Thanks a ton, use my Olight at work and it just started acting up. After watching your video it turned out it was just a loose retaining ring! Saved me some $$!
Dude you are my hero I've had this led light in my drawer for months, I was going to throw it away then I saw your video now it works like new, thanks again
It works lol. Disassembled and resembled and it worked. Used a pen to unscrew and screw. Not 100% working every single time but now I just squeeze or slightly rotate the switch to get it on.
I had a Rayovac Workhorse Pro™ 3AAA LED Virtually Indestructible Flashlight that wouldn't turn off. I used this video to take the switch apart and put it back together. It is now working properly again. Many thanks.
I bought a new Anker Bolder LC 89 Light and the switch would intermittently make contact. They sent me a replacement. Same thing happened. Faulty switch design. Is there a generic push button switch that's simply on and off that I can purchase separately to repair this correctly?
Very good presentation and if I politely suggest that Nyogel 760G is a great lubricant that is safe with all O-rings just apply to your valuable flashlights to the treads and the inside of the contacts just a very small dab does the job every 4 months to protect your flashlights from corrosion and ease for sound functionality. My cap is solid white rubber or something inside. Also not a spring but a button. Thought maybe its just a cover for the spring but I'm hesitant to pry it out.
I see several posts about modes. The led driver counts clicks from the tail button. Basically, the modes are in the head. The tail just sends the same signal over and over every time you click. The driver counts clicks or half presses to determine what mode you should be in.
thank you. i was about to dump my light, and wondering how it can be disassembled. then i ckeched de switch with multimeter and it was working. re assembly made my day but it works again now :)
That was good info about the Thrunite flashlight. I believe that is why mine has so many issues with the switch not working. It is loose after a couple of months and I have to cinch it tight again. It is a bad design and I am not happy with my TN12 for that very reason.
I may need to watch a few more times, I see you have taken apart & put back together the end cap & switch. Mine is similar, Alps Mount. & I was able to isolate that it is the switch via UA-cam video by BatteryJunction But I don’t quite understand the fix. Thx!
If your torchlight is flickering or goes no light when you drop, all you need to do is put a the smallest coin you can find and place it between the spring and end of the battery
Hello, can you please tell how to check and repair VARTA 3W LED (3x C-cell) torch with tail cap switch (3 mode). Mine has got some problem with contact, but I don't know how to repair it. I already pulled out the units inside, except the actual switch, coz I don't know what's inside and don't want to mess it up. Thanks in Advance.
Hello ! Thanks for your video, it’s great. I have the same flashlight, but the light does not switch modes anymore, i don’t know what happend, i did use it as usual, but one day it does not change modes ... I can’t choose light strengt and can’t use the strob ... I don’t know what could be the problem ... Do you have an idea ? Thanks
Hello @turboBB73 is it possible to edit the mechanical switch in a way that it doesn't "click" any more and gives "momentary only" light? (so pressing the tailcap-button -> light on, releasing the tailcap-button -> light off) If you know how, could you make a video about that? You could make a "theoratical" video if you don't want to "ruin" one of your tailcaps.
Mine is a 5 way. All I want is an on and off. I only use 1 mode, 1 click is high.I get tired of clicking it so many times to cycle through the other modes I dont use to turn it off.
Sorry it's been a while but I haven't forgotten this request, just been quite busy. For now, I'd recommend checking out this vid re: clicky pen switch (ua-cam.com/video/Zv5Qa2kGL04/v-deo.html) since a flashlight clicky switch operates on the same principle. I believe if you mod the switch to shave off the teeth on the cams and guides so it can't latch then you basically have converted the clicky into a momentary switch. If I do manage to find a spare switch I can dissect, I'll post a vid.
Apologies for late reply, but unfortunately mode switching is done electronically via the circuit board so there'd be no way to mod the switch to disable modes. There are some flashlight circuits that allow you to program them but those are usually high-end or custom lights and most off-the-shelf brands wouldn't support that.
