when i was younger, i took on projects like this. i spent the 1st. evening sitting in the front seat with a 6 pack beside me contemplating the future of my new truck.sure miss those days.
These videos are priceless. You guys are like heros. So cool to try and put these old relics back on the road. I’m pretty confident my sentiment is shared. Carry on.
My dad had one in this vintage. My brother in law, borrowed it and was hit head on it and survived. The truck gave its all to save a family member. They are so tuff, wish we still had it.
Essie Tangle - as a dumb assed 20 yr old I got right mad and punched the drivers door of my 51 Chevy 1/2. Broke my hand in 2 spots and didn’t even dent the door. Lol. Damned tuff trucks. That’d been around 88 or 89, so 37 year old truck still solid then.
Absolutely heart wrenching when you see cars just left to rot like the T-bird. Not my fav car but to set it aside to keep it only to allow it to rot. The frame ripped with the rear end. I had an old 66 Lincoln that I had dreams of restoring. But after 5 yrs I realized it wasn’t going to happen. Sell it, give it away, don’t just let them rot away! Nice truck tho, I had a 51 Chevy 1/2 (didn’t have the corner windows tho). Small block 400 with a 4 speed. Chopped ass - had 3 equal sections (tire/pumpkin/tire) big fatty looking rear end lol.
jonnenne - best of intentions and things do happen. That’s my Lincoln, stored it with intentions. But then comes a family and a business. No money to restore a car that doesn’t pay bills. Plus it was sitting in a field, so after 5 years I ended up just letting everyone I knew that it was available, gave it away for $500. If I had room to store it in a dry garage, I’d have kept it. Kids are grown, business is sold, could have fixed it up now. But better someone had it before it became a rust bucket. Old timers can’t admit they can’t do it anymore but keep hanging onto these ‘projects’, but every year that goes by the car gets more undoable .
Super excited for this one. My parents had a stock, unrestored '53 Chevy 3100 five window truck for a few years when I was less than 10 years old and I still have vivid memories of that truck, including the day they bought it home, although I was probably only 3 or 4 years old at the time. That was around 30 years ago and a 1953 truck seemed ancient even then. I just thought it was the coolest thing. I grew up around a lot of old cars but that truck was definitely the one that got me hooked on them. Can't wait to see what you do with your '50.
That looks *Exactly* like the *1949 5 window* that i found back in July. Got it running and have *been driving it everyday.* I have put real close to 1000 miles on it!!! 👍
Looks like a fair amount of the body of the that tbird can be saved, especially the lights and trim. Damn shame so many are left to rot and die like that
it is amazing that the county did not come in and call it a eye sore years ago or when scrap was over 200 dollars a ton back here where i live thirty years ago we had all kinds of old complete old cars just every where and then three things happen the local goverments filed charges monster farmers bought the land and then high scrap prices got them
@Black Buick the cost for license on those cars in ill if running on road is five dollars a year and sense it is civil court no warrant so sticking the year of manufacture tags on it is legal but yes i live in southern ill and local governments have caused problems big time not just the city of Chicago
Looks like the best hope for most of those ones, is for the parts above ground to go to those in need of undamaged parts for other rebuilds. If those parts are in good condition, disassembled might be a lovely little nest egg for the family of the property owner.
It sure is a beauty those trucks were great ,I would love to have one ,dad always had them lobed riding in them ,all metal, not much plastic in those trucks.maybe the turn signal handle.
I'm impressed by the winch motor on the rollback, able to yank that Thunderbird out of a foot of dirt! Also surprised the 5-window sat for that long. Aren't they kind of uncommon? Nice work team.
Our Rollback has a 10 ton winch, with a snatch block that's 40,000 lbs pulling force. Super strong frame and decent anchors you can really have fun or do some serious damage!
My first rig was a 48 GMC 5 window. I bought it for a 100.00 when I was 12, back in the late 60's. Had help from my dad and local mechanics and went through pretty much everything to get it running. That was the start of my love for automobiles and bringing them back to life. Its a shame to ruin the T-Bird, but the undercarrage must have been badly rusted for it to come apart like that.
👍👌👏 Uuuh WOW,, that pickup truck looks nice. Wonderful rounded edge design. Hope you restore it with its original engine (or at least a similar one). Thanks a lot for rescuing taping editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health.
The time effort and doe involved in putting these old sweethearts back on the road is nothing compared to the utter joy of diving them again, perhaps spitting out a few nuts and belts along the way and not a little love too.
Wow that thing out by your shop looks so awesome! I hope you leave it as is with no washing on the outside because man, original iron like that is perfection!
you prolly dont care at all but does someone know a method to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me!
I have NEVER heard of another Davin until just now even tho mine is spelled different! Nice to know im not the only one! @Daven @Davin for the WIN!!! lol
I've seen some vids about trucks of this era, and this one looks pretty good compared to lots of other Chevys of like age which were essentially abandoned.
Too bad about the 2 door T-bird! My parents traded my Fathers Z16 (Original owner) 1965 Chevelle SS in on a 1 year old 69 T-bird 4 door-got to love the wrap around rear seat- (Aqua and black) the old 429 Thunderjet use to do great burnouts. Then they got my Mom "The Tank" in 73- gas crunch era. Premium went to 50 cents a gallon which caused the switch to a 1972 Impala Wagon with a 400/400 with the funky hide way tailgate.
Love these videos, would love to see a 77 f150 4x4 rebuild with a 400, since that's the current project I'm working on haha. Even got the free wheeling package on it.

