Glad to see you also enjoyed the game! It was surprisingly good to say the least! Especially the epicness of most boss fights, which was a true highlight for me! I'm really looking forward to see what these devs do next. I'll also check out their documentary, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Yes, it was one of the biggest surprises of this year so far! It's my pleasure, I love getting more backstory about the developement of games and this one didn't disappoint!
The game looks great, I'm so tied up with my backlog to be taking on any new games right now but I must say your review makes it hard to pass up. Love your work, thank you
Ah that's a shame, but I agree, the Magma boss was really tedious and time consuming.. You can manipulate his stomp attack by standing on the far left or far right of your screen though
I'm not a big 2.5D fan so wasn't gonna pick this up but looked at the steam page for this anyway. The models looked really cheap, and it felt like a mobile game. However hearing your review and that it's quite short made me add it to the wishlist. I'll update you once i've played it :)
@@GamingwithJoy15 I beat this yesterday in 8 hours and i was very dissapointed to say the least. Both you and soulsborne seeker were pretty positive about this game, and initially i sorta liked it. But something felt off, the janky animations and the slight delay when you turn around during platforming made it feel clunky. However the constant crowd control drove me nuts. Everything stuns you in this game, and i hated it. I hate crowd control in most games where it is necesary for balance (like overwatch or league of legends) but a sidescroller does NOT NEED CC. When the magma and green giant bosses came i started hating the game as they could cc you into a oneshot death pit. They were also just so boring and spongey, especially the green giant gorilla which was just a dps check before you ran out of platforms. I did like the mecha bird and shadow spider but all other bosses were very mediocre. The game wasn't challenging but everything was too tanky especially bosses (except the ice golem which i DELETED with my flame thrower, and the mecha spider which was also suprisingly squishy). The story was bad (what was this ai that suddenly shows up at the end? What happened on earth that killed humans there and who is this charlie they kept talking about?) The voice acting was sometimes a bit cringey like the macho security guy or that fake crying girl. I also didn't like the level design as everything felt super basic and relied on death pits or lava. The music and visuals were suprisingly decent though so it didn't look as bad as i thought, but not enough to alleviate the annoying CC spammed gameplay, lackluster level design & story. Definately in my top 10 most dissapointing metroidvania's so far i think. Not the worst one, that's definately monster boy and the cursed kingdom or rebel transmute but still pretty bad. I'm playing skelethrone now though which i'm absolutely loving as a super solid soulslike game that's kind of challenging but not brutally so. With a gritty art style and suprisingly good music
Maybe my expectations were lower than yours, because while I still agree with all your complaints, I can't call it a bad game. Yes, many animations are janky, only a few bosses are enjoyable to fight against and the enemy A.I. needs some improvement, but I didn't come across these crowd controls issues you've mentioned for example. The only CC moments I've encountered where these stun animations, but I had no problems with it during boss fights. About the story, I admit the story of a metroidvania game is just a sideshow to me, I really hate it when it interrupts the gameplay too often, so I don't really mind a badly written or nonsensical story in a metroidvania as long as it doesn't break the flow of the game, but I'd still prefer a good story of course. 😅 And about the level design, I still think there are quite some moments that are really inventive, like these tense escape sequences and the look of some of your abilities, so that's why I can't be too negative about the overall level design. I'd rather have a game that tries to take some risks than a game that plays it safe, but just makes it a bland experience. So that's why this game still managed to impress me with some of its aspects, but it's nowhere near one of my favorite metroidvanias though. I'm sorry it didn't live up to your expectations and that partly my review gave you a wrong impression about this game, but I still agree with everything I said in this review. Thanks for giving it a try though and I really appreciate your honesty. Let's hope all the other games you are going to play won't be disappointing! 💪🤞
Hey there, Joy. This reminds me of a game that came out years ago, that had this look and esthetic; one I havent heard many talk about...I forget what its called sadly. I'll have to check this one out, I dont mind how it looks. Have you checked out a game called Frontier Hunter: Erza's Wheel of Fortune? It's one I quite enjoy, recently it got a graphical/art change and the combat imo, feels really good to do/chain together, wondering if you got a chance to try it recently
Glad you are going to give it a try, I hope it will be right up your alley! It's on my wishlist, but I didn't play it yet. Does it have creative level design and some fun movement based abilities by any chance? It looks really combat-heavy after watching some footage, so that's why I'm asking 😅 Anyways, I will give it a try later this year probably
Hi Joy! Thank you so much for playing! And thank you for your review, for supporting our work and for helping the gaming community!
Any time! Thanks for collaborating with me! ☺

Thanks for the compliment, trik. It means a lot! 😊
2:16 V-bagging 😆
Haha I couldn't help myself 😅
I am calling it quits with this game during the Magma boss. So tedious! I found everything I've played quite janky and unfinished seeming.

I hope it's going to surprise you as well, but I understand the janky animations can put some people off 😅
