Planet Coaster College - 4th Dimension Coaster Tutorial

  • In this episode of Planet Coaster College, I'm taking time to show how the X-Coaster - in real life known as a 4th Dimension coaster - works and how you can build one in-game. This one takes a bit longer than usual, since the focus is on the coaster type's unique spinning seat mechanics, rather than just its layout. That said, I hope you can still learn something from some of the parts in this video, especially if you've been too intimidated by the coaster type so far - it's barely been used until now, even though it's one of the most interesting and creative types once you get used to the controls!
    Small note: I said lie-to-fly in the video a few times where it should've been fly-to-lie. The direction pretty much just refers to whether you're going from a position underneath the track to above the track or the other way around, but it's a term I messed up in the video nonetheless.
    Small recommendation: if you like the coaster type and would love to know it works in real life, Coaster Bot has made a great video about X2:

    About Planet Coaster College: PCC is a series of video guides in which I cover many aspects of making realistic and creative parks in Planet Coaster. One of my goals with the series is to make a video explaining each of the coaster types avaliable and show you how to build them, but there will also be some videos about elements of theme parks and the game in general, such as buildings and scenery. Overall, the series is directed toward already seasoned players of the games, though I do sprinkle tips that may be useful for beginners too.

    I've ridden X2, a 4 dimensional coaster in California, and it was honestly the most painful ride I've ever been on. You have to hold yourself in and keep your head from banging everywhere. Oh, and forget about your legs, they fly everywhere, and by the time the ride is over, you have a broken leg, snapped neck, and possibly major concussion. The thing is....all of that is worth it because X2 is just unbeatable in uniqueness and excitement. It's the BEST worst ride out there!

    Even though Frontier didn’t add the realism of the X rails moving up and down according to the seat rotation, if you watch the video of the coaster train, not the POV, you can see the ratchet gear actually moving when the seats rotate, including in this video. They did nail that detail quite well!

    21:23 I believe that, while not modeled after Vekoma Flying Dutchman flying coasters, the game does have the B&M alternative. The flying/Stingray coaster in the game is the equivalent, with the only real difference from a Dutchman being the manufacturer. And I would love a PCC on flyers.

    10:30 - X2's Raven turn is more of a continous half loop, while Dinoonda and Eejanaika both have a stall to them. Both Dinoconda and Eejanaika also do a full seat rotation during the Raven Turn while X2 doesn't so I'm pretty certain the different shaping is G related.

The trackworx and support pack (forgot what it was called) certainly added another level of customization in RCT3, I think it would be neat for this game too. E: I'm aware you could build your own out of a million elements meshed together, but surely it would be easier to do the entire track custom if we had pre-fab pieces that worked similar to how they did in RCT3 (resizing themselves as needed).

    you dont hit the face-down drop soon enough, and you have the bottom of the drop putting all of the Gs on the riders' shoulders.
    then your element you made, its cool, but you rotated it a way that pushes you away from your seat at a quite forceful spot. , which is fine for vekoma flyer or b&m flyer.. but arrow/s&s restraints dont allow that dynamic comfortably. that's why these feel not as crazy as you might expect with always rotating to have the force towards the back of the seat

    • @Silvarret

      PeXxaN The building system is completely in meters, so it can be helpful to use them, but MPH is clearly the best speed unit.

    He said 4D coasters tend to have higher stations. But The Joker (the 4D coaster i'm familiar with) station is ground level. and only has 8 seats per car. (4 seats on each side of the track) The joker also doesn't curve around(like he said all the real life 4D do), It's all built up. A Straight up lift.
    I'm not saying this coaster is bad, Its actually really good.

    • @ThatOne_Canadian
      @ThatOne_Canadian 7 років тому

    • @haroldbon9732
      @haroldbon9732 7 років тому +4

      He's talking specifically about these Arrow/S&S 4th Dimension coasters with the controlled rotation. You're referring to a free-spinning 4D coaster.

    • @BananononJakuzure
      @BananononJakuzure 7 років тому +1

      I know they're also called 4D coasters, but they're a different sort of.. coaster type? For one, the seats freely rotate as opposed to having a set pattern in which they rotate. No such coaster type as The Joker exists in Planet Coaster.

    • @coastersplus
      @coastersplus 7 років тому +1

      4D coasters of the X[2] have a normal 3D track with an extra "dimension" from the rotating seats. Those free spinning ones have a 2D track layout and rotating seats, so they should really be called "3D coasters" to be fair.
