My husband and I test drove the RAV4, CRV and the Rogue. Rogue was the clear winner for us and I’m a Honda girl so we were surprised. The RAV4 was comfortable but just too small. We felt like we were on top of each other and the doors were too close. We aren’t big people. We are tall and so are our kids. The kiddos legs had NO ROOM in the back. Hard pass. Loved driving the CRV, plenty of room but the seats felt like concrete so another hard pass. We couldn’t be happier with the Rogue. The driving experience is definitely more luxurious than the others. Reliability? Only time will tell… hoping for the best. I know they have a bad rap but then I also know many people with Nissans and not a single one has had an issue.
I used both Rogue and RAV4 and I liked both for different reasons. 2023 Rogue is definitely a good car with reasonably good power and it gives good mpgs as well. Nissan drastically improved their CVTs and mostly there won't be any issues with regular maintenance. Change the transmission oil for every 25-30k miles.
@@Gopinathk17, currently having issues with a gas smell while idle and in the garage. Had a hose changed which has been a great fix for most but not me and a few others. It helped but definitely wasn’t a fix. They are working on it so we are hoping for something soon. Fingers crossed.

Of the gas versions, I give the RAV4 the edge. They're very close in a lot of the comparisons, but the reliability of the RAV4's 2.5 4-banger over the smaller turbocharged Rogue puts the RAV4 over the top. Personally, I'd go with the hybrid, which would push it even higher. I also find the Toyota instrument/button layout more intuitive for my tastes.
I agreed with Consumer Reports, the Rogue gas is way superior to the outdated Rav4 gas. Rav4 hybrids after the refresh will likely be a nice option, but for now there's a reason the Rogue scored so much higher, and ditto on Motortrend scoring the Rogue so much higher. But some people trust the name Rav4 just based on decades of reputation rather than the actual car.
@@BoopSnootThat's a big gamble when you're spending your hard earned money. I'll stick with years of proven reliability. Nissan needs to get away from the Renault umbrella and start making real Nissans again.

I was comparing the two before I bought the Rogue in summer. One of the biggest deciding factor was the second row seat. The Rogue is more comfortable than the RAV4. The interior in overal was better as well. The ride quality on the RAV4 is a bit rough, and the engine is loud. The Rogue is much more refined on this.
We started looking for a new vehicle this last Monday. We had talked about the Toyota and some of the reviews made comments about the newer ones being tinny. Then we looked hard at the Mitsubishi Outlander which we liked. It seemed simpler. But then the dealer told me he could do a really good deal on the Nissan! Now in 73 cars we’ve never owned a Nissan so this is new for us. But so far we love it.
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima (19 years old, over 220,000 km) that has been an excellent vehicle for me. I have wanted to purchase the Rogue for at least 5 years, but a new vehicle is out of my reach. My first car in the early 70’s was a Toyota Corolla, which was great - really liked Toyotas. But, somewhere along the line, I’ve discovered Nissan and it has never failed me. My choice ….. Nissan ROGUE. Thank you for your excellent comparison.
Every car is shiny, sparkling and reliable when new. How they will be in 10 years should be considered when buying them. Maybe you can squeeze a few thousand extra kms from the brakes of that RAV4. Maybe you won't have to change the transmission fluid, shocks, bushings and engine mounts that often. It's those little things that make the difference.
Not with the Nissan either, and I don't think a buyer of a Rav4 will keep it for 10 years, anyway, the Rav4 also has its problems, they are not indestructible vehicles.
My wife's 2021 RAV4 XLE Premium AWD is at the dealership getting a new charcoal canister after an incident with running over a deer. Now we have a 24 Rogue SV AWD as a rental. Resell isn't that different in 10yrs. 4yr old rav4 is $4k more than a 2yr old rogue. Example 2020 rav4 w/ 50k miles - $24-26k +10yrs The 14y/o rav4 will have approx 150k miles and be worth $6k-7k A 22rogue with 40k miles -$20-22k +10yrs The 12y/o rogue with 150k miles will be worth $4500-$5500 Both depreciate down to about $2-3k of each other with the rav4 being worth more but the starting point of a rav4 is also about $4k more. Rogue saves in gas but possibly cost more in maintenance. Tough choice
These were both in my potential buy options back in 21 but I ended up going subaru. If forced between these two, the rogue is fine but I just can't help but go for the rav4 primarily because of the difference in overall reputation between the two companies
Tell that to the people with the class action lawsuits from engine failures from sludge problems from 1997-2003 and the people who have had the engines burning oil from 2006-2018 or the people with the new turbo V6 that’s throwing rods at 25k.
