The culture critics are complaining about 1) the plot in Gladiator II not making any sense, 2) the insane narcissism of the lead actors in Wicked plus lengthening the first act to be longer than the entire show, and 3) bad hatchet writing on Moana 2. Nothing really to do with race.
It makes me wonder exactly who he is watching. I watch numerous "culture critics" and they haven't said anything JSG is claiming. Hell, JSG even referenced "the message" as a clear dig at Critical Drinker. Yet Drinker gave wicked a positive review.
@davidmun1601 He made a video primarily bashing the actresses unhinged response to the poster edit. As for trashing anything that doesn't star a white male, that is false. Not only does he also trash movies with white male leads if they are bad, but he gave movies and shows like One Piece, Fallout, M3gan, Prey and Beverly Hills Cop 3 positive reviews. All of them have female or POC leads.
@@46sn29 I used to follow The Drinker, but stopped because his reviews became too predictable, the message, reasons etc whenever a movie dared to show a male, especially white, character in a slightly negative light. Watch what he said about Sam Wilson being the New Captain America
Yeah a lot of people exaggerate or misrepresent what culture critics actually say. It basically becomes another form of stereotyping or straw manning that justsomeguy sometimes does.
Film Threat also liked it as did the WDWPro gang. The only guy I think of that didn't like it was Nerdrotic, but that was because he doesn't like musicals. He achknowledged that it was well made and would probably do well with its target audience. Most critics I saw hated Moana 2 which they say was a mess. But it's the most kid friendly film out there and so it's benefitting from that.
He pretty much compared Wicked to the Hobbit trilogy. Just like they made a short story into 3 over-bloated movies, they took a 100 minute stage play and trying to make 2 120 minute movies out of it.
Of course not. Good is always in the eye of the beholder. And sometimes there's also something to be said for things that are just dumb fun. But it does mean that, on average, people found it entertaining for some reason or another.
Wicked was being dissed for actress comments, not the show itself. Stage show was always popular. I think people were thinking the movie might get the Rachel Ziegler treatment. But Snow White also had other problems.
He is also strawmanning a bit with his accusations against the "culture critics". Especially with his claim that a movie staring a woman of color is something that we would automatically hate, which is blatantly false. NOBODY has a problem with people of color in movies when it makes logical sense for them to be there. There is a vast difference between a movie staring Polynesian characters set in the Polynesian Islands vs. BLack, Asian, or Latino characters in settings like Medieval Germany. This is why movies like Snow White get criticism while movies like Inside 2, Moana, and Coco don't receive backlash. And the other side is just as guilty about complaining about this stuff. They will happily call out movies like Exodus and God's of Egypt for having white actors in geographic settings that don't make any rational sense. Yet they turn a blind eye or will vehemently defend it when the situation is reversed. I think it's garbage all around. If the movie is set in Europe, it needs a cast to properly reflect that. If a movie is set in Ancient Egypt, then it also needs a cast that accurately reflects that as well.
@@46sn29 I would also prefer the third option of having everyone be of random ethnicities no matter the setting of the story over the much more common phenomenon of having just one or two characters look entirely different from the rest of their society and everyone acts like that's normal.
The reason you don't understand why there isn't salt for Moana 2 is because you have made strawman of the culture critics arguements. You sound spiteful that they are more successful in their lane.
When people say that a movie is not gonna do well, that’s a prediction not a lie. It’s only a lie if they continue to say it’s going to fail despite the numbers. People bet on sports teams and there are upsets.
Are the "culture critics" in here with us right now? This vid is nothing but strawmen. The most common negative review I've heard about Wicked was from guys who don't like musicals saying this didn't change their minds but that it would be huge with women.
@@davidmun1601 It is failing. Lost sales are lost sales. No international appeal and the insane actresses and their weird shared anorexia self deletion pact has made the mainstream.
_...sooo,_ basically, they bring out three incredibly 'mid' movies that do _moderately_ well after a long string of duds, then try to claim it as a W, eh? Weird flex, but, M-kay...
Beating a bunch of records is a bit different to "moderately" well Weird comprehension. That being said I wish they'd do more individuals numbers, not grouping. Feels like they're trying to imply/make one ride the tails of the others.

