Man I spent so much time trying to figure out how to export in Optimized/Original and FCP docs weren't helpful. Thanks for doing this one! Massive help.
Amazing! Thank you! Finally a good, simple, and quick explanation.
Glad you liked it!
This told me everything I needed to know, thank you so much. Well done and keep up the good work !!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much! Clear and concise explaination! And I like the way you also add example to explain the concept so that it makes it easier to understand when to use proxy/optimised video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much!! Appreciate all your content 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Happy to help!
Very clear and concise - thank you. My question is this: once I'm done editing and my project is done, is there any reason to hold onto the optimized and/or proxy media on my drive? I've currently got about a Tb of that stuff taking up space. Delete it?
yeah definitely delete them. Check this video here to see the process: ua-cam.com/video/8mkGsGDnKFg/v-deo.html
MY guy! Incredible, great short easy but HELPFUL video. Thanks brother!
Glad you liked it!!

This was super helpful! Great explanation! Subbed for future videos
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for your informations man ! Its very good demonstration.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just watched this and I love the color on your video. Hard to believe it's from a Sony camera. I would have guessed a black magic pocket. I'm about to go through your cooler grading videos!
I appreciate that. I need to do an update color grading video for these UA-cam videos. Some of the Color Correction videos show most of the process: ua-cam.com/play/PLuSgxffTueqWM2Z6Vnecf9hVR8c_Ra-Ev.html
Other main thing is to nail exposure and white balance.
Very helpful video. Thanks you so much!
You're very welcome!
Great video. Subbed.

Very helpful. Thanks mate!
Great explanation! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Bro you’re amazing!!! Thank you so much. You break it down very nicely!
Glad it helped!
Thanks, simple and easy presentation, making it easy to understand.
Glad it was helpful!
Dude best explanation!
🙏🏾
helpful thanks