Rav4 all day long and twice on Sundays best selling SUV in USA for a reason, best resell value and most reliable car in the market,, no cvt and no turbo engine what else can you ask for it... 💪
If it’s ready the most reliable car on the market why are you concerned with resale. Toyota is not more reliable than Nissan, it’s a fact. Mechanic logs show that Toyota cost more to maintain, and owners spend more every year on Toyota repairs even with Nissans cvt problems from years ago. I own a repair shop, and I’m not the only mechanic who shows records like this. There are a few on UA-cam who report it too. It’s just hearsay that Toyota is more reliable than Nissan.

My 2007 Nissan Altima is on its way out so I'm now looking at getting one of these. Thanks for your overview. I'll see about test drives next week. Wish me luck...
An alternative to the Rogue is the Mitsubishi Outlander..It's the sister to the Rogue and shares the same platform. However, it has the naturally aspirated 2.5 4 cyl engine used in prior year rogues. It's a bit slower off the line but some consider it more reliable..plus the Outlander is made in Japan and has a gorgeous quiet interior.
I have a RAV4 2016 not a problem, but dealers' purchase transaction "HELL" on earth. I have three Rogue and purchased transactions easy not many problems.
This was my decision, and I was trying hard to get the rav4 for my wife. But they are very popular and were very inflexible . I got the rogue s for a huge discount brand new and for much less than the rav4.
If your intention is to keep your vehicle a long time, Rav4 is my choice, mainly because of its 2.5's engine reputation, the 8 speed transmission, and the timing chain. The Rogue has a timing belt, and a CVT transmission (basically a belt). Nissan do offer more electronic gizmos, but those gizmos don't make the vehicle trouble free or last any longer. Toyota will get you there reliably, for a VERY long time.
I'm curious if you have noticed the Rogue's turbo having a annoying low grade spinning/grinding/whining sound that shows up between 15-45 mph and more specifically when the car is coasting (foot pressure removed from accelerator pedal)? I bought a 2023 Platinum AWD. I love the car, in general. But I did not hear that awful low grade high pitched grinding whistle before i took the car home. I only noticed at after I had a chance to drive it around town by myself. I took it to the dealer and they tested another one they had there that was just delivered from the factory. It had the same characteristic. I was told it was a characteristic of the turbo design and it was not defective. I'm wondering how many owners of the 2022/2023 version (those are the years with the newer turbo charged engine) have noticed this too? Or if anyone doing reviews has noticed it? The solution is to have music playing all the time, then you don't hear it. Also above 40-45 mpg or on the highway, it's not noticable because of the road and wind noise being louder than the turbo whine.
@@markpelzer725 Even when you have let your foot off the gas? This seems to "whine" related to speed. Faster it goes the higher the pitch. Doesn't seem related to engine RPM.
I love both SUVs 🚙, I love the Rogue for the styling and the technology and the RAV4 for the quality/reliability. I looked at the Tiguan, the CX-5, the Tucson and the CR-V. The CR-V handling was kind of lackluster, the Tiguan the maintenance would be too expensive for me but drove like an Audi and the Tucson was a very smooth ride but the resale value would be not so good along with getting bored 🥱 with it after 3-5 years. The Rogue has impeccable performance, handling and great styling. The RAV4 has the Lexus like handling and some pretty good safety features along with the reliability. I wanted the Rogue but the RAV4 would be more reliable as I heard bad reviews on the Rogue. My final decision is going to be the RAV4 Limited or Lexus NX250 Premium. The CX-5 is a great choice with great performance, reliability and handling along with safety features that are great but it is too cramped for me.
Why not use the Base Models ? Both should have been White in color. I've leased several RAV4's. I woulh have leased another but 2004 very hard to get . NISSAN ROGUE had 0% financing for 2 yr, Lease. Only had the ROGUE since Feb. So far I like it !