@@Jus7aguy "Beating a bunch of records is a bit different to "moderately" well" Inflation means that records are constantly being beaten since everything costs more.
@@PeteTheGrouch Let's see. Disney has the top two grossing movies of 2024, and 3 (so far) in the top ten. They have grossed more than other studio. Granted, 2023 was a bad year for them, but 2022, they had 4 movies in the top ten, with Avatar 2 leading the way with over $2 billion and Dr. Strange making over $900 million. How have they been starving?
There is one major problem with Moana 2. It is literally a compressed TV show made by a literal lesser animation studio. With that, I know Disney is going to take the message that they don't need to try for their movies and focus on releasing slop sequels to their hit movies to theaters since they are quicker and easier to make than things with actual artistic merit
Why are you blaming Disney for this? Take a look at this year and the box-office for the last few years. You will realize that the audience prefers sequels and remakes. At the moment, the top 12 movies are all either a sequel or a remake, Inside Out 2, Deadpool, Despicable Me 4, Dune 2 etc. Studios are in it to make money
I mean, Critical Drinker if all people, said Wicked was good. Personally, I thought the actress outrage was weird and just not a fan of musicals. Glad I didn't completely fall into the culture war lunacy.
Man this is some reach. What "Culture Critics" are you watching? Drinker said Wicked was a good movie. People only had issues with the actor going insane over nothing. Nobody has complained about Moana being female or a minority in the least. So not sure why you're bringing up something nobody is talking about. You're being disingenuous about this. Gladiator 2 was complained about because there was no reason for a sequel and the budget was ridiculous. You complain about narratives and lying yet you have your own narrative and make up your own headcanon about stuff like Moana.

I never heard anyone in the "culture critic" (if these are the people I think your talking about) side say moana 2 or wicked were going to bomb. In fact I heard the exact opposite. hell pretty much everyone agreed these two were going to make bank no matter the quality. Moana 1 was popular when it came out and got even more of an audience in streaming. Wicked is based on a long running and insanely popular Broadway show. The most negative I heard talk about Moana 2 was it had a chance of being meh since its a cobbled together TV series turned movie. Which going by reviews is what happened. Wickeds negativity came from the dumb ass actress though people like chris gore (which again I dont know if those are the type people your talking about) loved it as hes a fan of the musical as well.
The thing with these movies is they are made for their core audience. 1 for female 1 for male 1 for kids Not trying to make it for the entire world. Do that and people will come.
They put out a movie for kids and lady’s to see during the Thanksgiving break. It was a smart move. People had lots of time on their hands and hitting the movies wasn’t a bad call. I have no interest in these movies but they found their target audience. Let’s see if they keep that energy moving forward.
moana is a great movie that's only became more popular overtime, I'm not surprised it did well despite being dull, I didn't expect it to do THIS well though lol. I liked wicked tho Hollywood has finally relearned to hire actors who can sing for a musical lol
Personally I think Disney paid theaters to make Moana 2 a success. 2023 had one of the worst years for Disney movies, with every one flopping from their studios, with the exception of Elemetal making a comeback. And Wish was a collosal backfire by being a below average celebration movie, and the already more famous concept art that showed a much better film. Suddenly, this year every Disney movie has broken box office records at lightning speed, making over a billion dollars and up until Moana 2, critical and audience praise. Coincidence? I think NOT!
I didn't hear much hate from the angry nerd space regarding "culture". I don't think anyone doubted Wicked would make bank. The ones who don't like it (that I've heard) say it's because they aren't the target audience as opposed to messaging. Criticism around Moana 2 I've seen has nothing to do with a female lead - it was started as a tv show, so it appears kludged together, and the music isn't as good. Hardly railing about "The Message."
Same here, the reasons being is i hate musicals, and my sister growing up would sing the songs from wicked, over, and over, and over again. I can't describe how much I hate wicked now
I love the Broadway musical. And it's exactly because I love it that I do not want to watch the movie. Because the actress for the MC is a spiteful petty dog, it ruins what must be perfect for me to accept as a worthy successor.
I think the reason for the vast amount of hate on Wicked comes from the marketing campaign. It was supposed to be "almost obnoxious" and ended up just being completely freaking obnoxious with the hardcore theater kids reacting to everything making it even worse. Will I see it? Maybe after part 2 comes out and I can see a complete show. For now, Moana 2 is a complete story and people love it.
