One of my favorites. This was the first arrangement of Jeremy's I ever heard. I found it by accident when searching for another setting of this same psalm while doing liturgy preparation. I remember thinking..."Wow! I wonder what lucky/blessed church community has a man as talented as THIS doing music ministry for them!? He writes his own psalm settings. How cool is THAT!?" I was hooked and "ministered to" personally in a profoundly new way ever since.
In the Catholic Lectionary Cycle, this psalm is assigned to Ordinary Time 10 - Year C. (In some years,...too many... this Sunday unfortunately gets skipped, due to the calendar.) The First Reading is from 1Kings 17, where Elijah revives the widow of Zerephath's son...and the Gospel is Luke 7, Jesus' raising the dead son of the widow of Nain. That's two widows...two sons...and a truckload of joy in the end!! I imagine those women probably felt in their hearts exactly the same joy communicated in this psalm setting! It's the perfect backdrop to these readings...and I mean PERFECT!

DIdn't realize this was the first arrangement you heard -- thanks so much for sticking around, man :-) Love your thoughts re: "2 widows, 2 sons, and a truckload of joy" (that sounds like a great album title, btw), so thanks for sharing that!

grundiguy P God help us all, if we *can’t* have a little fun worshiping! I’ll take any joy I can get in this realm of shadows and pain.

Jeremy Mayfield Hey, tell ya what, Jeremy... you finish the three year Psalter and I'll provide a companion to it with liturgical insights and refreshing outside-the-box anecdotes or images. Seriously, Jeremy, you need to keep writing Psalm arrangements..."Finish that Psalter." What a fabulous resource the core of your work is already. Just think what it would be as a complete three-year cycle! The value of people, especially musicians, being able to listen and be inspired in order to simply continue their work,...that alone, would be worth it's weight in gold.
I say this sensitively and carefully. No musician wants to feel like their gifts are regarded merely as a commodity, something to keep entertaining and feeding the appetites of consumers, who never seem satisfied, but rather just want more, more, more! "Sing us another one!"
Rather, I say this because the world needs it and you deserve the honor of being the one who makes it come about. You are a bright light amidst those shadows and pains of which you speak, and of which all of us are all too well aware.
Lastly, what a wonderful thing it would be if all of us out here could sing a song FOR YOU for once, in gratitude and thanksgiving for what you give.

Love the idea, brother -- you gotta deal! Thanks for spurring me onward in that task...finishing the 3-year cycle was my original game plan back when I began Sing A Psalm a couple of years ago, so I need the 'kick in the pants' to get back to it :-) The last 2 years have been overwhelming, but I'm hoping to 'come out on the other side' soon with the energy/focus needed to pick up the Psalter once again...Thanks again for your encouragement/admonition, man.

I like your arrangements of the Responsorial Psalms that I've been listening to and I appreciate the cord charts. However I would like the noted arrangements if you have them. Thanks keep up the great job

+BRUCE NUTTER Thanks so much for listening and for the encouragement, Bruce! Unfortunately, I don't have lead sheets for a lot of my arrangements at this time (just chord charts), but I hope to have those available in the future. Thanks again and peace be with you. :-)
