    This show did a great job of showing the ideals and shortcomings of all sides while being very engaging accessible.

    I loved this series so much! I was in middle school and my dad recorded it for us all to watch together. I read the books too and LOVED them!

    Lol I love how the mother says "Ashton has a good many callers". That's an extreme understatement. She made herself "available" to MANY men.

    This miniseries is so special to me; always reminds me of the good times me & my college friends had at the great West Point Military Academy in New York ( this is where the fictional characters Orry & his best friend ( the young Northerner met- I forgot his name)!! 🎖 🎥 💘

    James was really "poking the bear" with Billy for a moment, it's just a good thing the (metaphorical) bear was hibernating and just wanted to sleep, hence why Billy was aware of where he was and kept his composure, well done my boy.

    The best Televistion Score ever, and a great scene! Oh to have lived during those days! I would give anything to go back in time and live as the Son of a Plantation Owner.

      Also televistion - Not a word. You can tell by the red underline. If you want any respect online spelling is a first step. You're attitude sucks but your spelling needs work too.
      If I were you I'd work on that racism first but otherwise you might want to work on the spelling.
      Either is a benefit to the human race.
      See that - One species - Once race.
      :-)
      Good Luck.

      @@ianedmonds9191his spelling but you wrote " you're" for " your", lol..
      It's very possible you both got caught by spell correct. It changes my correct words all the time. I hate the thing.😊

      Andrea Orr If you were born in the South you'd have more compassion and understanding of your fellow humans and a better grasp of history. As it was you were clearly not hence your nasty attitude and even more ignorant beliefs. So sad that you are full of such hate over a fictional book turned to miniseries that you feel the need to comment negatively on every video of it. How pathetic are you.

    • @princessshallowstar3166

    • @ruadhrose
      @ruadhrose 7 років тому +4

      Andrea Orr LOL you're hysterical. Who in modern times in the US has kept slaves?!!? What are you a Doctor Who time traveler??? I'm 100% certain you've never been a slave a day in your life so you're gonna have a hard time getting any sympathy from me over a plight you have never experienced personally. In fact I'm willing to bet you live a pretty cushy, happy free life whatever part of the US is unlucky enough to house such a hate filled person like yourself. I have laugh and shake my head to hear modern day folks go on and on about the perils of slavery when they have never lived it a day in their lives. Maybe you should try talking with individuals around the world that really HAVE survived slavery and are still living it every day instead of bitching and moaning about things that have been over for over 150 years. Any problems you have with your life now, well baby go look in a damn mirror cuz now that's your problem.

      Charles and Billy weren't necessarily "Serving Officers" they were about only half way through West Point. I do not know, for certain about your main question, though. In the old movie, Sante Fe Trail, West Point Cadets fight over the issue of slavery.

      @@jason60chev Well they were in uniform-if i remember- and talking to civilians at a public occasion .I do remember the' Santa Fe Trail'-one of my favourite Westerns. Errol Flynn was the male lead who gave one of his best swashbuckling performances there, i think? You are right about WP Cadets arguing over slavery in that movie but that was among themselves and I think they were disciplined -were they not?
      Let's agree to differ..

    Not all slaves were mistreated. Some were very much better off working on the plantation than their original countries. They were fed, clothed. One of my ancestor's slaves cared for my 2nd Great Grandfather so much, he named all his son's after my ancestor's sons. Uncle Tom's Cabin caused so much trouble because of the lies. It was a glorious time to live. So much I wish I could wake up in 1850, ring a bell and have my breakfast served in bed. It was a good life!

    • @podsmpsg1
      @podsmpsg1 7 років тому +9

      But a slave wasn't considered a person, they weren't viewed as human beings. The slave's owner/master would probably treat his/her dog, horse or cat better than he/she would treat the slave(s).

    • @amyrightnow2
      @amyrightnow2 5 років тому +12

      Please pick up a Black History Book and read it. Slaves were not treated or had better lives on the plantations than their original countries. This is the most outrages thing I have ever read!! Slaves had no voices had to see their children being sold away and husbands beat and wifes raped. They had no options or say in anything about their lives! Uncle Tom's Cabin could have caused more trouble for the slave's owners and world...

    • @michaellehman8583

      The slaves had no freedom. It wasn't a glorious time for them to live. It wasn't for the slave owners either once the Civil War began.

      I have read many of slave narratives have you? Doesn't sound like it
      Up North the nergo was beaten dined equality and lynched by the Copper head Democrats and the nativist no nothing wide awkes.
      In fact as the war was drawing to a close Lincoln, and General Benjamin Butler planned to scatter the Nergo's all over South America, Canada, Mexico, Africa and other parts of the world away from the the U.S.
      Contrary to popular beliefs by y'all socialist Yankees African Americans were treated with much dignity equality both free yes there was free blacks, in the South during slavery and slavery alike unlike the up there in the North.

      Hell even Fredrick Douglass privately, held the private beliefs that in the South the black man was given more opportunity freedom as opposed in the North he had probably the best solutions to end Slavery that avoided bloodshed but was rebuffed by extremist like Wendell Phillips and Loyd Garrison who like other Yankees wanted war to keep Northern slave and warfare states afloat deep in profits.
