This week, we’re asking a simple question - without a simple answer - why not end decades of fighting by creating a Palestinian state right alongside Israel?
The two-state solution might seem like a modern proposal, but over the years there have been plenty of attempts to establish an Arab state alongside a Jewish one.
In fact, there have been six recognizable attempts to establish a Palestinian state, that date back to before the War of Independence in 1948.
So, why isn’t there a State of Palestine?
Like so many things, it all depends who you ask, with both sides blaming each other for the current circumstances...
Join us as we get to grips with this complicated situation, which seems to have no solution in sight.

We aren't filtering, these are ones that UA-cam catches. Mostly they are ones that include blatant hate speech (both pro and anti Jews/Israel/Arabs/Muslims) as well as ones that include [often excessive] profanity. Though the filter also catches just plain spam, like people trying to sell things or actual jibberish comments meant to spam the comment section.
Also, if we leave hateful comments up we potentially open ourselves up for getting a community strike from UA-cam. If you think that most channels have zero moderation in the comment section - automated or otherwise, you'll be surprised to hear that most do. Especially the automated tools UA-cam provides, and is what we mostly rely on.

And The Arabic countries as well especially Jordan and Egypt. Israelis and Palestinians were trying to turn it into a 2 state solution from the start around 1948. Jordan and Egypt didn’t want a 2 state solution because for that to happen they’d have to recognize Israel as a country, and they mostly wanted Palestine to be incorporated into their own territory. Hence why Jordan annexed The West Bank. (Believe this occurred in the 70s but I could be wrong. Did indeed happen though)

I believe that there are people on both sides who would accept a two-state solution, or come up with a better solution. But at the end of the day as long as extremists exist on both sides to derail peace in their chase of their own all or nothing goals and ambitions, peace will never be possible.
In conclusion, people on both sides will continue to die and suffer because extremists on both sides take up an all or nothing attitude. It is perhaps the saddest situation of the 20th and 21st centuries.

I have watched this issue rage by entire life from the US. So, I've never lived in Israel but have lived in the region once for about 18 months. I think the issue can be solved but this would involve compromises from each side that maybe no one is willing to make or has been so far. I think the Arab nations were crazy to reject the partition plan in the first place but, be that as it may, things turned out the way they have for many reasons. This reminds me of may issues in the US where we only have two major political parties which means that compromise, while always possible, is a bit harder to actually arrive at.

Israel had literally took over half of Egypt and gave it back during the war and gave West Bank and Gaza to the Arab residents ("Palestinians") after the war. Israel wanted to give the land in exchange for peace from the Arabs. The Arabs have betrayed Israel's trust over and over again over the decades and still raging about eliminating Israel off the map. Israel has tried virtually every method imaginable to live in peace with the Arabs. The Arabs refused and will still refuse even if they have 99% of the land. They will still try to kill Israel. If Israel gives in to Arabs' demands, the Arabs would use that as an advantage to attack Israel. It has been proven over and over again. People like you need to study the history and stop trying to tell Israel what to do or what needs to happen. Israel already knows what needs to happen through years of trial and error. The Arabs simply want to destroy Israel.

In every negotiation towards peace (Peel, UN Partition Plan, etc.), Israel is always open & it's always the Palestinian LEADERSHIP that screws it up (I'm emphasizing the leadership more so than the people because there are Palestinians who want peace). The Palestinian leadership has an "all or nothing" mentality that has got to go. Israel isn't going to roll over, and the Palestinian leadership needs to accept that if they want peace. (And the Palestinians must accept the fact that Israel is a legitimate state. There is only 1 Jewish country & it's Israel which is why it is so important.) Israel isn't perfect & can DEFINITELY be improved [even Israelis criticize Israel constantly], but it seems clear that the Palestinian leadership refuses to make peace, and that's one of if not THE biggest obstacle.
NOTE: Some of this info is paraphrased from a book written by a MUSLIM author called "The Jew is Not My Enemy." (It's a great book so far, but chapter 4 is dumb IMO).