Now, I'm going to say this upfront. From everything I've heard Moana 2 was the most aggressively mid thing ever made. That it made that much money should be noted. However, it should also be noted that it was a hastily assembled movie made from an unfinished TV show. If Disney plans to make more like Moana 2 that should worry you because it was a lazily made mess. The other two? I haven't seen them yet or watched any reviews because the culture war screamed about it and I'm just not bothering with their reviews. All I can say is this seems to be a successful but messy box office weekend. That being said it is very telling how everyone was reacting to this and we should take note on how they reacted and more imporantly who walks it back to save face.
How it was made doesn't necessarily have any bearing on how good it was. I can't judge, since I haven't seen it, but some of my favorite movies that are pretty universally well regarded, like Back to the Future and Ghostbusters were complete shitshows during production and came together literally in the 11th hour. On the other hand, there have been movies with all the planning in the world that have come out mid or even complete garbage. Sometimes limitations can be the very thing that provides a unique spark.
@originaldarkwater Fair point. But this does come down to me actually hearing from non culture war people and a few massive fans on the first one saying they have issues with it.
The unfortunate thing here is that no matter how boring, mid, bad or all 3 the movie is, it'll still draw in the kids and their normie parents to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars because it's got a cute little princess on the front with the words "Disney" hanging over it. While great movies like The Wild Robot struggle, this slop will make bank and Disney will tout it as a triumph, and it'll happen all over again once that dog shit Mufasa movie comes out. Why, because the vast majority of adults don't care if an animated movie is good or not, it's 'just for kids'. Because who needs things like standards or expectations from movie companies when they can just push out mass appeal slop instead of a finely cooked meal?
Michael Bay's "Transformers" movies made a lot of money in the box office but no one is calling them classics nowadays. Sometimes men go to the movies for the spectacle and loud explosions (hence Gladiator 2's success). The other 2 movies success is due to sticking to what the core audience wanted and lore friendly which is what most critics (JSG included) constantly encourage studios to do and criticize them when they don't (like in Rings of Power).
Making money doesn't mean a movie is good. Not making money doesn't mean a movie is bad. If you believe otherwise, I hope you consider Twilight and 50 Shades as cinematic masterpieces and Fightclub as trash. These movies only prove the one thing needed for a successful film: a target audience and reasonable budget. Hence, the Fast and inFinity movie we will all be subjected to in the future. I hope it never ends. A family film with no extra nonsense will make bank in this climate. A musical targeting female audiences will make bank in this era of too many poorly written "girlbosses." Nobody knows what movie will stick, but the ones not actively destroying their storylines for cheap identity points have a decent shot.
People and articles are acting fucking dumb. There's not much happening and you have 3 movies out. Are they great? Not at all but they are something to take the family, the spouse, a homie, basically it was something out and to do during a holiday period. These movies are safe and mid for their audiences it's really not surprising.
Did you a actually watch critical drinker's review? I don't think so because he said it was good. I haven't watched it myself and probably won't be watching it because I don't watch musicals.
You are very insigtful, but for some reason you have a blind spot or poor understanding of the "right wingers". Stories about different cultures were never a problem. Sure you might find some people who are genuinely hateful to anyone different, but that is in no way representative or a majority view. It would be like saying all "left wingers" are self hating narcissists or whatever.
This time you are off. "The culture critics" on youtube mostly said that Wicked is well made for its female target audience and musical lovers. Still it had a 350 Mio. production budget and a mind numbing half a billion promo budget. It must make about 1.7 billion at the box office to break even. Moana 2 has a super bland boring story with good animation and is a hastily cut together TV series, so many things in the plot don't make sense. Gladiator 2 is just a bad copy of the first movie with new actors and not a single new idea.
The Critical Drinker spoke highly of Wicked for what it is. I hate deconstructions, and I enjoyed Wicked. As an adaptation of a Broadway musical to film, it was good.
Second weekend drop is usually the real indicator for if a movie can be considered a success. All three of these films have the chance to keep audiences, but all have the chance to flounder in the second week if word of mouth is negative.
