Planet Coaster College - El Loco Coaster Tutorial
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 січ 2017
- The El Loco coasters by S&S (known ingame as the Loony Turns Crazy One) are some of the most compact coasters in the world - yet they also feature some of the steepest drops, crazy curves, and unique inversions. In this video I'll show you how to build one of these - albeit it slightly derailed from the standard off-the-shelf model that many of them in real life follow.
As a note in hindsight, the POV definitely shows that this coaster is way too slow. All I can say is that the trims should've been quite a bit slower, and the block brakes shouldn't have removed the cars at all - it shouldn't be an issue to let these coasters run through their track at a pretty high speed.

About Planet Coaster College: PCC is a series of video guides in which I cover many aspects of making realistic and creative parks in Planet Coaster. One of my goals with the series is to make a video explaining each of the coaster types avaliable and show you how to build them, but there will also be some videos about elements of theme parks and the game in general, such as buildings and scenery. Overall, the series is directed toward already seasoned players of the games, though I do sprinkle tips that may be useful for beginners too. - Ігри
10:36 as the train goes down the barrel roll I can hear robb alvey saying "TWISTYYY"
I've been to Adventuredome in Las Vegas but it was before El Loco was built. I only got to ride the Canyon Blaster. I want to go back and give El Loco a try now. Thanks for the tutorial! Keep up the amazing work!
Steel Hawg at Indiana Beach is an El Loco.
ShinobiTreecko8 Under Red Alert yah
I love the El Loco in game, easy to make crazy high excitement coasters with low nausea and fear. Also one of my favorites in real life!
Dude, Planet Coaster should totally hire you to do tutorials for them. When I first found your channel, I just clicked on one of your videos while not even thinking about it. After I was finished watching, I looked at your channel name and I was amazed that you aren't the official Planet Coaster channel. You explain everything in such detail and everything is really easy to follow. Well done and keep up the great work!
I realize Im kind of off topic but do anyone know a good site to watch new tv shows online?
@Bodie Hayden flixportal :)
@Jayson Riley Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it !
@Bodie Hayden glad I could help =)
I've been on the green lantern coaster before and it was awesome. Like you discussed, it was high thrills on a compact and even slow track. It was interesting to connect my experience on the coaster to the building strategies you used to make this coaster. Great vid as always my dude, keep it up.
We have one in Australia at Movieworld called the Green Lantern, it's so good!!!
Soo good
this made me really happy because the first roller coaster i ever rode was one really similar to this at a county fair
I've Rode one of these coasters in Flamingo Land in Yorkshire, England! They are so weird :)
Adam Waters I’ve ridden that as well, mumbo jumbo?
They're cool, yet very Forceless
I really like mumbo jumbo's drop
British Thrillseeker I don' think a ride has to be forceful to be good though.
it gets me how similar Saw: the ride (in Thorpe Park) is, even though it's a steel eurofighter by Gerstlauer. it's a fantastic ride!
Hey Silvarret, I've pretty much seen every video you ever uploaded, and I have to say that I really enjoy these tutorials. Not just because of the content (although that's great too) but because of the realtime narration. You are so comfortable to listen to! Your speedbuild-timelapses very often also include speedtalking ;-)
Thanks for the video, super informative!
I see these most often at carnivals -- built into maybe a 10m x10m space (like 30ft by 30ft maybe?). So, a very small area, but it's all track. They like to make these for kids, usually themed with mice carts or something. And yes, they get so crazy with their constant turns and ups and downs in such a small space. Heck, you could practically reach and touch another car or the track, though I don't recommend it :)
They are definitely fun.
I don't think the rides you see at the carnival are the same type of ride.
I'm very sure.
This series is great!
Pretty accurate; the first ever El Loco was built at my local park (Mumbo Jumbo at Flamingo Land - world's steepest rollercoaster in 2009 until Japan broke the record.), and I've rode it multiple times - this was pretty similar to it
The colour scheme reminds me of Smiler from Alton Towers although that track is completely black
DatDutchman soooo the black supports make you think of the
I never tried twister cuz I never been Alton towers
I went to the one in Las Vegas with my 8 year old nephew!
I never liked making these coasters, but your's is so elegant and compact. I really want to try to make one of these now.
puxorb same
Try riding one (an El Loco) I chickened.
He didn't make it his own.
Silvarret you should go to a big "Kermis" (Tilburg one for example) those mostly have a small version of these rollecoasters, most are called wild mouse like you said.
