  • Mehr is starting to take shape! today we are making an beautiful wenge fretboard for my guitar. Today's plan is to cut copper fret markers, then thickness the stock, and finally machine the wenge fretboard and glue in the inlays / fret markers. This fretboard came out INCREDIBLE.

    Glue the fretboard to the neck then radius and cut fretslots. Soon as you glue the pre radius fretboard it is uneven like a Gibson. Fret levels end up all over the shop..

    Hello Austin I recently found your channel.
    We always used denatured alcohol when cutting, milling or drilling soft metals like aluminium or Cooper. I never had any problems even with a 1mm (0.04 inch) endmill or drill.
    But remember denatured alcohol is highly flammable ;) so keep it away from your spindle motor.
    BTW: what superglue and activator you are using? I'm looking for a good one.

    Did I miss how you did the cam in fusion for fret boards?

    Hey Austin! Great job and great video, as always. Could you make a quick video about your CAM process for fret slots? That would be awesome, I tend to use the 3D Project toolpath but I’m struggling with the settings. Would love to hear about your method. Keep up the great job man!!

      Did Austin ever get back to you about the CAM for fret slots? I am thinking it has to be a Trace operation but I can't see how he gets that from model since there aren't sketch lines inside the fret slots. Thanks.

    That's some nice piece of fretboard mate! As I don't have a CNC, I've been always curious about making a jig for my router to do the fretslots with the small bit showed in this video, but I don't know if that will work at all. Really great content in this channel, subscribed already

      Thanks mate! I can think of a few ways to make jig that work, but it may require a cnc to make the jig so that may defeat the purpose:P

    Great work mate. It looks awesome!!!.... What about that CA glue on your fingers??? LOL!!

    • @austinshaner
      @austinshaner  2 роки тому +2

      Hahaha so many people have asked about that, the CA I use never seems to tack up without the activator - or at least takes about 10 minutes. So I have plenty of time to simply wipe it off. No fingers were glued together in the making of this film 😀

      I believe they are shop fox brand on Amazon.

    How/why are you touching CA glue with your bare hands?

    • @austinshaner
      @austinshaner  2 роки тому

      Haha everyone has commented on that. The particular CA glue I'm using takes a long time to harden without the activator spray, so I was able to simply wipe it off without any stickiness or fingers being glued together 😀. I find I tend to use my hands a lot when applying glue, as you'll see in the next video with titebond.
      But If it was normal superglue I'd be screwed doing it this way. 😜