Why not? The first one did everything right. No forced diversity, no gender or race swap of existing characters, not a single line in the entire movie suggesting that Moana is better than everyone because she's a girl, every ability she has is earned and the male lead is not getting ridiculed in every single scene (nor is Moanas father). Nothing in any of the trailers I've seen suggests that this one is switching to full agenda driven slop so personally I would go to the cinema for this one.
@@catsithx There's not much else in cinema if you want to go with children but it wouldn't be the first time that movies that are sold out don't even fill half the cinema. Disney is desperate for a win too so maybe it's more than just a conspiracy?
I would imagine from the ads i've seen that moana 2 is just a "more of the same" style of sequel. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like the second one, and a lot of people liked the first one...maybe not enough to see it in theatres, but it picked up a following after.
I didn't see Moana, my daughter wanted to see Wicked, which I thought was an outstanding movie. I dragged a bit, but everything else, the visuals, the acting, most definitely the singing were outstanding. I was skeptical about Ariana Grande as Galinda, but she did a really good job.
Did someone complain about women and the rock in moana? I dont watch any of them so the only time I hear their whinging is from zack, and I didn't see him whinge about them whinging. I didn't even know moana 2 was coming, and I got 4 dang kids. lol They're gonna wanna see this. My best friend looks exactly like the* moana dude. The rocks character...
I was there for Red One with a friend so I was confused why I was standing in line. I didn't realize Gladiator and Moana were gonna smash as hard as they did. I figured Wicked might be a flash in the pan then quickly die off. Like, why did people suddenly get interested in movies again?
How long did you spend looking for these critics of wicked I literally haven't seen any saying it's bad on the contrary most have sed it's its good or worst I have seen is someone saying I didn't like it but it will do well with people into musicals
So I guess the question is what is so different this year as opposed to the last few. Are people happier and more willing to go out and watch movies to celebrate the holiday? Are more people unhappy and looking for a distraction from the reality they find themselves in? Were these films just really good and word of mouth got people out to see them? Was it because of the genres of these films?🤔
It's amazing Moana 2 is doing so well. It actually started off as a TV series before Bob Iger decided to splice together episodes of the series to make this movie.. For that it is a bit choppy. I think part of this success comes from the fact that Moana (original) had just completed a highly successful run on Disney +. Is it possible that the reason for the high box office results is related to relief for the end of a tumultuous election season?
Gladiator 2 is basically a remake of Gladiator. So the same people who watched Gladiator would bring their “kids” to see Gladiator 2. There is an audience for that I guess… regarding Moana 2, my kids aged out watching that, but they did enjoy 1. The critics haven’t been so kind to it online… but then maybe people just wanted to see a feel good movie and not have to think about it…. My 2¢
I went to see it, and I heard it was supposed to be a D+ series cut into a movie. That made sense because a lot of elements were underused or undeveloped in my opinion. The songs were also pretty forgettable. That said, put my dollar in the Disney Tin Cup over the holidays, so there is that.
Having seen Moana 2, it really does feel like three episodes of a show that was supposed to happen that didn't, like we're going back to the straight to DVD sequel days. As for what you're saying about The Culture Critics, you're kind of wrong on this one. So far most of them are saying Wicked was a good movie (I thought it was boring but my wife loved it). It's a bit too long but not too preachy. Not sure which critics you're talking about here.
Haven't seen any of those movies, but I kind of get it to a degree. Gladiator was a great movie, the sequel? From what I've heard: not as much, but people tend to remember it was a good movie and could be interesting. Same with Moana 2. The first movie wasn't bad. Sure, it wasn't the best thing ever but it was entertaining. And I think kids liked it alot, so you might have families going to watch part 2. Wicked? According to some I've heard it isn't that bad. But as I said, didn't see it What will be interesting is the question of: do they keep making money, or will it dry up? Because that often depends on the quality of the movie (not always, but often)
Who are these “culture critics”? You make a bunch of claims without citing anyone specific so it is difficult to buy your argument, especially since the “culture critics” I watch like Drinker were very fair to these movies.
