      Agreed, let's get rid of the Auto/start stop crap they put in my Nissan Truck and Honda car too. The recommended 0W-20 motor oil is a gimmick too just to squeeze a extra half mpg on your mileage. No thanks, it gets drained and I put 5w-30 in it the minute I bring the vehicle home.

    The problem is the government forcing the manufacturers to meet insane CAFE requirements. The end goal is EVs or just forcing people to not drive.

      ...Yes of course, the feds are passing a law banning sale of all new gasoline cars by 2035! If I still walk the earth by then, it sure will be interesting to see how simply BANNING 265 million vehicles will play out. But since it's from the government it's bound to go smoothly. I agree the 5.3 L V8 also have the same issues. They are basically the same as the 6.2 L V8’s I’m sure it’s gonna be a trickle down effect where once they figure out one has an issue it’ll quickly come to light that the others are also problematic. The cylinder deactivation system that causes all these issues as the same for both versions of the engine.

    GM knows exactly what they are doing and how reliable their engines are (remember the ignition switch part number fiasco). Here is the deal: GM tries to get higher mpg for the government at the expense of the consumer. I think mpg should be indexed to reliability for a more realistic way to improve mpg over time. Consumers are getting screwed over big time, and buying the overpriced crappy vehicles does not help the situation.

    Im a tech at GM Dealer and we see about 1 or two engine replacements a week all with the 6.2 noting to do with lifter failures either the main bearings or the rod bearings seize and lock ups the motor. I had one i was inspecting for a certification and it locked up on my lift immediately after a oil change. No signs of metal contamination and never knocked or made a sound. Most of the people who brings them in unfortunately say their motor locked up while driving. Which poses a huge safety hazard. Issue is so bad the 6.2 has been on backorder for over a year now. When people ask me which truck they should buy i tell them buy anyone that has a 5.3 or buy a 6.2 thats still within power train warranty

      Why are 5.3L better than 6.2L in this situation. Is it not as big as an issue with 5.3L or is it one of those things that will play out in the coming months and the 5.3L will soon be added to the list? I bought a Tahoe 5.3L but concerned. This is my first Chevy as I drove Toyotas for two decades. Toyota has their own issues right now so I decided to give Tahoe a try.

    I recently got rid of 2018 F 150 with engine that burned 1-2 quarts of oil every week starting at 65000 miles! It was the V8 engine as well. It was a company truck and was replaced with a Dodge ram 1500 so no cost to me but we had 20 of these and all had significant engine and transmission issues so quality issues are not confined to GM! Having said that last year in February my youngest leased a F 150 XLT with 3.5 EcoBoost and first 15000 miles zero issues! One thing I am doing is changing oil more frequently than 7500 miles. I think initial breaking in need to clean out the trash more often than first change at 7500! This has nothing to do with viscosity but getting the metal out of engine during its breaking in period and the more extreme heat you face, I live in Houston and temperatures hit 100 plus in May and stay above till September. Maybe I am wasting money, but engines used to last 150,000-200,000 miles with gas engines and lots more with diesel engines and now you are lucky with gas engines to get anywhere near that figure !

    They also need to do something about the garbage fuel pump module that is guaranteed to fail across many models from trucks and SUV's to crossovers and cars. They fail all of the time without warning leaving you stranded. To make matters worse, when it fails and the vehicle won't start, if it's equipped with an electronic shifter, you can't get it out of park to push it off the road. It has to be dragged onto a tow truck. It's literally dead where it sits. There should be an override to get the transmission into N on all of them if the vehicle is disabled and won't run. Every other manufacturer has one.

My question is can the lifters still fail? Should I just bite the bullit and consider changing the lifters to normal lifters. Or just selling it? Thanks in advance

      @@adalbertobarrera4130 to answer your questions if you have the AFM/DFM lifters yes it can still possibly fail. There have been many documented cases where people have the disabler and they still have a failure.
      As far as what you should do about it or with it, I can’t really answer that question everybody has different things going on. I cannot tell you to disable the system, although that would be a good thing for the engine to completely remove that junk from it. The oil pumps and oiling systems are diffeent between the L86 and L87. Don't let videos like this scare you in thinking you have a problem. This investigation has nothing to do with AFM/DFM. The EPA set a standard for all automotive manufacturers on what the gas mileage should be. However, with that said the EPA doesn’t tell the manufacturers how they should achieve that number therefore, this is solely on general motors. They designed the systems that are failing and these engines that are failing it is solely their responsibility for the design and failures! However I also don’t like how the EPA keeps raising the bar to these incredible high MPG’s that these engines have to achieve it gets to a certain point where an engine cannot get more and more efficient. They really need to cut out all that crap and let these engines do what they’re designed to do without restrictions on mileage.

    I have a 2017 Suburban with the 5.3 and AFM. A few years ago, I was told about an AFM/DFM disabler. It plugs into the OBD and keeps it in V8 mode at all times. Much cheaper than a $5000 repair. I bought the disabler on Amazon.

    That is one reason 1 1/2 years ago I bought a new Nissan Titan Pro4X. No cylinder deactivation. No stop/start. Hydraulic steering. 32 valve double overhead cam V8 engine that has been supplied in the Titans since they were first introduced in 2004. My first Nissan and I was 79 when I bought it. And I love it!

    Get the Ecotech3 5.3 liter without DFM, which they manufacture without & you'll be just fine. The 10 speed transmission starting in mid 21 models are just fine as well. DFM disablers are also available to those who have early 21 models & below... just so simple to overcome...

    Cylinder deactivation has been around for 25 yrs +/_ has never been perfected as not all drivers have the same driving habits . Its Much more involved than shutting off lifters. Basically it causes no oil to lifter and when it is supposed to restore that function it fails causing premature cam and lifter wear. Its a slow but steady death of an engine. Would you take your new Z28 Camaro to a dealer for a technician to change out parts not knowing if it was done right? This is a dilemma I would not risk as I believe that most dealers do not have trained skilled mechanics to tear down an engine that was factory assembled. This writing is a little dramatic as your car wont stall and cause an accident if you are aware that it is in trouble and needs service. I think if my vehicle that I may have ordered or waited to purchase had this issue I would want my money back!!

    • @TheEnthusiastMechanic
      @TheEnthusiastMechanic  18 днів тому +1

      According to the NHTSA and many owners in the forums these do fail without notice or any signs. Many have failed at cruising speeds where the engine stalls out and doesn’t restart and that is a big safety concern.
      I have friends that are GM techs they are capable of fixing the issue but when they are forced to use parts that are the same as the failed ones it just keeps happening.
      I have a customer where this happened to them and the dealership techs rebuilt the engine with what they were required to by GM warranty. Then fast forward a few thousand miles later same thing happened then GM gave them a whole new engine complete drop in and guess what 1 year later it failed the same way.
      These GM engines are similar designed to the engines that they were building years ago without the cylinder deactivation. I agree with you they haven’t perfected it. It’s not fair to put a technology in a vehicle that isn’t perfect that the consumer winds up paying the price for in the case of my customer, they dumped the truck after they got the engine warranty for the 3rd time and went and bought something else .

      @TheEnthusiastMechanic  11 днів тому

      That seems to be a norm that they are setting the standard to because of the problem but in no way shape or form is that normal direct injected engines do burn a little bit of oil but not 2 quarts in that amount of time typically about a quart every 5000 miles if that