@@sophiao.5189 "but what would they be voting for?"
The time for palestinians voting on things is effectively over I think. Its time for the issue to be settled once and for all. That means all the supposedly 'occupied territories' of West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights going to Israel, and any palestinian arabs who dont wish to live in Israel can be assisted to leave, the rest that remain can be full Israeli citizens like the other ~2 million or so that already have that status. This means assisting those people by paying for safe passage and having accommodation and infrastructure available in Jordan etc where they can get on with their lives. This would be better than what most jews had when they moved to israel, as they were usually limited to 2 suitcases and had to leave all their property behind (or it was confiscated).
This would mean and end to this conflict, a conflict that perhaps made some sense back in the 1940s and 1950s, but by now is just stale and pointless.

We're planning on presenting the arguments of both sides, we aren't a news organization nor do we have the staff or funds for extensive investigative journalism. We can only rely on the information that is available.
In terms of who we're are - We're a non-profit funded by donors of various backgrounds and political views. BTW, in regards to what Mia said, they are incorrect (and most likely relying on the outdated and inaccurate Wikipedia article about our parent company). Alan Dershowitz isn't, and never did, run our organization. He was part of a large group of known Jewish people who were part of our now very defunct Core 18 program.
We changed our channel name for a few reasons - mainly since the name didn't make any sense and it was confusing people. We started off 9 years ago with an accredited program (off UA-cam) but haven't offered anything like that for years. People would also confuse us with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Another reason we changed was because JerusalemU doesn't explain what we do. We not hide our former channel name (just check out channel, we mention it multiple times) and parent organization, and have no reason to.
We don't claim the be the only, final, or definitive authority on anything Israel or Judaism, we want to provide fact based information and a starting point for anyone - regardless of their political or religious affiliation. Disagree with some of the things we say? That's fine! We are all for (respectful) discourse.
Do we have biases? Of course, everyone does. What's important is to make sure you are aware of them and to do your best to keep it from affecting the interpretation of fact.

The question is who has the military control. Israel unilaterally gave Gaza Strip to Palestinians ceding any control, that quickly resulted in the area being overrun by Hamas which to this day regularly sends rockets and plans terrorist attacks against Israel. If such thing happens with West Bank that could paralyze Israel due to WB geography and it will be impossible to contain (not counting possible Israeli casualties). So Israel will never cede military control of WB. Israel tried keeping more open borders between Palestinian enclaves, but after Second Intifada it became clear that without those checkpoints there Palestinians who are OK with starting a bloody terrorist war against Israel. Thus your plan basically ends up in a situation where Israel and Palestine are now. Some areas are run by Palestinians alone (like Ramallah or Bethlehem), but Israel maintains military control over region with checkpoints between Palestinian enclaves.

They are armed with Nukes, they have one of the most advanced militaries in the world. Goading Palestinines into fighting against a country that literally has nukes in an attempt to claim Isreal as their own is a sure fire way to see endless bloodshed on the Palestinian side. These people are not "pro Palestine" they're just anti Isreal and anti Western World.l with such strong convictions they would rather see Palestinians lose their lives in a war that they cannot win just to prove "West bad, Isreal bad".

      @toade1583 2 роки тому

Not really, it's rather that the Two-state solution isn't happening because Palestinians haven't made any effort to compromise and instead have escalated violence(Intifada, missile and terrorist attacks) towards Israel and broken the trust(launching missiles in Gaza towards Israel after Israel gave them the Gaza Strip back after the war) of Israelis.

@@toade1583 the two state solution, as proposed by the Arab League, or as the proposal by Abbass in 2008, actually was itself a compromise. The Palestinian would have accepted a two state solution, but only under some conditions, not at any cost. They are not interested in just any two state solution. They would be only interested in variants of the two state solution that Israel would find unacceptable.
And actually, you are repeating just the Israeli biased narrrative: you only see the Palestinians "escalation" while you fail to see the escalation by Israel, and how Israel broke the Palestinians' trust and hopes.
For example: I guess you forget the 2nd Intifada has started with the killing of 18 Palestinian demonstrators on the Al-Aqsa ground by the Israeli border police (following a nationalist provocation organized by Ariel Sharon).