Hey I recently got one of those Bell&Howell Tac Light's. It's just a chinese knockoff with the B&H name imprinted on it. Now that I have one I've been finding them all over the web for 4-7$ same T6 cree LED and all. Either way, I dropped it and now it doesn't go through modes like it used to. It has 5 modes, Hi-Med-Low-Strobe-SOS. Usually cycling the power button goes through each mode just fine but now it won't cycle hardly at all. If I take the tail cap off and use a paper clip to jump from the battery holder to flashlight body it cycles just fine. But the strange thing is, that the switch works like it should, it turns on and off no problem jut won't cycle through modes. But using a paper clip in place of the switch, i can cycle again. Any ideas?
My switch shorted and the flash light would not turn off completely on a NiteCore , 2- AA model. I tested it with an ohm meter and when it was in the on position it would show 100% current and the switch was in the off position it would show 50% current. I guess I'll have to buy the internal switch mechanism for the tail cap switch.
I have just bought a single AA cell torch and it has an annoying switch that goes through cycle rather than a simple on off feature. This is annoying to say the least but my cree torch does now have a retaining ring.
I have a flashlight like that and it has started turning on without touching the switch, even if you pick it up or shake it the light come on but if you click the switch it turns off . Is that a bad switch?
I got a Thorfire TK06 and my button is messing around, only being on low. It goes up to high when held in, however, that turns out the flashlight, too. My problem is that I can't open the gold ring, as it is super tight. Any ideas how to get it off before stripping it bare?
Going to assume you mean the TG06 given there is no TK06 (that I'm aware of) and the TK05 actually doesn't have a tailcap switch. Only thing I can suggest is spraying some WD40 and letting it sit for a while then trying again with the tailcap held firmly by a wooden vice (or using some cloth against a metal vice so you don't damage it). Don't have my TG06 with me atm but on the TG06S, to loosen you twist the brass ring CCW.
I forgot to mention, if you do manage to get it loose with WD40, be sure to clean it off with an electrical contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol before reinstalling the switch.
So my flashlight was having issues and I think I fucked up. So I have LC90 by Anker. I didn’t do research before I started messing with it. So I got frustrated and removed the gold spring thing that’s attach to the button to turn on the light. I was wondering can I just put it back on or did I really fuck up my opportunity for an easy fix???? Please anyone help
Wished someone would do a video on adding a pressure switch to end of on/off end cap. I punched a hole ran my pressure pad wires try green rubber button, soldered wire to copper spring(positive side of pattern, thought I just needed to made contact with handle to complete circuit but it stays on won’t shut off, I made one 5 years ago but cannot remember er how I did it
could you recommend a tail cap switch replacement for my klarus XT11! mine only works in on/off mode,it once did work in high med low and strobe mode, and i don't no what happened maybe a bad switch! the TG06 looks like it would work!lots of thanks, and grate video.
+Blane Biondolillo Hi there, I don't have an XT11 so I'm not sure what switch might work in it. Best to post a question to the folks on the light forums like CPF or BLF. Thx for the comment and let me know if you need further assistance.
i know im asking randomly but does anybody know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I love any tricks you can give me.
got a led 2 d battery mag light new model cant find vidio on how to remove bulb!!Also the flashliclght when aimed down turns off?Whats up with that checked contacts battery if i can get it out a bulb too!!!Sny idea!!
Hey sorry, I don't own a 2D mag so unfortunately can't help you but maybe you can post a question over on budgetlightforum.com or candlepowerforums.com. Tons of really smart and helpful people there.
What kind of battery should I use to bring out the 300 lumens from the TG06 flashlight, because when I use regular AA batteries it's not in full brightness.
+kevin balbacal Looks like the upgraded version features 300 lms. The particular sample I received only pumps out ~150lms with LiIon. In your case, I'd recommend the Keep Power 840 mAh 14500 cell. I purchased them off Amazon and they are one of the better 14500 cells out there. I originally selected this cell to pair with the Manker T01 after poring through HKJ's reviews and batter comparator. Sadly it was too long and didn't fit in the T01 but it does work in my T06. I can't imagine that they changed the length of the new version so I'd expect it to work just fine it.
Most should be generic but best to get in touch with the seller or manufacturer of your specific light. Otherwise you can try reaching out to some parts sellers (e.g. illumn.com, fasttech.com, kaidomain.com, etc.) provided you know the exact dimensions of your cap.
