I have always been told to open the caliper bleed valve when retracting caliper pistons to prevent back flushing contaminated brake fluid into the master cylinder. Great video presentation.

Great video! Please put a jackstand under that vehicle after you jack it up. I was nervous the whole time I watched with the van just supported by the jack. You do a great job in your videos.

I can remember years ago as an apprentice the head mechanic barking at me if I was trying to do a quick job using the floor trolley jack without using jack stands. @Mercedes Sprinter DIY, it would awful to see you get injured making great content.

Couldn't agree more - got my Crafter camper in bits doing the front brakes. That jack is really extended and wobbly to reach the jacking point. I went to my local timber yard and cut up some garden sleepers for blocks as a cheaper alternative to expensive axle stands.
Good stuff but stay safe! You really don't want several tonnes of van sitting on you.

Have your brakes been performing as expected? Any issues? Would you still recommend this kit? I generally like to purchase OEM.

FYI you dont put grease on the metal retainers. Never put grease near your pads, you'll end up contaminating them.

I add some 4 x 4 and 2 x 6 wood blocks like building a brick wall. 3 each per layer and put it under another suitable location and leave a bit of gap incase the jack collapses.

I paid the dealer $1200 USD for front axel only... and this was all they did? ROBBERY. Thank you for your video. I have ordered the kit and hope you get the affiliate link. Is there anything needed for the warning system internally in the van? When my front brakes went out on a road trip, we had a very limited time to drive the van before it would limit us down to 5 mph. If you have changed the oil, it would be something like the reset of the counter... Either way, great video and very cool of you to do this for us.

You should provide torque specs for each type if bolt. Go watch FCP Euro videos they tell you the exact sockets sizes and torque specs.
You leave a lot of out of these videos. You can do better.

  • @NIZAROLAZ

First mistake you did is leaving the vehicle raised on the jack only! those bottle jacks will slip easily and the van will land on your head!
Raise the van at the dedicated jack points and always use jack stands that are rated for the correct weight.
Also the reservoir should not overflow once you replace pads unless you added more fluid before.
it's a good practice to flush the brake fluid atleast once a year to have fresh and clean fluid free from moisture that builds up in the fluid because of it content

    • @mercedessprinterdiy8556

No need just use the caliper opening toot and you will save time and money , hope the best for you👍

    • @mattydare
      @mattydare 2 роки тому +1

I would recommend bedding the new pads/discs in with some harsh braking for a few miles spesh before you drag anything big and heavy then just open the bleed nipples slightly 1 at a time to release any small air bubbles. You won't need to pump the pedal as brake systems usually are under a small pressure (around 5psi I think) to take up any lag.
Old UK pre MOT trick from before vacuum assisted braking systems. You'd be surprised how small bubbles can make for a spongy pedal. It turns a good brake pedal into a brilliant brake pedal.
Don't forget to check your brake fluid every time you work on your brakes. By keeping an eye on the level you can tell if you have issues.

But maybe you bought yours use with a lot of miles is that your case?