😲 Look at the stainless steel trim/Chrome on that truck after this many years ! You"ll Never see those Days again ! 😁

I always had an appreciation for late 40's, early 50's trucks. Im looking forward to the restoration of this truck.

You know it says something that a 70 year old truck still looks so good being outdoors for years.

Most likely buyer is another hoarder who will just leave the car. I don't think it is curable, some people are just born that way.

Yeah, wish my dad left a 1972 Datsun 240z in the barn, not on the hill to rot for years, rip..

T-Bird is a goner.
I love barn find projects...great America. .from Malaysia .
Davin's enthusiasm for this build is too infectious! Definitely looking forward to this build!
Awesome truck. I just got my 49 GMC 3/4 ton back on the road. Its been apart in a barn since the 70’s
I really enjoy these builds and it shows that you can build a fun vehicle on a reasonable budget. Thanks Davin and Hagerty!!!

I am so into old pickups. I'm salivating and can't wait for the work to begin. Have fun.
Thank you for saving that gem, sorry for those others we lost in battle.
Those trucks were solid built ,solid fenders.

Man good on you guys for pulling that old truck out and hopefully getting her back into shape again !!!!!!!
This is so cool. Too bad about the T-bird but at least it'll be good for parts and a donor motor. Looking forward to the next update
Hey guys... Im a HUGE fan!!! Please hurry with this old truck build!! Im waiting for the inline 6 rebuild!
Looks like a fair amount of the body of the that tbird can be saved, especially the lights and trim. Damn shame so many are left to rot and die like that
I don't understand why people just leave them to rot. Why not just put up an ad and sell them, clean up the place and get some money in return...
Those cars could have fallen victim to the old "I'm gonna fix it up some day". I've heard that BS plenty of times
@@mikeadcock1592 hahaha so true

Congratulations on your find, looking forward to a video series on its restoration. I love watching your Redline videos. Greetings from Holland MI.
How ironic i'm from Holland to. Except on another continent.
What a find, chrome is intact, good to leave it original and painted black matte. Cars rot on dirt and vegetation sites damn that T-Bird look like a '66

Those Chevys were some damn good trucks
Love the old trucks and love the choice of music
Seriously interested in this one!
It sure is a beauty those trucks were great ,I would love to have one ,dad always had them lobed riding in them ,all metal, not much plastic in those trucks.maybe the turn signal handle.
Love it when an old classic is saved

I love the second series of these Task Force trucks. 1955-1957. They just appeal to me better.

2:29 I was like "hey did the old T-bird have rear-wheel steering?"
Davin you are such a nice guy! Have fun mate
That poor T-Bird.......I felt physically sick :(
I actually vomited up my soul briefly, but I'm feeling better now. Yeah, it's such a Waste to see them neglected..
Unbelievable! Not you. That it was left to rot.
@Jo B That's true.....Didn't it also start the day as one.......?
WOULD have been 1000 times Better IF it would have been an Asian brand/Japanese.
Yes the poor T Bird!!!
That is one cool 😎 truck it would be great 👍to get it back on the road!!!!!
Im gonna need more of this build..
Like right now!!
More videos please!!!!! Clean up, tear down anything!
Can't wait for the rebuild.
Oooof! That 67 with hideaway lights and sequential tail lights was on a level with seeing a stranger's dog get hit. 😢
This will make a nice project car. I miss the red Ford stw you gave away. But it came to a good home! / Pelle in Stockholm.
Funny how those cars are located behind the house in the woods. In the country. Good hideout . Mystery. Funny how people stock pile stuff.
Hi, guys ) I hope you will revive this Chevy )
I'll be following this build
South of Crockett Texas on highway 19 there are 3 or 4 guys a have a bunch of old cars in their fields if you ever get that way check it out