You need to takeoff and disassemble the end cap. After the end cap is off AND disassembled, just place the rubber cap back on top, then reassemble the end cap and screw it back on. It's that simple. You will need very fine needle-nose pliers to unscrew the inside of the end cap.
I haven't had direct experience w/that particular flashlight but perhaps you can reach out to the vendor you purchased it from for assistance. In a quick search, I found this article: www.infinitepowersolutions.com/alumitact-x700-flashlight/ perhaps you can use the contact info in there.
Thanks - just what I needed to see to fix a Coleman CT7 - removed the switch, took it apart, and cleaned up its contacts - good as new and didn't have to throw it away or buy a new switch.
What sucks is if you don't get it the first few tries you are basically striping your flashlight threads, I can't get my lumintop fwa to come undone no matter what I do, it's titanium so I just gave up.
Momentary is only possible with lights that have mechanical switches or electronic switches that are programmed with a momentary mode. It sounds like you have a reverse-clicky switch (light won't come on until after the click), you'll need to swap it out for a forward-clicky switch for your light (if available).
My tail cap is stuck It won't budge I have had people who lift 50 kg weights but can't get this base to open It's stuck what do I do Flashlight is Duracell 300
They should go for intensive training and try again when they can lift 100kgs :) Kidding aside, this will be really tough to fix since it sounds like you have severe battery corrosion and the tailcap threads are on the inside thus making it very difficult to get any solvent in there to free it up. You can search for threads around stuck Maglite tailcaps and follow the suggestions (like in this old thread but with still relevant tips: www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/maglite-tailcap-stuck.297146). Or I would just try contacting Duracell directly and mention that you're aware of the class action lawsuit (www.classaction.org/blog/in-the-dark-allegedly-defective-duracell-led-flashlights-drain-batteries-when-turned-off-class-action-lawsuit-claims) and just see if they'd kindly consider replacing your light - there's no guarantee they will but it couldn't hurt.
Most times you'll need to source it direclty form the mfr of your light but there can be occasions where the inside parts (e.g. switch, rubber tail cap, etc.) might be generic and you should be able to utilize a similar part provided the dimensions are the same.
You should be able to contact the manufacturer of your light; some models may use commonly used parts so you might be able to find a substitute from a different light. If you need further help, try hitting up one of the major forums like BLF, CPF or r/flashlight.
Idk how legit flashlight companies make any profit nowadays. I say this because you can buy a cree 1000lumen led flashlight on eBay for 5-10 bucks. And it works just a good. I recommend the brand orbtronic 18650 batteries because they last all day long. I really love these cheap flashlights. Get the ones that have a button style tail cap instead of the spring style tail cap. Over time the springs lose resistance and results the light to flicker.
Dam I just got a new blue stylus pro tighten to much and herd something snap no light my recharging stylus pro has stop this cheaper one stylus pro didn’t I kept tighten and herd snap
Thanks good video. What a pity that a 5 cent switch is the cause for this issue. I think every year some million of these flashlight are thrown to garbage due to this switch...
I've tried to fix my leftion switch on my trusty dog walking torch. The workings flew apart when I unsrewed it as the switch was loose. Spent ages trying to put it back together. Failed. To get some enjoyment from the hole sad process, I through it off a concrete wall and then smashed the remaining pieces with my trusty sledge hammer. That thing is f$cked now...proper f$cked! A stroke or a heart attack vs buying a new one from amazon (delivered to your door next day!)....went with the second option. I suggest everyone does the same, your cardiologist will thank you for it!