I felt like there were a few scenes that were missing from Moana 2, and I’m willing to bet those were “woke” but because of the success of inside out 2 they cut those scenes and it literally paid off
[Desperation to ensure the cinemas stay open when streaming ventures are dye-ying on the vine! By rights, these should've been straight to DVD films! Hearing tell it was a one-time watch and even then uninspired plotlines! Still, a home-theatre is best!🤷🏻♂️]
Moana 2 wasn’t even a good movie. It’s amateur at best… but a lot of people didn’t know what it was about due to poor advertising. Hence the interest to a household Disney name and the overwhelming success. I won’t lie to you though, I thought the story, characterizations, and animation were trash compared to the original. No real heart behind its creation and not any real substance. It’s worth a skip
Just be honest. When you say culture critics say the conservative critics. And they are split on wicked. Many have enjoyed it and many have not. And in regards to gladiator two I have never heard anyone complaining about the budget but rather the storytelling. And it's obvious when you said the message that you are referring to pacifically what the critical drinker says. And it is obvious that you don't understand what the message is. While overall I do appreciate your commentary in regards to the quality of films and how they are made, you don't understand what conservatives have against modern day Hollywood.
None of these movies interest me. Until Hollywood makes something I actually like, I refuse to partake in this foolishness. Also, just because something makes A billion dollars doesn't mean it's good. (Looking at YOU, 'Barbie') Mediocrity should NOT be rewarded!
The people who watched 'Gladiator 2' expected something good, but got garbage. 'Moana 2' is simply a good kids movie that happens to have a female lead, the is no 'the message' in the Moana movies or people would've torn them apart. I think this is the first time I've downvoted a JSG video ever.
I havnt seen any of these movies and don't intend to, but "culture critic's", like yourself, are my only info on them, I've heard that the Gladiator movie is quite bad and just basically a beat for beat remake of the original with nothing new to add. And that the Wizard of oz thing is pretty good as family entertainment goes (despite the race swapped main character). Mowanna or whatever I just have no interest in but that's because it's for kids and injected with girl bossery but what kids movie isn't these days!
Wicked is a fanfiction of The Wizard of Oz. It's one of those: "The villain was nEvEr bAd!" garbage. Also, these people aren't counting for inflation. If you do, musicals such as The Sound of Music and Grease still do better financially by miles.
2:45 Nobody thinks Moana 2 was going to be a woke thing, nobody. It's a disney princess childrens film; They've been going around the world with those since before I was born. It's disney's involvement in star wars and marvel that people are talking about. Bro, you've got to get over your twitter grudges. This is obnoxious.
It's been a while since I watched an animated movie. I saw Frozen and Inside Out years back - I enjoyed the former but the twist villain remains pants on head stupid to this day, and Inside Out I never understood why it was so great. Never saw Moana, but now I am curious about Inside Out 2 and Moana 2, so I guess I'll give the first Moana a try, Sill can't scrape any interest for Frozen 2 though.
2:49 Literally no one says that. None of the "culture critics" say a film is bad because of a woman lead. You're making the same strawman as the wokescolds.
Honestly, it sounds like you're trying to strawman this whole video? 1. For Wicked, people were ragging on the actress, like her claiming it was racist for someone to edit the poster to look either like the book cover or plays poster, with the only complaint levied against the film is the padding in an attempt to stretch a play into two 120 hour films 2. the plot of the gladiator sequel not making a lick of sense 3. Moana 2 , just because it sold well, doesn't mean it's good. It was meant to be a TV mini-series before ditching it for a full length film, which explains the choppiness of the writing. Like Maui losing his tattoos, thus his divinity. you'd think that would let him see the world through the eyes of a mortal human, and learn something, but nope. Gains them back like a minute later. Or the main villain(s) only being shown after the end credits ala Thanos
It's not just the value of the Dollar. Cinema tickets have increased in price far more than normal goods. Go back and find a ticket to Star Wars. It was 50p to see it in 1977. Now you have to pay over 20 times that for a basic ticket. The inflation adjusted lists don't even come close to that multiplier.
Wicked was almost always going to perform as the cross section of it's audience overlaps well with Barbies ( Women, LGBTQ) and hear tell it is actually a good movie ( not a guarantee of success, but it doesn't hurt) And Moana 2, really any family movie, released around Thanksgiving, will at least overperform. The fact is that family movies are built in money makers. You can't hand a 6 year old $40 for a ticket and concessions and let them got to see Moana 2. No you pack up the wife and kids and a minimum of 3-4 people are going to see the movie for the enjoyment of the youngest one whereas if say I want to see Gladiator 2, that's just 1 ticket and possibly concessions purchases.