Going to be selling our old faithful 2013 Subaru Outback limited, and either get another Outback or a Rogue Platinum . We test drove both. 2024 Rogue has some nice changes over the 2023.
I’d definitely choose RAV4 over the Nissan here, I like the 2.5 over the 1.5, and could put a turbo on that if you wanted still. Also I do prefer the design of it and the clearance is technically better for the RAV4. I did a lot of looking around before getting my last car, and did get a RAV4, albeit the 2022. I love it and wouldn’t want to change it out for anything really. That said, the fact the Nissan Seats fold down all the way, and that cool storage area under the center console were super rad and I’d love to see those implemented into the RAV. Overall though, I’d say they’re both pretty cool, but final decision considerations I’d be looking into would be the reputation and reliability and at least when I looked into it: The Toyota RAV4 Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 3rd out of 26 for compact SUVs, and The Nissan Rogue Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 13th out of 26 for compact SUVs.
Looks goes to Rogue. Rav 4 was cool 6 years back Now, I’d prefer the 2.5 hybrid over the Rogue’s 3 cylinder. Id entertain Leasing the Rogue but I wouldnt want to keep a unique engine long term
What I understood after reading the comments from most of the reviews is..though RAV4 and CRV are the best selling cars but still Rogue and CX5 have a separate fan bases and they like those cars so much for their own reasons 😊
Overall better off with the rav 4 because it’s a regular transmission 😮 Nissan has a lot of problems with their cvt transmission. I worked for yellow freight and we had the contract for Nissan and Toyota picking up defective transmissions. I would go to Nissan and some days pick up 10 to 40 transmissions. Toyota would have about one 1️⃣ 😊
Rogue for sure. Tall families fit better in the Rogue. No leg room for my 6’2 boys and 5’10 daughter especially when seated behind their 6’3 father. The front seat is between their knees which could be dangerous in an accident, in my opinion. Not to mention how uncomfortable the ride will be.
Im torn.. I love the look and features of the Rogue but the reliability and longevity of the RAV4. In context, I can easily put 100000 miles on it within a few years.
Unfortunately Nissan has lost so much ground since the 70’s. I don’t see them ever catching up again. Long term not many Nissan vehicles keep high values like a Toyota does. The 240Z & Roadster days of the 60’s & 70’s are long gone.
You buy the Toyota, always. The Nissan is alright, but then you still buy the Toyota. Better resale, better reliability, better designed and engineered. You get the Nissan because you inherited it! 😅
I would pick Rogue if not for the recent class action lawsuit. This new engine seems to have some problems with gas smell/oil dilution. Hopefully, Nissan will do something about it quickly and I will be able to change my mind.
all the lawsuits are 2018 and older just be nice to your cvt and it will be nice to you. And I have NO relationship to Nissan whatsoever. I just googled when I read your comment.
This is true. My 2023 Platinum Rogue has a gas smell. There was a hose change that was supposed to be a fix. The smell while idle is gone but in the garage is not. It is much less but still there. Apparently they are still working on it as they know it doesn’t help all Rogues so I’m still hoping. Fingers crossed because I LOVE it.
The only problem that I found with the Rogue is..handling is not good especially while maneuvering and the body rolling makes it uncomfortable and non-confident otherwise it's a fantastic car.
The Rogue is obviously better overall but Toyota is much better at marketing and protecting their brand, giving people the impression their vehicles are more reliable.
@@fallguy4209 ...a lot, actually. While Nissan has had their ups and downs with CVT, prior to the CVT era, their cars were every bit as reliable. Both depreciate down to about $2-3k of each other with the rav4 being worth more but the starting point of a rav4 is also about $4k more. Rogue saves in gas but possibly cost more in maintenance.
Tough choice
Love the Rouge ❤
I love Toyota but I like the ride on the Nissan better
The Rav4 is LOUD inside. It feels like a child's toy. Rogue has the better engine and interior.
Better engine 😅 stay a way from Cvt and turbo engines take my word I learned the hard way...
