You know a channel is good when you can go back to videos from 4 months ago and not know if the channel has 2 million or 250k subs, and then you look at the subscriber count. Huge congrats on 100k do not know if I have said it yet, that 100k vid was awesome. Keep grinding Dweeb, been with you for a long time now, don’t know how to check but probably around a year if I had to guess, video quality is amazing, insightful videos, and most importantly extremely entertaining.
I'm here at the beginning. Oh my God. My eyes shall be the first to feast upon a new TechDweeb video. I have never felt more privileged. We made it too, mom. We made it too : * (
Did you check the power draw during the test that had the bigger difference? Checking power settings in the BIOS might be worth a look. The 9 might be set to draw more power.
Hey, I know you said it's quiet, but how quiet are we talking? Did you have a way to monitor the dB settings? I'm looking for small, lightweight, but quiet for work.
The eGPU costs more than both PCs combined. But yeah, good to know that once the eGPU is on, both performs perfectly well (and both without eGPU will still play what I want at respectable frame rates).
Sottr difference might be because of the ram difference. Giving more ram to gpu without affecting the cpu. But also amd cpu will run dynamically so it would be better to run the benchmarks many times and compare average as some stuff might happen in the background on windows that could affect the benchmark results. Overall I agree the Ryzen 9 does not seem worth it, just slap more ram to the Ryzen 7 version and call it a day. Good video
Even when I know I have no interest in buying any of the products being showed in the video I still enjoy the entertainment value I get from the video.
Nice/Funny Video, Questiions.. Did you change any BIOS settings to performace etc, what was the power draw (were they as expected) and what is the best FPS you have seen on that External GPU with those games? I just grabbed the PRO version expecting to use OCULINK but finding everything i try perfectly playable with IGPU.
I'd really love to see some comparisons about how mini PC's like these would handle Pinball FX and Visual Pinball. I can never find any such video. Being a pinball fan, sounds right up your alley. 😜
Really? There are hundreds of videos with pinball fx running on mini PC's...if not mini PC's then on laptops with the exact same chip...anyhow, I can tell you I have a beelink ser4 mini PC with a ryzen 7 4800u chip and it runs pinball fx just fine...as such, these 2 mini PC's shown here blows mine out of the water so I'd venture to say they could run any pinball games better than mine.
Should I buy this brand or the beelink ser6? They’re similarly priced so im not sure which is better. I currently have a MacBook Air m1 so how would these compare for daily use
The one gaming scenario where you might expect the CPU to make more difference is emulation. Since they are both fairly powerful processors, though, either one should emulate a lot of things well.
nawwwwwwww, ram speed matters more. it would only matter when saturated. whichhhhh theyd both saturate at the same point considering windows vram limit for apus/igpus
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is known to be a more CPU Intensive game. I don't know why, but it's consistent and that's why the CPU-strong team always chooses Shadow of the Tomb Raider as their benchmark in LTT's scrapyard wars
I am guessing that integrated GPUs share a lot of the resources and thermals with the CPU, so if the CPU is having trouble, it might affect an APU more than it would a separate GPU, specially when using an eGPU the CPU's thermals won't affect it at all.
Something I want to do with one of these mini PCs is leave one NVME with Windows 11, but put Linux on the second NVME slot and go between the two OS. I read that either OS can read files, videos, and games on the opposite HDD, but haven't test it. Is that possible? Like, I would have the Linux one be the daily driver, but hop over to Windows 11 for programs still bound to that OS.
Probably the differences on integrated graphics are tied to Ram. Integrated Graphics rely on the system Ram as a substitute for Vram, so the faster the ram generally the better the performance. So dunno if fiddling with the bios and testing video ram allocation or different clock profiles for the ram would actually aleviate the bottleneck. Mini PCs tend to have very random perfomance at times also, some may not be as efficient with their power draw or ram configs and usually need several bios revisions before they become a bit more stable.
It is VERY nice to know that i can get a dedicated gpu connected to a mini pc, if u have the 40gb port on the mini of course... but if u do u got a VERY nice rig for not being a NERD woth a bunch of $ or no life😅
For the price of any of these 2 mini PC's i would opt for one with a 780m igpu and an oculink port... Granted there aren't a lot with oculink just yet but they're becoming more and more prominent these days... especially as more manufacturers are coming out with their own external gpu...(Mind you, that you can make your own egpu dock for a lot less but it won't be as pretty).
@@dannypeters8126 maybe 10 months ago when it came out but not now. those em780 pc's have non upgradable ram and 7000 series cpu chips...although it isn't a sloutch, there are far better pc's out right now that give you more and cost less.
Compared to what exactly? You can run batocera on a raspberry pi 4 just fine so I would expect either of these PC's to run any game on batocera at maximum settings.
maybe shadow of the tomb raider benefited by the RAM being more on the ryzen 9? although 16gb should be plenty, but... if the power draw was set correctly, the game was able to utilize the same amount of ram for vram and things like that, then the only thing that comes to mind is that it needed more ram for some reason... or maybe windows was doing some shit on the back?
16gb may be the minimum but it isn't ideal. I'm currently playing spiderman remastered on my ser4 mini PC with 16gb of ram and that game almost maxed it out with the CPU running at 90%. it crashes every now and then so I'd say if you plan on playing big graphic intensive games like tomb raider then consider adding 32gb of ram.
I'm just looking for a batocera machine to play ps2 and gamecube. (Maybe upscale? But not necessary) is it worth splurging on this (r7) or would I get the functionality I need out of an n97 or otherwise cheaper option?
I can’t speak to the N97, but I have a similarly spec’d Beelink minipc like the R7 and it emulates GC and PS2 beautifully with headroom to spare for upscaling.
If all you want to do is play batocera on it then there are a lot of cheaper options out there for sure... Hell, you can get a raspberry pi 5 kit for about $130 and run batocera off it just fine...I have a ser4 mini PC and I can easily run batocera on it and that mini PC is about 5 yrs old now...they are up to ser8 now.
@lexlopez15 yeah I basically want a TV "console", currently run my laptop through hdmi for gc/ps2 but it's become cumbersome plugging and unplugging, pairing controllers etc.
@@mjust7119 you can run just about any mini pc with an hdmi out to any modern tv; not sure why you would need to unplug it if all you're doing is playing games off of it.... as for the controllers. i don't know which one you have but maybe upgrade to a better controller. i use my xbox controller on my pc and i just have to turn it on and it's paired in less than 2 seconds... or if that is still a hassle then buy a wired controller.
Guys, aside from the CPU they're are exactly the same. Except one has TWICE the RAM of the other, which the GPU shares. But yeah, exactly the same. 🤷♂

Under $500 I'm happy. After that I'd just build a PC.
This video was perfect. I literally just purchased this setup with egpu and was wanting to see what I could expect in performance. Thank you!

Considering how emotional they are, you should've checked which one was the most upset during each test. Huge impact to performance.

Higher clock rates increase performance of the iGPU's. Better CPU performance also increases 1% low FPS performance.
This is was so darn entertaining!
I'm not gonna pretend I remember how many subs you had when I first found you, but congrats on 100,000! I was here before you had a steam deck 😂.
OG dweeb!
It all comes down to the cpu cores on r9 in gta as the older massive inefficient game needs all the cpu help it can get.
I hoped for a 7840HS vs 7940HS because the 780m is considerably (edit : well 10% , but they don't differ much in price neither) better than the 680m