You’re not supposed to argue with outrage merchants because it’s kayfabe; they’re insincere. It’s like telling a wrestling heel, no my hometown doesn’t suck. It’s not meant to be genuine, just evoke a reaction
If you make a joke about how they’d never see Wicked, regardless if there was controversy; you’ll be called a SJW Troll. They were really depending on the drama tanking the movie, now all they have left is to talk about how Brave New World will bomb.
If Gladiator 2 makes 400mio, that means, they lost quite a lot of money. A movie with a budget of 250mio, depending on how much is spend on marketing, has to make at least 700mio to 800mio to break even. Movies with a budget of 250mio are basically forced to come close to a billion, to make a good profit at the boxoffice.
Cultural Critics just like bitching about everything cause that's their paycheck. Sometimes it's warranted, but a lot of the time it's just trying to find something to make content on. Their audiences are tired of the Trump victory lap so...Wicked is garbage or something because the actors are liberals (which, duh...they all are). I will agree with them on Gladiator 2 though - it's a historically inaccurate retread that no one asked for that somehow is getting numbers due to name value. Plus if you're a guy and your options for Thanksgiving are "the woman's movie" or "the kids movie", maybe Gladiator sounds the best.
The culture critics are complaining about 1) the plot in Gladiator II not making any sense, 2) the insane narcissism of the lead actors in Wicked plus lengthening the first act to be longer than the entire show, and 3) bad hatchet writing on Moana 2. Nothing really to do with race.

Wicked was being dissed for actress comments, not the show itself. Stage show was always popular. I think people were thinking the movie might get the Rachel Ziegler treatment. But Snow White also had other problems.
Moana 2's box office win will have severe repercussions
Adding to the flame of Inside Out 2 being a success.
Tell that to the parents who don't know any better
Yay. More sequels we all hate but for some reason keep feeding money to. Plus it encourages more live action remakes.
Just like how sub par Disney Channel crap succeeding will have severe repercussions.
Remember the Disney DVD sequels? It'll b more of that.
Im curious on who JSG is actually talking about here. I havent really seen any unfair reviews from anyone.
Whatever you say, Disney fanboy. lmao
I have read TONS of comments who predicted that Wicked would fail. They are still in denial about its success
@@davidmun1601 It is failing. Lost sales are lost sales. No international appeal and the insane actresses and their weird shared anorexia self deletion pact has made the mainstream.

Weird flex, but, M-kay...
Beating a bunch of records is a bit different to "moderately" well
Weird comprehension.
That being said I wish they'd do more individuals numbers, not grouping. Feels like they're trying to imply/make one ride the tails of the others.
@@Jus7aguy Well, you need to take into account that, after so long being starved for any decent content, even the most mediocre of movies probably seem like masterpieces compared to the slop they've been churning out for the past few years... hence the unexpectedly high returns.

"Beating a bunch of records is a bit different to "moderately" well"
Inflation means that records are constantly being beaten since everything costs more.
@@uanime1 That's true but if it were that easy to "beat" records, those records would be beaten every week.
As opposed to figuratively a compressed TV show?
@slashbash1347 Yes because they cancelled a Moana TV show and turned an arc of it into the movie.
So, basically, what Disney did a lot of back in the 90s/early 00s? Crap out lazy sequels of low to ok overall quality?
@InfernosReaper Mostly but Disney usually just released them straight to VHS/DVD and not to theaters
3 films I've heard "The Culture Critics" talk about and you misrepresented the lot of them to swing at strawmen. You're better than this.
It's almost like he's just doing this to distance himself from being perceived as too right-leaning or something
He isn't anymore. The whole Florida kick the perverts out of schools bill did for him.
I mean, Critical Drinker if all people, said Wicked was good. Personally, I thought the actress outrage was weird and just not a fan of musicals. Glad I didn't completely fall into the culture war lunacy.
Meh, I don't care.
Maybe, or you guys are coping for your favorite youtubers and because you don't like criticism.

It’s called inflation.
The thing with these movies is they are made for their core audience.
1 for female
1 for male
1 for kids
Not trying to make it for the entire world.