These were both in my potential buy options back in 21 but I ended up going subaru. If forced between these two, the rogue is fine but I just can't help but go for the rav4 primarily because of the difference in overall reputation between the two companies
Toyota all day, they stand behind their vehicles
Tell that to the people with the class action lawsuits from engine failures from sludge problems from 1997-2003 and the people who have had the engines burning oil from 2006-2018 or the people with the new turbo V6 that’s throwing rods at 25k.
They dont even compare anymore. The crv and rogue are the finest options.
@donrandle8999 you're wrong. Toyota/Lexus is #1 in reliability. Nissan is not even on the top 10 lol
Rogue for one or two years. The RAV4 if you want something reliable after that.
One or two years? At least be honest and make some sense.
GREAT INFORMATIVE VIDEO IVE EVER SEEN ON HERE REGARDING THESE VEHICLES! U did not leave anything out!! Thankyou! U actually helped me to decide. And I decided I’m going to go with the Nissan rogue. I was never a rav4 kinda gal anyways btw your HILARIOUS I love your funny clever musical humor
Rogue!!
Jeff's personality always makes my day. I love watching this dude's vids. 1 point Miyagi Do lmao
My wife has a rav 4 2022, my daughter also 2022. Both limited, but both came with different options. This is what tics me coff about toyota/lexus. When you ask for top of the line you expect FULL OPTIONS !!! but not with toyota/lexus. I own a hyundai limited. Full options !!! Remote start, blue link with remote start with 4 options for the different seasons. We take my car 90 % of the time !!! Better ride, smart park, not even close !!!
Nissan, like Kia Hyundai has Slick interior but comes up short on the drivetrain.
The Rogue with a 3 cylinder turbo engine and cvt transmission, I expect the Toyota will have better long term reliability.
Not
My 2007 Nissan Altima is on its way out so I'm now looking at getting one of these. Thanks for your overview. I'll see about test drives next week. Wish me luck...
rogue my love
An alternative to the Rogue is the Mitsubishi Outlander..It's the sister to the Rogue and shares the same platform. However, it has the naturally aspirated 2.5 4 cyl engine used in prior year rogues. It's a bit slower off the line but some consider it more reliable..plus the Outlander is made in Japan and has a gorgeous quiet interior.
Really wish more car makers put a power passenger seat in mid-trim levels
I have a RAV4 2016 not a problem, but dealers' purchase transaction "HELL" on earth. I have three Rogue and purchased transactions easy not many problems.
Thanks for the video! My heart would go for the Rogue but my brain would go for the RAV4 despite its flaws.
Good thoughts thank you!
Me too ❤
This was my decision, and I was trying hard to get the rav4 for my wife. But they are very popular and were very inflexible . I got the rogue s for a huge discount brand new and for much less than the rav4.
How the rogue been treating you??
@@felixmendozarodriguez1189 it’s drives smooth and back seat space is enormous. She also gets 31 combined mpg with 95% city driving.
The rav4's interior looks chunky. I like the rogue overall
Rav4, definitely.
I like how you consider these being "small SUVs" :). In Europe this Rogue (Xtrail) is the biggest Nissan you can buy.
Yeah isn’t that weird how vehicle size is so different between countries
Europe's Xtrail is 3row SUV right?
Yes, if you want to buy this option. But the 2 extra seats are only for kids. No legs room for adults.
Everyone always says Toyota has the best engines, but I’ve never been a fan on how Toyota cars look…
It's normal for turbochargers to make a whirring/whining sound. The vehicle could probably use some better sound insulation.
Turbos whine
@@markpelzer725 Even when you have let your foot off the gas? This seems to "whine" related to speed. Faster it goes the higher the pitch. Doesn't seem related to engine RPM.
Thanks for doing this comparison. I wonder if you can do a review of the latest Toyota Corolla Cross?
Yep I can do that for you next week for sure!
I own a 2023 rogue and my wife owns the 2023 rav 4. Ibwould say that Rav is a little coatful for what you get. Both reliable though.
My ADHD has the same energy level as your ADHD and so I watched a 27 minute video and it wasn't horrible and I subscribed.
Definitely roque i got 2023 midnight edition i love it
Why not use the Base Models ? Both should have been White in color. I've leased several RAV4's. I woulh have leased another but 2004 very hard to get . NISSAN ROGUE had 0% financing for 2 yr, Lease. Only had the ROGUE since Feb. So far I like it !