Oh wow, I was applying the Arrow Looper concepts to these, and came out with a crazy flexible family version of one of those. But for them to be this compact actually gives me quite a few ideas to build a completely indoor version of one of these.
I was just building one of these earlier and thinking 'I wonder if silvarret will do a PCC for these'
Why do the coasters in Planet Coaster sound like Pinball Machines?
a really tricky coaster to build. thnx silv for your tipps!
This coasters also have a really fast lift hill.
Yep
Great video! Can you maybe do like a top 10 theme parks that you've been to as well as some you would like to visit? :)
Thanks so much for doing these videos silv! Really informative and fun to watch. :)
Neat, this coaster has gotten me to going to sleep at 7am once, it's really frustrating. >:(
I only got into coasters a lot recently and didn't realise there was one local to me. Very cool
I really hope they add the 2 seats per row cart into this game as i just think it looks much nicer as it goes round the track instead of the bulky 4 seat per row.
Awesome Vid Silv! Although I kinda knew how to build these, your example showed me where to place block sections (I struggle a bit with them lol), so thanks! :D
I really wish more people knew more about your channel, your content is incredible :)
Those El Locos are also some of the longest. Fun little coasters.
Been looking forward to a new one of these for ages! Thanks Silv :D
Geekism I
I'd agree.Well done, silvarett!
I think Arrow nowadays is carried out by both Vekoma and S&S, with Vekoma doing their traditional looping and family coasters whilst S&S focus on their more weird coaster types like the 4D coaster
Awesome tutorial Silv!
The new Mack Big Dippers have some similar elements in them now that I think of it...
As always great job!!! Keep up the great work.
Hey Silvarret i got a question how can you install it ? im having a hard time
Nice tutorial again Silvarret!
I really want to ride one of those. Must be such an unique experience
Where I am, down in Australia, doesn't really do great with coasters, but we do have one of these funnily enough, and they're honestly just a big boy's wild mouse. The beyond vertical drop is really the best part of the ride, since it pretty much throws you out of your seat when you go over and you really get a cool conflict of forces, but a lot of the other elements *sound* cool in theory, but really are just gimmicks. That roll into the loop honestly just hurts because of the hang time, the outward turn is really only good if you're sitting on the outside seat that's banking down, and the rest of the ride is pretty standard. Don't get me wrong, fun rides, and they're a nice middle ground between say, a eurofighter and a wild mouse, and they're pretty unique in that, but unless you're in a smaller park with an absence of many larger rides, you can kind of gloss over one without too much regret. Certainly one to get on if you're a coaster enthusiast, purely for how weird they are, but that's pretty much it.
Yeah I figured as much. But like you said: "certainly one to get on if you're a coaster enthusiast". I just really have to ride at least one of these. Unfortunately I'm still a student so I don't have the resources to travel all over the world to visit parks :(
Yeah I feel that man. I'm a student too and the only decent parks in aus are up on the gold coast which is out of state for me, so I've only been up on family holidays in the past. Maybe a theme park trip is on the bucket list one day though eh? hit as many of the big parks in the world as you can. Definitely something I'm saving up to do one day.
That sucks man. I do have some good parks around. Phantasialand for example is like a little over an hour away. And Efteling like 1.5 hour. Maybe you know them.
And yeah I'm definitely planning to do several coaster trips once my financial situation allows it. Biggest one being the US as they have some insane coasters over there.
@@Itheeric The only thing I have to say about this conversation is #relatable
Steel Hawg! Indiana Beach is another great one! Great video
are you going to upload this in the stream... i want it in my park .. this is epic :P
"Wild Mouse on crack"
Say wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut
Great video silv, have you ever thought of doing a q&a. It would be really cool to know your personality/character a bit more when watching. But either way, keep up the good work.
theres one almost exactly like this near to where i live called mumbo jumbo, theyre really fun if you get the chance to go on one. held the world record for steepest coaster for a fair few years, a coaster in japan took the crown recently if im not mistaken
Hi Silvarret,
very cool....
Thanks for your great videos ;-))
Awesome !
Can you make general tutorials about the Coaster types and not only about special coaster from the companys?
Amazing tutorial as always 👌👌, hope the next Roller Coaster tutorial is about B&M floor-less like Kumba 😁
Awesome tutorial!
Steel Hawg at Indiana Beach started it all
Hey, you used my suggestion! Thanks Silv :D
*Play the Silvarret Drinking Gmae:*
- 1 drink every time the car flies off the track
- 2 drinks every time he says "One thing to note..."
