    Energy became so expensive that we had our gas disconnected (still pay standing order just in case) and have had this stove for nearly 3 years I think.
    It really is good, cheaper and homely but with some work. We originally bought kiln dried, ready logs in ton bags but the price kept going up with each order. Luckily my husband bumped into a tree surgeon in our neighbourhood and he now delivers chopped down trees etc.
    We are now in a position where we use a log splitter and can store/season the wood for the next year or two. To be safe we also use a moisture meter confirming that the wood meets legal requirements for usage in the stove plus burns really well.
    We do pay a service charge annually for a check up of the chimney. The system is connected to a heat hero that controls the central heating in the house.
    We have an Aspect 14 with built in back boiler. Really recommend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

      That sounds cool, and I’m a big fan of preparing your own fuel. Definitely the thing to do for sustainable and cost effective heating.

    Gabriel.... We have this exact stove in the farmhouse and giving is 5/10 on lighting is very harsh 🙈 I have our stove blazing away in minutes ...
    It's directly air fed .
    Get it on an elevated log stand as it tries to melt your eyes!!
    Heat proof gloves are pretty useless , thick welder gloves are better.
    On willow / alder she will eat an IBC cage in 5 to 7 days running continuously.
    She gets that hot in the kitchen that my old man has to get his breakfast bowl out the night before and put it in the fridge as he says hot cornflakes are awful .
    I have boiler sized logs currently drying for next year and oak already drying for 3 years time!!
    Can you please test the Termatec TT20 for your watchers...
    I have heated my 3 bedroom home for , this will be my 3rd winter with this stove, we have only been burning conifer, willow & alder and I've still had a few glowing embers after 9 hours, I'm absolutely amazed. It does have a direct air feed fitted this year & runs far better now, I would ALWAYS have a direct air feed now.
    Best regards buddy

    Hi Gabrielle, when you did a review of a smaller Aspect a few years ago you were mildly critical of the control lever as most of the control it gave was in the last 20% of its travel. But on this version you were more positive. Just wondered if they are different or have perhaps Hunter stoves modified the design over the years to achieve a more linear control?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  9 місяців тому

      Yea, I think this one was better as it definitely didn’t shine out as an issue like it did on the 5.

    Rough price please? looks like just what I need. I'd put it on a concrete hearth to soak up the heat and radiate back into the room when it's done burning and I buy the log store and load it with rocks. great review.

    That looks like a great stove, btw, managed to solve the smoke problem from before - its hard to tell exactly what the issue was but fitted a chimney extender of 30cm, also removed horizontal stove extension pipe into room - works fab now, very occasional bit of smoke but noticed you have this also, opening the door slowly 👌

      hi did you find the stone underneath gets to hot to tuch like he said, also can you damp it right down so you just get the gentle secondry burn licks of flame

  • @robertpeel3087
    @robertpeel3087 Місяць тому

    I have had this stove a few months now. We find it takes quite a while to get up to flue temperature and we’re not sure whether leaving the door ajar helps or hinders. Would love to hear others’ experiences. We are burning dry pine

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  Місяць тому +1

      The fuel is probably the issue. Dry pine weighs very little, so 5 logs perhaps have the same calorific value as 1 oak log. Therefore if you put 2-3 beech, oak or ash logs into this stove, you’ll get it to temperature and run it potentially for hours. You would perhaps need to burn as much as 3X with pine.
      Perhaps try adding much more fuel, or re-loading it twice as often, as this should drive temperatures up. I very much suspect it’s a calorie issue, more than a stove one.

    • @robertpeel3087

      Thank you. Makes sense and I’ve certainly noticed that more is more with the pine.

    Excellent review. The specs say 10 cm to rear combustibles surely that can't be right for a beast like this?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  9 місяців тому +1

      Certainly sounds a bit mental, but it does have quite a good rear heat shield. The heat going out the sides, front, top and base was certainly significant.

    Great video thanks. Did you try and run it overnight? I know you're not supposed to, but we all do!
    I have a Charnwood Island 5kw atm, but I have a large old house and the firebox volume in it just isn't big enough. We can't get large logs in. We burn a mixture of coal and wood in it, to keep us going longer. But I'm thinking if I bought this, I could move over to 100% wood, and it will A) hold enough fuel to heat the house well, and B) potentially be controllable enough to burn all night...
    What do you think? thanks!

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  4 місяці тому

      It burns overnight very well. I test every stove on overnight use, and this stove is certainly very capable. I think given your planned use, this would be a great option.

      @@TheTortoise thanks a lot that's great. I've just realised the hunter herald 14 is also a contender! Looks to be similar, just a more traditional looking stove. thanks a lot.

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  4 місяці тому

      I would definitely suggest the Parkray, over the Herald in this case. The Herald is more focused on look and evening use, where as the Aspect has dramatically more internal space, and also no grate so it is focused on wood burning. Both can run overnight but it is much harder to achieve with the Herald.

      @@TheTortoiseok great, well that’s that decided then!!
      I’m really wanting a bigger firebox volume, so the aspect 14 seems like the best choice.
      I go through tonnes of firewood every winter, and cut and split myself, so it makes sense to keep the logs as long as possible, as you mentioned in your video. Thanks!

    I have the 14b boiler stove. I have an air problem with it or the system it is plumbed into. On your website there is a review from someone saying they bought 2 of these and both had to be returned because of bad welds causing leaks. How would this show itself? Anyone had any issues like this? There is constant air in the stove circuit and neither me or my installer can work out where it is coming from. Any help appreciated. Other than that, it’s a lovely stove and burns very cleanly.

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  15 днів тому

      If the air is in the primary gravity fed loop, then this sounds like the system may have been designed incorrectly. Generally the pipes should always be inclined so air naturally rises to the top, if it isn’t, then air will get locked at the point that the pipes aren’t inclined.
      Is there anything on your system that could be causing this air lock?

    • @bilbobiggens3206

      @@TheTortoise Thanks for the reply, thought the comment hadn’t appeared! I’m pretty sure the pipework is all as it should be. It has an LK load valve for efficiency and yes all pipes rise from the stove. The air could climb and be vented into the header and the pump should also send it that way but although it pushes some out, it seems to be generating more air somehow and never gets it all out. I think we need to pressure test the stove to rule it out. My installer has fitted loads of these systems but is still baffled. Just found the comment tonight on your website page reviewing these stoves and it has made me wonder! Thanks again.

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  15 днів тому

      Interesting. I definitely don’t think it’s the stove, because gravity would dictate that air getting in should be impossible, but something strange is happening for sure.

    Would you choose this over the Blithfield 8 ?

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  8 місяців тому

      Well if I wanted the biggest output then yes, no doubt. The Blithfield is lovely, tough and functional, but definitely couldn’t compete with this from an output point of view. From a quality etc it’s obviously fantastic, so no issue from that point of view, it’s just their potential power that is quite different.
      (Worth knowing that a lot of quoted outputs are manipulated to support a particular marketing strategy. Make no mistake the Aspect 14 is a significantly more powerful stove than the Blithfield 8)

    • @TheTortoise
      @TheTortoise  9 місяців тому

      Yea that’s the strange thing. Eco-Design generally has a minimum efficiency of 75%. I realise there is more to the story than that, but given how efficient they are, I would expect them to pass the test with ease.
      Either way, saved you some money and still burns very clean, so sounds like a great find.