3:43 from what I've the culture critics are at best meh on Wicked, I don’t understand what you mean saying they hated it but alright.
And most of those "meh" reviews i've seen have admitted themselves that they're not the target audience cause they don't even like musicals too.
moana is a great movie that's only became more popular overtime, I'm not surprised it did well despite being dull, I didn't expect it to do THIS well though lol.
Now readjust for inflation.
And for losing over 80% Sunday to Monday. That's an insane drop.
Don't care how petty it sounds. I wanted to see Wicked get beaten. Don't care what movie did it
At least you're honest.🤷🏿♂️
Why
Same here, the reasons being is i hate musicals, and my sister growing up would sing the songs from wicked, over, and over, and over again. I can't describe how much I hate wicked now
Enemy of my enemy type of shit...
@originaldarkwater
Fair point.
Biggest Thanksgiving box office in history? But Gladiator 2 is so bad. And Moana 2 is so bad. 😂
A musical targeting female audiences will make bank in this era of too many poorly written "girlbosses."
Nobody knows what movie will stick, but the ones not actively destroying their storylines for cheap identity points have a decent shot.
both were ok
People and articles are acting fucking dumb.
There's not much happening and you have 3 movies out. Are they great? Not at all but they are something to take the family, the spouse, a homie, basically it was something out and to do during a holiday period.
These movies are safe and mid for their audiences it's really not surprising.
Moana had good word of mouth and u think that partially explains the sequels success.
I could care less. There's only one movie this year and possibly onward I'm intrested in watching, which is Sonic 3.
"Wickiatorana"
That at least makes sense.
There's a Moana 2 movie?
Did you a actually watch critical drinker's review? I don't think so because he said it was good.
I haven't watched it myself and probably won't be watching it because I don't watch musicals.
You are very insigtful, but for some reason you have a blind spot or poor understanding of the "right wingers". Stories about different cultures were never a problem. Sure you might find some people who are genuinely hateful to anyone different, but that is in no way representative or a majority view. It would be like saying all "left wingers" are self hating narcissists or whatever.
I personally think that as long as the product is good, then it is good, and people will watch it.
You have no idea who he is referring to, though. How can you know what their opinion is?
A child will watch anything in the same way a starving man will eat anything.
there's a cinema in the philippines that used an ai generated pregnant moana printed on their tickets, what the H?

The people love slop! All hail slop! Slop for the slop god!
This might be the most real answer I've heard. Ever.
But I don't like 'slop'.
Moana didn't change the character, it's from original story. I celebrate good original movies.
This one sounds like someone told you what people said over looking yourself.
The kids. The kids made the difference for Moana
Wow didnt expect mona 2 to do that good.
@David_randomnumber yes but not that much. I wa expecting like 100 or 120 or what it made.
@@catsithx There's not much else in cinema if you want to go with children but it wouldn't be the first time that movies that are sold out don't even fill half the cinema. Disney is desperate for a win too so maybe it's more than just a conspiracy?
@David_randomnumber just realize two of those that did good this holiday weekend was Disney movies.
I would imagine from the ads i've seen that moana 2 is just a "more of the same" style of sequel. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like the second one, and a lot of people liked the first one...maybe not enough to see it in theatres, but it picked up a following after.
Sad, lazy take dude. I’m disappointed, since I expected better of you.
I kind of want to watch Wicked.
It looks decent, but the main character just looks so old for the role. It feels weird.
She is old. 38 playing 18.
L take.
Nobody complained lol i think he's just creating strawmen for the video
No, nobody complained about that
They only said it was a mid lazy movie. 😊
I keep seeing that rock formation and thinking Miquella is gonna step out
Gladiator 2 is basically a remake of Gladiator. My 2¢
I heard the story of Moana 2 was dull. Is it true?
Either way, I still no longer trust Hollywood. They insulted us patrons too much.
I went to see it, and I heard it was supposed to be a D+ series cut into a movie. That made sense because a lot of elements were underused or undeveloped in my opinion. The songs were also pretty forgettable. That said, put my dollar in the Disney Tin Cup over the holidays, so there is that.
4:57 for exqmple, the best batman movie EVER; batman: mask of the phantasm
Having seen Moana 2, it really does feel like three episodes of a show that was supposed to happen that didn't, like we're going back to the straight to DVD sequel days.