- 3 drinks for each track inversion
- Finish your drink if Silvarret swears
*HARDMODE*
Take a drink every time Silvarret clicks the "Smooth All" button.
I’ve build so many of these coaster , the are so fun to make
i rode steel hawg the first el loco and its really really fun for the size
great video!
Can you please make tutorial how to build really smooth coasters? 🙂 Smoothing tool always ruin my layout
i love your vids :3333 ur sooooo damn good in planet coaster
Theres only six "wild mouse" coasters in the world?! Wow. I got so used to seeing them on every fairground in germany. Must have been two of the six over and over.
How many beyond vertical drops has Mr. Silv ridden?
This is actually a great rollercoaster that I think I've seen similar before called "Squirrel" - not sure.
But great simulation. 👍
Screaming Squirrel was actually the unofficial prototype for this coaster type, so good catch!
There's one in France if you're interested. It's in Fraispertuis City. Though, I don't think there is many credits to get beside of this one, what I know is that it's a small park
Looked into it recently, the El Loco is really the only reason to go there at all - and because it's somewhat close to Nigloland, apparently.
Silvarret Fraispertuis is building an Intamin drop tower with floored stand-up seats (better than floorless stand-up apparently), so that's another thing to do there. And their amazing (*cough) Soquet, of course...
Great video! (for once, duh).
But since it's college, here is some more trivia:
- The outward banked turn figure was designed by Alan Schilke (wasn't all the ride designed by him then? I don't know), the man who invented the 4thD coaster for Arrow.
- The strength of the original design is that, minus some lower parts, all the ride is supported by 4 columns, each composed of 4 vertical supports. So the number of foundations is actually quite low.
- You'd need your block brakes to be slanted as well, following a neutral slope (that's how we call a slope where the car rolls but don't gain speed). It could be handy in case of a power failure. Also, catwalks! ^^
Use a negative banking offset for outward banked curves.
Twist Coaster Robin is the memiest coaster of all time.
What about every Golden Horse coaster ever?
Silvarret just the fact that it was open for a few hours and was at fucking Yomiuriland xD what a joke of a park, The name was pretty funny too. Though Bandit looks pretty good actually, probably the best TOGO outside of the Ultra Twisters.
Rolly Coaster Honestly, riding Bandit some day is life goal worthy!
Silvarret not as life goal worthy as 3,000 credits. I'm already 1/50th the way there! Why stop now?
This coaster you built is EXACTLY like the green lantern coaster at movie world, Australia lol.
wnairnw2 And here in the US, Steel Hawg at Indiana Beach.
Ah yes i saw that :D
Usually there's only one outward bank on El Locos. It's on the curve after the first block brake when it does basically an oval into the dive loop.
You should definatly go to bobbejaanland, it's the first coaster you see, these rides are great.
Fury is opening next month!!! be hiped!!!
Silv! If you want to go on one not that far from where you live I whould recomend Flamingo Land in Yorkshire or Fraispertuis City in France. From the centre of Brussels it's only a 4-5 hour drive.
WOW silv you liked my comment within 3minutes, I'm impressed!
Movie World, Australia has one. Really fun
I am currently thinking about what I should get, NoLimits 2 or Planet Coaster.
Each side of the argument seems very nice.
With NoLimits, I have a massive range of coasters to pick from, and can build any sort of element possible.
The primary backside being performance requirements, for I have a dinky laptop, and on how NoLimits is very hard to use.
With Planet Coaster, it is very simple to use, and has a nice sized selection of roller coasters.
The backside I am aware of Planet Coaster is that you can't make you own elements (at least that is what I think).
So, what do you reckon?
Hello?
RandOmSandw1ch _ You should definetly get Planet Coaster. Everything about it is better and you can make your own elements. Although it too requires a damn good computer.
It honestly depends (I have both :P). If you're into realism and are willing to spend a lot of time (unless you're well experienced) into every aspect of a coaster then NL2 is your best bet. If you're interested in more aspects such as money, flatrides, parks, etc. then Planet Coaster. I do agree it's a tough decision but I've found myself playing more Planet Coaster lately :P So there you go.
RandOmSandw1ch _ PlanCo is the way to go.
RandOmSandw1ch _ you are able to add your own elements in planet coaster.
Like Mumbo Jumbo at Flamingo Land
coolredpen same but I only went on it once in the week I was there, I also loved velocity but I also only went on it once
Great tutorial Silvarret! Your graphics card is amazing. What type do you have if you don't mind me asking?