My new camera is 4k (I’m use to HD). I was having so much trouble editing it was glitching and when I would try to export it I would get an error in Final Cut Pro after that said “Error: RequestCVPixelBuffetForFrame returned: 3 for absolute frame: 95162”… I got this error message twice before doing research and eventually finding your video. I already imported the footage and edited it on my timeline. So now I’m doing the second option from your video which is selecting the clips and transcoding the media to proxy. Hopefully the footage on that’s currently on the timeline isn’t glitchy after ? I wonder if I’ll have to re-edit the entire UA-cam video 😢
You probably won't have to re-edit
Subscribed 😍 thnks for all the free infos 🙏🏿❤️
Awesome! Thank you!
thanks :)
Thank you mate… you’ve helped me loads.
Does choosing proxy or optimize onky used suring editing? Or they affect the final project resolution
Yes only during edit. Final project uses actual files for full resolution
Great video by the way but I would watch your audio it sounds like it's peaking and a little distorted
Sorry about that. Levels were a little too hot. Struggles of a solo creator lol
What to do when i export? Does it affect the quality when exporting or do i have to transcode it back to optimized before exporting
No you don't have to do anything. When it's time to export FCP will use the original files for max quality. Proxy and optimized is only for editing.
Excellent and ty..
👊🏾
Thanks for that! Few questions here. First, once I'm done with the project and want to archive it without deleting anything in case I was to reopen it in the future, can I still delete the optimized media file and re-generate it if needed later?
Also, im shooting with an a7s3 in H264, will the color grading lose in quality if I don't optimize media or is it just going to look less good in the timeline but just fine for the export?
Thank you!
Hi thanks for watching.
Yes you definitely want to delete all your render files before archiving to make your files as small as possible. It won't affect your projects. You can see a video I did on that here: ua-cam.com/video/8mkGsGDnKFg/v-deo.html
Optimize and Proxy media are only used for editing. When you export your final video, the original files are used.
@@CreativeTechLab that’s super helpful, thanks man!
One more thing, I don’t import my files in the library, just have them in a separate folder. Is there a way, once a project is finished, to have all the footage unused for the project automatically deleted or do I have to do it manually?
Easy to understand and to the point. Thanks 👍🏻
You're welcome!
thanks bro, helped alot!
Glad it helped!
Hi, great video! Just one question, i add optimized media and proxy. once when i finish editing and i want to export video, do i need to change something or i leave just like that?
No. Once you're ready to export Final Cut will use the original files to give the highest quality. Optimized and proxy files are only for editing.
Incredibly helpful ! Thank you!
You're very welcome!
noice, thanks for the explanation.
Happy to help
thankyou bro!
👊🏾
When you opt to use proxy/optimize for editing does this alter the way your video will export?
No. Exported videos use the original files
@@CreativeTechLab awesome thanks!
Thanks!
No problem!
Does this alter quality if you export as proxy and not optimized?
Your final video export quality will always be from the original files. Proxy or optimized files are only used for editing.
@@CreativeTechLab thank youuu! Something is taking away my full sharpness in Final Cut vs when I export on da Vinci
Thanks for this. What if when I try to transcode an angle, there's no option to choose proxy? The choices are greyed out and I can't do anything. Right now I have proxy preferred, but when I click only proxy, my files go missing.
Are you transcoding on import? Or just on a clip by clip basis?
@@CreativeTechLab Clip by clip basis. But it's resolved thank you!
So helpful, thank you! 🙏
Glad you found it helpful!
If I do my rough edit with proxies, do I have to switch back to optimized media when I export? Or does it do it automatically?
It will automatically render the final video from the original files.
@@CreativeTechLab thank you!
Excellent and to the point!! can you share how I can upload the footage to an external HD when importing files as opposed to importing onto computers hard drive ? thanks
Adam
Thanks for watching, glad u found it helpful. There's two ways to do this:
1. You can move the files from your SD card to the external hard drive. Then once it's copied, import the files into your new library and event. And when you do, select 'leave files in place'. That way the files stay on the external hard drive and not into the new library.
2. You could also create the library on the external hard drive. And then when you u import media into your events it will all be on the external drive and not on your internal drive.
Both kind of do the same thing. I also just did a video on Final Cut Organization if you want to take a look at that also: ua-cam.com/video/cRUKdOZ3W4g/v-deo.html
@@CreativeTechLab grateful 🙏
If I'm creating proxies and want to create multi clips for my 3 external audio tracks (3 lavaliers and a boom), what's the best workflow for creating the multi clips? Do I multi clip the proxies? Do I multi clip the original media? Does it matter?
I think once you create proxies for the original files youd should be fine. Then you would create the multiclip after the proxies are made.
While doing this, is there a way to make sure it doesn’t eat up hard drive space? I had it so that it “leaves files in place” but I have an external drive and it STILL put everything on my laptop’s internal memory.
Check this video here: ua-cam.com/video/8mkGsGDnKFg/v-deo.html
Can you still export in 4K if you check off proxy media and not Optimized?
Yes. It won’t affect the final video.
Great clear description, really helpful, thanks 👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I just tried to create my first set of Proxy Files for editing 4K footage. Two clips were at 5% in the transcoding task, I spent about an hour waiting and no progress was made. I decided to quit the app and restart. Now the tasks are gone and no proxies exist.
The clips seems to play back fine though. I’m on a MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 16gb ram.
I don’t want to get started and realize it is running too hot and run into issues. What do you think?
I'm not sure what camera brand your files are from. But honestly, with the newer M1 macs I don't think you'll need to do proxy or optimized files. The machine is so powerful it can handle 99.9% of footage with no issues.
@@CreativeTechLab These are from a Canon 1DXii, mjpeg files and a DJI Air2S. I created a 1 minute reel with a lot of chopping, a vertical video with 3 images stacked almost the whole duration. It performed well! We’ll see how an actual project performs compared to the sneak peek
Hi, Maybe you can help me. From I bought MacBook Pro M1 (16 gb + 1 tb) I had have problems with my Sony A7SIII files. When I am working or sharing it's say "There is no memory" (is not a space problem, it's about RAM). From Final Cut Pro department can't find why, they supposed it's something of my camera but they don't give me a solution. Do you know how Can I change codecs into my camera? Because the only solution that I found is working with all "transcode media" (imagine all the space that I am using). Thanks
Hi take a look at this video and see if it helps: studio.ua-cam.com/users/video6qHkvvc8UOY/edit. I also have an updated version of it coming out. But if you have a M1 mac, I don't think you need to transcode the files. I shoot the most compressed codecs on my A7siii and my computer still handles them just fine.
💯
👊🏾
Are optimized media used for final export? Or does it still use the original files?
No your orignal files will be used for the final export.
@@CreativeTechLab Thank you. Very helpful information. Thanks for the video.
Can I edit 4K footage on a 2015 MacBook Pro in a lower res, and then export direct to UA-cam in 4K?
Yep. In that case proxies would be best
Nice work! Does the library make another exact duplicate of the original media; in other. Words; does it double the amount of space use on your computer/? Thank you!
For optimized media it's not an exact duplicate, but the files are still pretty large. For proxy media the files are a lot smaller. But overall you'll still need additional space for either format.
However I find the new m1 macs don't need proxy or optimized media to edit/playback compressed files.
cheeeeers !
Big up 👊🏾
4K this, 6K that... haha, made me laugh.
🤣
super helpful, thanks!
