I been catching mice in the house. They come in when it gets cold. Twice yesterday I found a dead mouse in the trap half eaten. Then I caught a shrew. It was eating the mice.
Pray tell, what ever became of Mr. Mouse? I presume he became dinner for Mr. Shrew. My son heard a mouse squeal in agony behind our fridge last night. More than likely it was a shrew, who came in from the cool beginnings of fall. Thought I got all the holes in this old house, but nope.
That is actually a "White Toothed Shrew" or "Mouse Shrew"! They are "Diurnal" and their sight is pretty decent.Unlike the common Shrew which are "Nocturnal" and blind,or almost blind depend on the Subspecies! "White Toothed Shrew" are commonly hang out with Mice,I think that is why they're also called "Mouse Shrew"??? Shrews are actually the only Rodents I like and find Cute!!!
Mice hail from the rodentia family, but shrews are classified as insectivores. The classifying difference between the two is found in their diets. While a shrew might eat roots, seeds and other vegetation when necessary, his main diet is meat: beetles, crickets, snails, earthworms, millipedes, scorpions, small snakes and birds, mice and even other shrews. Conversely, a mouse will occasionally eat insects like beetles and cockroaches, but prefers his diet mostly vegetarian: seeds, roots, stems, grass and leaves.
Um. Actually. Shrew researcher here; I'm kind of appalled to find so many very old bits of misinformation and ignorance still being cited as fact... Not really anyone's fault - I'm not aware of any good publication that could give present information to the public. A) The vast majority of mice are utter omnivores- they regularly kill and eat baby birds, steal eggs, eat crickets, etc. All of them. Most are specialized in one direction or another- BUT - very few of them will pass up food that is right in front of them. Arguments over what "shrews" eat are ancient, and confusing- and usually wrong. The North American short tailed shrew, Blarina brevicauda, does in fact regularly and avidly hunt and kill mice, using its venom. It will also eat chestnuts (I have photos) and will collect and store sunflower seeds as long as you will keep supplying them. A study done on their stomach contents (gray goo) - analyzing DNA when that became possible- showed that 50% of what they were eating was.... not on anyone's list of guesses- fungus. Mushrooms, etc. The shrew in this video I think is NOT of a species that regularly hunts adult mice. But I would bet that if it tripped over a baby mouse- it would take it immediately. Many species of shrew - all different.
My mom and I accidentally mistook a shrew for a mouse once when it invaded our home. Those things act so crazy, I was sure it had rabies! But I guess that' just how those evil buggers are... >.
www.nytimes.com/2001/07/10/science/q-a-rodents-and-rabies.html www.cdc.gov/rabiesandkids/animals.html#anchor1 To be fair, the rate of small rodents getting rabies is close to never. But that doesn't mean they CAN'T get it. www.creaturecontrol.net/Shrews Shrews are more closely related to moles than mice and rats. Ergo, not a rodent. Happy now?
Once again, it IS possible for rodents to get rabies, so even if it's rare, it's more correct to say "rodents can get rabies" (which is true, but rare) than "rodents CANNOT get rabies" (which is false). An example of animals that CANNOT get rabies EVER would be amphibians, reptiles, birds, and insects. But all warm blooded mammals can get rabies, however rare the rate might be. Also are you forgetting the part where I correctly asserted that shrews were not rodents? That never stopped being a thing. Can you even read, sir? How are you even able to function on the internet with the reading comprehension of a 6 year old?
They are surprisingly bold and aggressive. I never thought there was another small mammal that could upstage an aggressive Chinese dwarf hamster or red squirrel, but from one of the posts in this interesting forum thread, shrews have those other two upstaged. forums.spacebattles.com/threads/angriest-and-calmest-mammal-species.486997/
So fuuucking fast, must have a heart rate of over 9000

Eew.
now i understand why the mafia boss in zootopia is a shrew
kawaii apple123 yeah, they're super territorial and vicious.
tsubaki410 i think it was more hungry in this case. In any case, they've both been known to predate on each other.
Goddamn I just thought shrew were cute!
Shouldn't the shrew eat the mouse? Shrews eat meat.
yes.
Mouse and rats are bad but shrews are too bad
Shrews in action look like a laggy video game, like he's just teleporting

The shrew was shopping for her wedding dress in Little Rodentia
I thought shrews are pure carnivores.
Glad to hear your cat is a mouse and shrew fan. I fun filming them 😁😁

Shrews are not rodents but eulipothyflans (or Insectivorans)
Shrew and mice coexist?
Lovely creatures well filmed Paula 👍
Thanks :0)
Watching a shrew move is like a glitch
Speed fastest
Mice actually don't like Cheese they can eat but not so much.
Thant Zaw Win They love cheese, it's just not good for them.
The evidence is here right before your eyes. That mouse didn't appear to be staving off the cheese.
And so, Seth McFarlane gets an idea for a new cartoon.
Is Shrew like a mouse?

My cat's favorite new video!!!

Those shrew moves are creepy as hell
2:54 Press one more time the ZOOM button and we'll see INSIDE the shrew.
Une musaraigne et une souris dans la " même maison" c'est très étonnant ... Mais la vidéo me plaît beaucoup ♡♡♡♡
just killed one this morning in my living room..thinking it was a mouse.kinda feel bad now, they're really cool.
cheese is really unhealthy for rodents you know... should have given it nuts & seeds
Shrews are actually carnivores, but for the mouse that's a good idea. And you're right about the cheese thing, because it contains milk.
Lmao
Who cares theres millions of them.

***** first of all, you're wrong and don't know how rabies works. Second of all, shrews are not rodents.