Going to be selling our old faithful 2013 Subaru Outback limited, and either get another Outback or a Rogue Platinum . We test drove both. 2024 Rogue has some nice changes over the 2023.
This guy is so much fun 💪
Go for Rav4! I used to have driving the nissan and once day when I was driving on road the molding body was dropped off ! It was ridiculous!
I see this after I bought it! I certainly hope the 2023 Nissan Rogue has improved!
@@deannacox6434don't listen to clowns the Rouge is nicer and drives way better than the rough riding Rav4.
According to which rating source? Who rated those cars?
Good comparision, i gots the plats with 1.5T and its so fully loaded feature's don't think the Rav can even compare on that trim level.
Looks goes to Rogue. Rav 4 was cool 6 years back
Now, I’d prefer the 2.5 hybrid over the Rogue’s 3 cylinder. Id entertain Leasing the Rogue but I wouldnt want to keep a unique engine long term
I like how the Rogue looks both exterior & interior. But I like RAV4’s engine better.
Nissan rogue ❤
Jeff, will you do a comparison between the 2024 RAV4 and the 2024 Venza Limited??
Oh that’s an interesting one. I wonder when the 2024 will start showing up at dealers
Rav4 will last 10 yrs problem free
Like the dance. Good information
Rogue by far !!!
What I understood after reading the comments from most of the reviews is..though RAV4 and CRV are the best selling cars but still Rogue and CX5 have a separate fan bases and they like those cars so much for their own reasons 😊
Cant stand Toyota's vehicle designs. Style i like Nissan, but overall Totota has higher quality. However Scotty Kilmer says these new Rav4s are crap.
You don't want a turbo or CVT transmission. Both will bring you trouble. The Toyota will outlast the Nissan hands down.
Turbos and cvts aren’t the worse, only bad on Nissans lol
Leaning towards Roque❤❤❤
Wow, tough choice. Who is your winner?
Toyota 🎉
Edge to RAV4. Big edge if it's the hybrid version.
The Rav 4 is FUGLY! The Rogue looks hip and fresh. The Rav 4 looks old and dated.
Jeff, The RAV4 Hybrid is the clear winner.
Toyota is more reliable
Nissan wins until the moment the CVT breaks...
Jeff you still work for Toyota?
Rav4 is a good choice
Rogue - Good interior, comfort and smooth riding.
RAV4 - Reliability, better resale and good mpgs on hybrid trims.
Toyota's dependable for 200,000 miles easy Nissan I have to research
Did I miss it...does the driver's seat adjust up and down? (I know the passenger front seat does not)
The one without CVT
The Rogue looks like it's smiling. The RAV4 looks like a scowl.
Thx sir
Unfortunately Nissan has lost so much ground since the 70’s. I don’t see them ever catching up again. Long term not many Nissan vehicles keep high values like a Toyota does. The 240Z & Roadster days of the 60’s & 70’s are long gone.
Well, there are many people who buy vehicles to enjoy them (Nissan) and there are others who buy because they plan to sell them quickly (Toyota)
I know some people complained about it but I never had any such smell with my 2023 Rogue.
@froofycat I posted link to the lawsuit but it was removed. So I'm not going to do it again. It can be easily found. And it includes 2023 Rogue.
Rogue
Of course the rav wins….rav will be on the road longer
Nissan will break before it reaches 100k. Rav4 will probably outlive you.
The Rogue is obviously better overall but Toyota is much better at marketing and protecting their brand, giving people the impression their vehicles are more reliable.
That’s because Toyota is more reliable. How many Nissans do you see with over 300,000 miles
@@fallguy4209 ...a lot, actually. While Nissan has had their ups and downs with CVT, prior to the CVT era, their cars were every bit as reliable. In the past Toyota's maintained great reliability for their engines and transmissions, but everything else on them used to break down, from the stereos to the horns, to the cheaply made bumpers.
My 2013 Altima v6 has over 300k, still running strong and fast. The only maintenance was done to it last year was tie rod and lower control arms. My family owns nothing but Nissans since the 80's for the most part all of our cars went over 250k@fallguy4209
Roge