I wished someone would do a vid on wiring a pressure switch into flashlight tail cap, the old tail cap was going to be trashed so I cut off the big tail cap want to figure out how to wire it into my small tactical led flashlight. I gutted the tail cap, ten small red wire thru center hole soldered it to the spring that touches the battery, drilled holes and put black wire they hole so it would ground to flashlight body, ends not touching figured I could touch them after putting tail cap back on, but when I screwed cap back on light came on touched wires together nothing, I thought the light woukdnt come on til touched the two wires together. Trying to figure out how light is coming on and how to wire so light won’t come on when tail cap is out on abs touch wires together should come on, I’m smart but this throwing me fir a loop thanks anyone
Wished you would hv shown us dumb asses who hv tried numerous times how you connected the wires inside. I think I understand what you did m.(laying it against the side of casing and glued. But I drilled. Diagonal 1/16" hole into inside lip on mine and tinned the wires after I. Ent thin in half doubling the thickness and built up the wire with solder and pushed into hole. Other wire I soldered wire onto spring and used. jB weld to hold the spring in place. Hopefully I have the wires connected correctly cause polarity matters when using led lights. Before I had wire just forced Btwn cap threads and light stayed on always. Hopefully I had polarity backwards. Had a red wire and white wire coming out of pigtail. I used a bought pigtail and cut the cap off because it would not fit my light I am using a light just like yours. If not I guess I'll cut the wires on the outside and swap the around and head shrink the wiring do t know what else to do. I e typed everything into phone to Try and find how to wire pigtail into flashlight End cap thanks

How about on the XT808? Dropped it and there is no ring or washer, worked fine until then!
I don't have that particular light so can't comment but hopefully someone reading these comments can chime in.
Also, have you tried posting on any of the light forums (e.g. CPF or BLF), there are tons of knowledgeable folks who might be able to help.
Thanks - just what I needed to see to fix a Coleman CT7 - removed the switch, took it apart, and cleaned up its contacts - good as new and didn't have to throw it away or buy a new switch.
Excellent!
My cap is tight and can't open my flashlight to change the batteries. What can i do
Which flashlight are you having issues with?
What sucks is if you don't get it the first few tries you are basically striping your flashlight threads, I can't get my lumintop fwa to come undone no matter what I do, it's titanium so I just gave up.
I can’t get mine mine opens we’re the light is at
Sir how to make that flashlight button switch into momentary button!?
Momentary is only possible with lights that have mechanical switches or electronic switches that are programmed with a momentary mode. It sounds like you have a reverse-clicky switch (light won't come on until after the click), you'll need to swap it out for a forward-clicky switch for your light (if available).
Fixed 2 of my lights thanks.
My tail cap is stuck
It won't budge
I have had people who lift 50 kg weights but can't get this base to open
It's stuck what do I do
Flashlight is Duracell 300
They should go for intensive training and try again when they can lift 100kgs :)
Kidding aside, this will be really tough to fix since it sounds like you have severe battery corrosion and the tailcap threads are on the inside thus making it very difficult to get any solvent in there to free it up.
Where do you get tail caps from
Most times you'll need to source it direclty form the mfr of your light but there can be occasions where the inside parts (e.g. switch, rubber tail cap, etc.) might be generic and you should be able to utilize a similar part provided the dimensions are the same.
how do you get a new switch?
What pocket clip is that
They're the factory pocket clips that came with the lights (TG06 and VG10).
Dam I just got a new blue stylus pro tighten to much and herd something snap no light my recharging stylus pro has stop this cheaper one stylus pro didn’t I kept tighten and herd snap
actually power comes from negative side of battery and goes back in positive side. positive has a positive attraction of electrons..
Thanks good video. What a pity that a 5 cent switch is the cause for this issue. I think every year some million of these flashlight are thrown to garbage due to this switch...
Agreed, that is indeed a darn shame...
No retaining ring. Opened it shot apart. A cheapo Pro- 4 tactical.
Thank you
Thanks - much appreciated :-)
You're welcome!
Im out of luck,my tail switch ..no 2 holes :(

HI kindly help me in replacing Lumintop ODF30C on/off switch
Thanks but I need to see the switch itself disassembled .
Thx
G-shock in da house! :D
Thank You this has helped
You're welcome!

Swich Milta he kya
where are you from? lol first time I've ever heard someone pronounce "voila" like "voy-la"
lol busted... I'm definitely not a native French speaker ;o)
I e typed everything into phone to Try and find how to wire pigtail into flashlight End cap thanks
thanks for making this video. tho it was kind of hard to find. maybe change the title??? thanks tho
+BumSlayerS Thx for your comments, I'm glad you mentioned it since I was thinking about that when doing the title. What would you suggest?
Like your -Shock

Where can I purchase replacement switch?
Try reaching out to the manufacturer of your light; however, many lights use similar switches so you might be able to utilize a similar one from a different brand. Which model do you have?
