    Thanks, this video helped a lot! I've seen several other videos stating to create proxy files and to "sub them out for the original before exporting" but never explained switching back to original media playback and letting it re render before exporting was how. I thought I was going to have to move clips in the timeline or something but it's much more simple!

      Good morning [it is morning here in India] Andrews. Thanks for these helps and tips. I would like to share this tip [in case you do not know about it]: option-shift 1 allows the video/audio to be selected; option-shift 2 selects the video only; while option-shift 3 selects the audio only. This feature is comparable to shift-1, 2 and 3 that is used for selecting which clip from the browser has to be added to the timeline: audio cum video, video alone or audio alone. I think I was able to find out this tip by trial and error! Hope this tip is shared by you in your superb videos in case you haven't yet informed this tip to your viewers/subscribers. @@andrewsaraceni Of course! I'm going to check out your other vids on 'saving space'. I just got a Sony A74 and upgraded to a MacBook Pro with the M1. Still, I've already used a ton of space just with the few vids I've done. I'd love to see a video about how you work in FCP, mainly from an 'organization' standpoint. Do you work from external drives? The main HD? How you label folders, etc to stay organized, save on space, etc. How you start a library/project, etc. That would be awesome. Again....thanks!

If I'm doing proxies, I'm usually editing/writing them to the main HD (same with the overall library), but will clear them all out and relocate the library to an external drive once I'm done with the video. My video on space/render files should definitely provide some more insight there.

    thanks! greatly helped - one other question - once you'd made the proxy for that 4k 60fps video, it then shows as 24fps in the timeline, which is in-line with the project settings i assume - but, if you then edit "speed" to 50%, will it process that through the new 24fps proxy or through the original 60fps file to make the slo-mo smooth?
    I just tried it with one of my 60fps videos and it seems a bit jerky, i can't work out if that's what is happening - and if it is only using the 24fps clip and dropping frames when slowing, will that still be the case when it's exported?
    thanks :)

    • @andrewsaraceni
      @andrewsaraceni  Рік тому

      No problem! The proxy file would still be 60fps, but it keeps the timeline frame rate in mind when editing. There's actually a method/formula for properly slowing down footage - i.e. based on your in camera and timeline frame rates. You'd usually want to use 40% for 60fps footage in a 24fps timeline. I talk more about this here: ua-cam.com/video/XanwiEOg68I/v-deo.html

    • @andrewsaraceni
      @andrewsaraceni  5 місяців тому +1

      Proxies would help for sure, but I'd say you're definitely in need of an upgrade. There's a huge performance difference between older Intel MacBook Pros vs. the new M1, M2, M3 models. 4K was barely in use when that model was released, so not surprised it's having trouble.

    Hello Andrew, I'm just a complete beginner that just started using FCP and I have a question. Hope you can help me with this.
    I'm using my Sony A1 for video (just started) and for some reason FCP (Ver 10.5.4) does not open or does not recognize those files (XAVC). Somehow they seem to be incompatible. My computer is running OS Catalina 10.15.7.
    I have a previous FCP version 10.3.4 (in a different computer OS High Sierra 10.13.6) that open those files without a problem but that version of FCP ( apparently very old or I don't know how) does not let me import luts or any other "boosters" for my flat footage. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

      @andrewsaraceni  5 місяців тому

      I would really recommend upgrading your version of macOS and/or FCPX to the latest if you can (curious what HW specs, generation your Mac is). You're on borrowed time running now-unsupported versions of that software, and truthfully it should work, so these might just be anomalies, bugs, etc. that were later cleared up, or limitations of older versions. I can confirm all codecs play back, render fine on the latest macOS/FCPX versions.