As for what you're saying about The Culture Critics, you're kind of wrong on this one. So far most of them are saying Wicked was a good movie (I thought it was boring but my wife loved it). It's a bit too long but not too preachy. Not sure which critics you're talking about here.
We are getting all these closeted culture critics fans upset
Moana exists because of Far Cry 3! Change my mind!
Haven’t heard good reviews of any of these movies. Especially for Gladiator 2.
HOLLYWOOD DOESN'T GET MY MONEY...NEVER. 😑
Remember when Captain Marvel made a billion dollars and still sucked ass? Pepperidge Farms remembers
But as I said, didn't see it
What will be interesting is the question of: do they keep making money, or will it dry up? Because that often depends on the quality of the movie (not always, but often)
Moana 2's songs were a bit mid.
Between bad and mid, let's be honest
This is the first time I hear of moana 2 did they no marketing for this movie?
Moana The Last Disney Princess 😂
Sounds really weird to say "race-swapped" when the character is literally entirely green
However, the characters and story would suck.
Wicked is a fanfiction of The Wizard of Oz. It's one of those: "The villain was nEvEr bAd!" garbage.
Also, these people aren't counting for inflation. If you do, musicals such as The Sound of Music and Grease still do better financially by miles.
Light years.
Never saw Moana, but now I am curious about Inside Out 2 and Moana 2, so I guess I'll give the first Moana a try,
Sill can't scrape any interest for Frozen 2 though.
Watch Puss in Boots 2, The Wild Robot, and The Bad Guys. All three are really good movies. You are doing yourself a disservice by skipping those.
Good for Disney. I guess.
It wouldn’t be the first time a lousy movie like Moana 2 made bank. Just look at the Bayformers movies.
2:49 Literally no one says that. None of the "culture critics" say a film is bad because of a woman lead.
You're making the same strawman as the wokescolds.
Honestly, it sounds like you're trying to strawman this whole video?
1. For Wicked, people were ragging on the actress, like her claiming it was racist for someone to edit the poster to look either like the book cover or plays poster, with the only complaint levied against the film is the padding in an attempt to stretch a play into two 120 hour films
2. the plot of the gladiator sequel not making a lick of sense
Cinema is now solely meant for children and the growing horde of American adult children. I miss the
It's not just the value of the Dollar. Cinema tickets have increased in price far more than normal goods. Go back and find a ticket to Star Wars. It was 50p to see it in 1977. Now you have to pay over 20 times that for a basic ticket. The inflation adjusted lists don't even come close to that multiplier.
Wicked was almost always going to perform as the cross section of it's audience overlaps well with Barbies ( Women, LGBTQ) and hear tell it is actually a good movie ( not a guarantee of success, but it doesn't hurt)
And Moana 2, really any family movie, released around Thanksgiving, will at least overperform. The fact is that family movies are built in money makers. You can't hand a 6 year old $40 for a ticket and concessions and let them got to see Moana 2. No you pack up the wife and kids and a minimum of 3-4 people are going to see the movie for the enjoyment of the youngest one whereas if say I want to see Gladiator 2, that's just 1 ticket and possibly concessions purchases.
the lgbtqpMAP+++ make up less than 2% of the population. No film, show, book, game or other product can be successful appealing to the gays ahead of the normal men.
I'm not interested in any of these movies. I don't care if they succeed or fail.
Moana 2 is terrible
god its depressing that that absolute slop made so much money. shit felt AI generated. No I didn't pay to see it I pirated like 30 minutes and turned it off. absolute trash.
Imo, Moana 2 was 💩, the story is wack and the music is terrible, none of the songs are memorable at all in comparison to the 1st one, the most interesting part is the witch thats gonna happened in the 3rd movie😂 and the coconut little guys. I went with my family and ended up thinking why I didnt see Wicked, this movie is a cashgrab!!. The problem with Gladiator 2 is that you have to compare it with the 1st one, and theres no comparison because the 1st is legendary and the second one is meh, special effects are also not that great in certain parts like.... the monkeys😅.
I unfollowed a lot of the culture critics when I realized they just liked to complain.
It will bomb. JSG's gone insane.
