  • This is the last lag drill in this mini series "The Secret To Getting Lag In Your Golf Swing." If you haven't watched the first lag tip then please watch it here:
    • THE REAL SECRET TO GET...
    If you made it to this tip that's great that you now have lag but what are you going to do with it? That's what this tip is all about and this is the secret to getting distance and hitting your irons with that pure, compressed sound.
    Free samples from my Body Swing book and video series here: bodyswing.com/freesamples/
    Make sure you do the first 2 drills before attempting this lag drill. You can and should be doing those drills nightly until your wrists start to loosen up. This takes practice but the payoff is worth it.
    Again, I would be doing this one with a mid-iron. You will be hitting shots but they will just be short easy ones so don't pay attention to the ball. Focus on the drill then once you master it start to do fuller swings.

I’ve even gone back and found my old persimmon 5Wood and she’s back in the bag now, could never hit the old way. Takes a lot of patience but after a ton of reps it feels very natural. Definitely needs lots of practice, like you said. Start slow, build up. Hardest parts are learning/remembering to keep wrists loose throughout the whole swing. My tendency is to tighten up ever so slightly thinking about lag, and then not finishing. Especially with driver = wipe. Great sequence of tips!

    1:50 - Great drill. I release and pause the 2 arms extended for a moment past impact, then re-hinge. Do that a few times, then do it without the pause. All slow at first and build up the speed. What really stood out to me was how the hips led the entire sequence, even when you did it slowly, just excellent!! At the point where your 2 arms are extended, your hips are already well past the ball.

    • @paulwilsongolf

    using this method..approx 200-250 swings and/or practice balls 3-5 days each week on the range or while watching TV..have added 3 mph to clubhead speed..might not think this is awesome but is 1/2 club to full club more off the driver and ..then add 1/2 club less for the club into the green and you have a major scoring difference in the game. Difference for me between 7 hybrid to a 8 or 9 iron...shot my age (70) for the first time since turning in April. 99% eliminates casting and puts a "pop" into all the shots... the yardages are amazingly consistant with great improvement with tight dispersion patterns. Do the work!

    Omg....I went out to my backyard in flip flops and hit 20 foam balls hit all 20 with such ease!!!! I was flabbergasted on the speed of that club head when I freed up my wrist. Had that little cup on the left wrist which really helped me relax the wrist. I always played flat or even a bit bowed cuz I was told the cupped wrist led to slicing... I am 58 and not as limber anymore but I smashed those balls with ease....did not even warm up...in flipflops mind you....thank you thank you thank you for freeing my swing!!!!! Hey, great video. Are you actively holding on to the lag down to hip height. As in forearm muscles active in extension until you release? I can't seem to get lag to happen on its own, tired with sequence, loose wrists up top etc. I Always get a rebound and leads to casting.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому

      When you are working on it yes, you would be holding it. You are hitting it is that simple. You need to be way looser. Why does and 8 year old who has never worked on lag have perfect lag? They have minimal arm strength. As much as you think you may be loose you still hitting with your arms. Do this: ua-cam.com/video/syZXIyJNH-Y/v-deo.html video it and I guarantee you will have lag.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому +1

      If you do the neutral grip driver may take a little practice. It's longer and you want too hit the ball hard. The new grip is more open than if you had it closed with a strong grip so you need to unlock your wrists. Get it hooking. Then add body back in. Just do this with driver rolling it early; ua-cam.com/video/OFJOLBSXSfQ/v-deo.html that will loosen you up.

    Pretty sure I've been doing the last point and letting the club feel really lightly gripped in my hands which does give an impression of looseness at the top. I do believe the grip was way to loose and the club was actually moving in my hands and I got some chaffing (and eventually blisters) at the base of my bottom hand index finger (inside near to the thumb) and also on the inside of the thumb pad too. Think I need to start with gripping the club tighter.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  10 місяців тому

      Well anyone with a physical I issue I get them to do the best they can do. Know what I am looking for then adapt your swing to the best of your ability. I would try releasing it from the top and see what happens. This would be what Mike Austin taught (not that he actually did that). So hit the top and start releasing it. It's only 1/4 second to impact so the face may be a little closed when you hit the ball so just aim right. Again, you need to find something that is going to work for you.
      As for bunkers here is my tip on that:
      ua-cam.com/video/MK9MyN3mdt8/v-deo.html
      I wouldn't be thinking about lag in the bunker. Just follow my tip below and you will pop them out perfectly in minutes.

    Hi Paul,
    When I am practising in practice area it is great but when I start playing a round there are some problems not striking with same power may I know why

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому

      Cause you are trying to hit with the arms when you play. Play hitting it 50% for every shot and see how you do. Get used to not hitting then speed up the lower body in the future. You cannot keep doing what you normally do. If so, when do you ever change anything. Get it slow. This way you are actually making the switch and doing it.

    Just out of curiosity, could you give a description of your driver please ?

  • @paulross8175
    @paulross8175 3 роки тому

    Ok I have to admit I’m a bit confused. First off I’m a huge believer and practitioner of swinging with my body vs arms and hands. However, after trying these 3 drills on a simulator to measure my club head speed I found that trying to establish lag creates “artificial lag” and actually slows me down. If you keep your arms and hands loose, lag happens naturally. In other words, swinging as you instruct creates lag on its own. Casting happens when you apply hand or arm force. So, why practice to create an artificial lag?
    Second question...when I swing with a ball, I hit it straight with a top end club head speed. When I take the ball away, I can get a higher club head speed, but my club head is wide open (as indicated by the simulator). Why is this and how can I get the higher speed but with a square face?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому

      1. If you are able to loosen up and create lag you are 1 in a million because most don't so they have to work on lag. So stop working on lag and start firing your body to power the swing.
      2. You loose power with a ball because you hit the ball (mass). This slows the clubhead down. No ball = faster speed. Your hips are moving so fast though the face is open. So roll the face closed on purpose a bunch of time then fire the lower. Once you do you will see they will be timed better.

      @@paulwilsongolf Thank you sir! I probably wasn't so loose before I started practicing your technique. I had lost distance as I'm getting a bit older, but I got it all back with this (and it feels easier). I will try your suggestion and hope to get a live lesson with you next time I'm in Vegas. • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  Рік тому

      This is because you thought you were invincible and started hitting with your arms again. Need to be way looser. So go down to 50% and loosen up. Then to get more power you do so by driving the legs harder never hitting harder. This is what all off my tips are about so I suggest going through some of them and get it back. The wrists are a hinge. A hinge is loose. They hinge they rehinge. There is no power in a hinge. This arm unit is connected to your body which is coiling and uncoiling. That's it. Here are all of my tips:

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Casting - you are hitting with your arms moving the mass before the axis. Follow all of the tips in this series and do the work:

    How do you release the club before the ball and still compress it?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 роки тому

      Who is releasing the club before the ball? This is a drill to get your wrists to release. Once you fire your lower body this point would move ahead of the ball. Too many people never release this lag angle at all. So you need to do the drill to learn the release then add it to your swing.
