  • This series began with a complete beginner's guide to Project Zomboid, the zombie, crafting, survival sensation. It has now gone beyond the basics and beyond even what I knew about the game and evolved into a learning guide as I am trying to learn more about PZ an see as much content as I can in the world we created in the guide. Project Zomboid has a very punishing difficulty curve and with this guide I intend to help you start a new character, build a new world, start in a good location, explain the basics of controls, the UI, and give tips for surviving the early days in the game. I am not min/maxing here and doing my best to not spoil the game. I simply want to help new players get into the game and have a grasp of the fundamentals so they can survive, and also show people some gameplay if they were thinking of buying the game. As I am starting a new character, you can play along to learn the ropes :)
Come learn the basics of Project Zomboid!

Oof - rough start. As always, gotta keep an eye on those moodles. When you get tired, hungry, etc it affects how well you can fight, which is why you were struggling to kill that group in the usual one to two hits (as you know, but mostly for anyone else reading this).
It always sucks when you get bit, but you had a solid run with that guy and learned some valuable lessons which will help next time. Keep it up and before long, you'll be surviving months between deaths.

Haha, yeah we had a good run for sure! Yeah, I should have just gone home to sleep and eat and then come back out but I got impatient and... RIP! haha

@@DrIncompetent Happens to all of us. I lost a 3 month character because I got impatient and ran into a tent without calling to make sure there weren't any zeds inside first. Two on either side of the tent opening snagged me the second I walked in. Lesson learned for next time.

    Hello Doc all good?
Maaan, that bite was a tough blow. You got a bit too up close and personal with that one and he caught you in between angles.
Bound to happen if you are a bit rusty at the game...
In any case, I think maybe would be wise to offload all your loot somewhere so you can reclaim it later. Or else that guy will die and then you spawn far away and have to track him down to get it back. 🙄Just my 2 cents on the matter. Better safe than sorry...
Also, you seem to be scattering loot all over - in car trunks especially - and that does not seem like a good idea. 😑
A bit of inventory check and tidying up of categories is needed here 😆but something for your next guy to worry about!
Let's keep at it. Do not get shot down by this! 😉
See you in the next one!

Haha, it was brutal! Yeah--rusty and moving too fast and it just takes one bite! Great idea on offloading this guy's equipment. I think I will drive him back home and put it all in the trunk of this car for now haha ;D Then, walk the naked zombie somewhere to die haha

following up from @dispatchdave you can also turn off the respawn for the zombies in settings if you want them to stay dead

Keep in mind this is your game, to play how you see fit. You can turn down the amount of zombie's that can spawn, if you want (usually at the beginning of a game, but a mod will let you change your game-start parameters). Something to consider if you often find yourself frustrated with the number of zeds.
Love the content, keep it coming!

Thank you so much for these tips! I might try and mess with these someday... haha ;D I wish I could make them not come up again so I could "clear" areas and feel I have secured some sections from respawns, and only wandering zeds would be an issue. haha

@@DrIncompetent Respawning zombies can be disabled (in a new game, or with the mod that allows one to change settings) by setting Respawn Hours to 0. Zombies can be further contained by setting the Redistribute Hours to 0 (this will prevent zombies from migrating to unoccupied areas of their cell). I tend use a lower Respawn Multiplier, and often set my Respawn Unseen Hours to 168 or 336 hours (one or two weeks, respectively). That prevents zombies from coming back to areas you frequent regularly, but allows them to respawn in places you haven't been to in a while.

the TAB key will equip and turn on/off the best light source that you have. It won't un-equip it though