You've never been on an El Loco? Man, you're missing out.
Did you ever think about switching the station around to the other side and making the overbanked turn go around the back? Looks like it might make it more compact.
Lagoon, in Utah has one of these with a unique tower style lift.
Anyone know what type of coaster the "mindbender" in West Edmonton Mall and has anyone experienced the deafening racket of that thing.
there is also a indoor yellow el loco for 4 persons, its carts look really the same, but the el loco i am talking about is with 2 persons next to each other (a small el loco)
Do a tutorial for the S&S screamin squirrel coaster
I have tried to make some of these, but it's so dificult to get it right!
I make every elements (looping, barel roll, corkscrew) myself because you can’t smooth the transition out when you place the premade elements in game.
Off-topic question Silv:
Have you heard from the rumour that a new B&M wing coaster is coming to Toverland in 2018 and what do you think about it ?
Back on-topic: nice video ;-)
I'm pretty confident that it's real, in any case, I want to believe - it'd be amazing and the perfect addition to the park.
De doelgroep van Toverland zal het zeker geweldig vinden, nu hopen voor een goede layout en het is helemaal perfect voor Toverland.
Adri Kerkhofs are you mr. papadou on steam? Because
u have the same profile picture☺
No, I have no idea who that is ;-)
I don't know what type of coaster this is, but look up Crazy Loop Roller Coaster in Brean, U.K. I went on it and it would have been smooth if it were not so old, and it is fairly compact as are all the coasters in that park. Have a look at them and see what you think. I just thought that it was quite interesting that they were quite similar to the El Locos, but I think portable is the best description of the coasters, but they are fixed to the concrete.
Can you do a video on the importance of the banking offset tool? I don't have a good understanding of this tool and I don't know the right times to use it.
I think it helps with nausea, your head won't be forced to the side as much
I don’t put trim brakes on the first drop of that el loco. I usually use angle snap, so I keep it at 112 degrees.
This proves that Frontier does their research.
I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yes but the lift hills of el loco coasters are much faster than the one in this.
What were the test results? You removed that window in the cut to the completion of the track at the end and never brought it back up. Wondering what numbers to be shooting for in the recreation. Thanks.
I have rode the el loco roller coaster in circus circus Las Vegas hotel and the outwards banked turns produce a lot of g forces. It's like normal air time but sideways.
Nice tutorial! can you also do a s&s free fly? i know there aren't so many examples but you can fill it in yourself xD. or maybe a terrain invert.
YES
Yesss
just wondering, are there any El Locos in the Netherlands/Belgium?
Arno De Pauw yes in Duinrell in Wassenaar.
Arno De Pauw No, not yet. At Duinrell it's a Gerstlauer Eurofigther. ;)
There is one in fraispertuis city in France, the 2nd nearest is in Flamingo Land in the U.K.
you would proble like the elloco coaster at my local theme park very similar to this one actually I always ride it several times on my visits to the park if your interested to see it look up steel hawg at Indiana beach pov very fun coaster keep up the great videos you make it look so easy
I like to call these extreme wild mouses
If I had a coaster to share with you, how should I go about sending the link?
Walibi Netherlands has one. I've been on it recently
Rowano Hartman lost gravity
Rowano Hartman It's not an El Loco, it's a Mack Big Dipper. ;)
hey silvarret, have u seen vsauce's most recent video on brachistochrones? I immediately thought about if that was used when building rollercoasters. did u ever hear about brachistochrones? :D
Couldn't help but notice, but have the supports been updated now?
Can you do a Coaster College on B&M inverts?
Isn't the Lost Gravity in Walibi Holland a bit el loco-like? It's kind of the same concept: it's very smooth, seems like it has the same coaster car and it has steep drops too.
Not that many similarities I'm afraid - the El Loco cars in Planet Coaster are actually not the standard ones - the standard El Locos have much more in the way of wild mouses in terms of size and seating. Lost Gravity feels like a mini wing coaster/meets Infinity Coaster to me.
@@Silvarret Lost gravity is a Big Dipper model by mack rides and the el loco models are made by S&S Worldwide.
Do Coaster College on a Log Flume!
is this the same type as the spinning dragons at worlds of fun?
It isn't, sorry to disapoint.
Funny that these rides aren't that common, we have one down in Australia and we really don't do great for coasters (we have one intamin and that's sort of it, and it's universally accepted as the best ride in the country by a mile). Strange that we can't get a hyper on the continent but we have an el loco.
