wired differently but in any case, relationships involve compromise and if Shaun wants to have a meaningful relationship he needs to meet her half way in some cases and acknowledge her feelings too. She was extremely mature in this scene and very patient, understanding and didn't try to back out when Shaun called her out on her mistake. She didn't try to blame Shaun or make out that he was paranoid. She realised her mistake, accepted it and apologised sincerely to Shaun. Communication is key and Shaun needs to learn to talk to her if he gets worried or concerned otherwise they won't have a strong relationship. I really like their relationship.

I glad that they both got to apologize to each other for their mistakes in this situation. The way shaun lit up when she said she was his girlfriend was so cute. It was like a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders especially thanks to that nurse who caused him to get scared in the first place.

Finally Shaun and Carly are official.
I recently found out that I have high functioning Autisim and I feel that I connect so well with this because honestly I feel like I will never fit into a group of friends or be able to have a relationship. Life is just awkward
You could try reaching to other high functioning autistic people, see how they've learned to adjust.
You don't always need to be the same as someone to get along. Like puzzle pieces, sometimes you're different but you just fit. Don't give up on other people, some of them might surprise you.
I'd like to say it gets better, and I would be right 50% of the time. I have the traits of high-functioning autism and my brother has been diagnosed. Everything is weird. You won't ever feel like you fit in. But that okay, because you're you. You don't have to fit in to be a part of a group. Just be you, and learn certain social skills. I force myself to stare at eyes when people are talking (and really listen), look away occasionally so I don't intimidate, mimic body movements 5-10 seconds after, continue the conversation, give firm handshakes with eye-contact, etc. It just takes practice, but always be you.

This is 100% me. I really don’t think they are portraying autism that well on this show because it’s not as easy as this for us to get the relationship we dream of as they are making it appear. They just want the lead character to have a love interest because apparently in the mind of television show writers, there needs to be romance and love to make the show interesting. But if they’re going to make it about autism, at least do it right and show that it isn’t as easy as this for us to find the girl/boy of our dreams. It’s just heartbreak after heartbreak after heartbreak for me with no happiness

There's a continuity slip in this shot. Shaun puts down his bag and jacket then asked Carly the question. Then when they cut back to her for her reply, you see he has the jacket in his hand. Then when they cut back to him, he isn't holding the jacket. Script supervisor missed it.

@@jessycac6311 And yet TV productions with their right budgets care enough to hire someone whose job it is to catch these things because if enough of them get through the final cut it will snap the viewers out of the story and they will become aware of the nuts and bolts of the production its self.

Shaun was able to turn this entire conversation around. Carly was kinda in the right at the beginning, but Shaun, he made me sympathize with him more then Carly in the end.