Looking back, one can definitely see Palestinians have a moral case for opposing the existance of Israel. However one thing is for sure, its not going away. Israel seems to have grown somewhat over time partly due to its superior negotiation tactics and allegiances. This must be stopped and serious concessions made.
It's hard to see how Israel can somehow be abolished and subsumed into a Palestinian state without some serious powersharing comittments. Its just not realistic. And demands for that can only be seen as bad faith warmongering. However Israel seems intent on overplaying its hand, demanding more land and aggravating the situation rather than at the very least recognising that its very creation was a form of colonial oppression.
The Palestinians can bemoan the existance of an Israeli state but Israel is obviously very powerful now. It has to negotiate on achievable things that will have concrete benefits for its citizens not simply invite war and bloodshed

"The Palestinians can bemoan the existance of an Israeli state but Israel is obviously very powerful now."
And the nations around Israel have tended to become less powerful over time, if not implode into chaos and disorder. Syria is still in civil war, Lebanon sufferes political and demographic dysfunctionality, Iraq has been conquered several times because of its own mistakes and weaknesses, Egypt is ruled by a secular general with no interest in war, Saudi Arabia has a young ruler aligned to the US, etc.
Only Jordan seems to be stable. And the only cohesive enemy of Israel these days is Iran, separated by significant distance and under crushing sanctions from the US.
"... its very creation was a form of colonial oppression."
I think you have to be careful with this assertion. When Jews were encouraged to settle to palestine under British rule, it was a solution to a pressing humanitarian problem of Jews being hated and persecuted in most of the places they lived at that time and having nowhere really to go, as the US and other countries put limits on migration from eastern europe.
Opposition from the arabs meant that thousands of jews that couldve been saved from Nazi occupied Europe were prevented from escaping. The palestinians probably hoped at that stage that they would win independence, but their own bigotry towards the jews ultimately led to them losing everything anyway. Is that all the jews fault, or is a large part of the blame to go to the arabs? Afterall, at that time they didnt even have a country, and had been occupied for centuries; in my reading i cant honestly recall ever seeing an significant period of time when Palestine was independent. There were significant periods of muslim rule though, and maybe thats the real underlying cause of this conflict.

Basically no. You can watch many videos asking people on the street both Palestinians and Israelis whether there is a solution and they generally say no. Essentially the Palestinians say they want "all" the land back or "all" the land is theirs. And the Israeli's essentially do not want their way of life diluted by outsiders. Because they wont be able to effectively accomplish their goals as a society and culture. And this is justifiably driven out of fear of the whole Jewish population and way of life (based in Israel and other places) being destroyed or disappearing. In other words you can't have practically every Middle Eastern country hate the Jews or at least wish they weren't there and then expect them to trust anyone. History doesn't matter, 1948, 1967, the Bible, the Torah, the UN, OSLO, some dudes opinion from Ireland, none of it matters, Israel has no intention of ever negotiating anything that gives them less land, less control or even the possibility of less territory expansion.

The cold war was an ideological war, all the proxy wars stemming from it too. Ideology is determined by theological positions about how the world functions and how we fit into it. The communists were atheists, their opponents mostly theists, and their ideologies conflicted because of this root difference.
European colonization was heavily driven by religious conflict in Europe. Conflict escalated in North America being largely rooted in theological differences between the natives and the Europeans. Europeans wanted to bring the gospel to them, and often this was alongside a wholesale rejection of native cultures as heathen/pagan and therefore barbaric. This conflict escalated when the idea of Manifest Destiny (divine right to the lands from the east coast to the west coast) became prominent and settlers moved further and further west.
Conquest is in general rooted in theological positions; either that God doesn't exist and therefore if you want to you can, accumulation of wealth and power become ultimate ends; or the idea that God is either okay with the conquest or desires the conquest to occur. What we believe about God shapes what we believe about the natural world and moral sphere, what we believe about the natural world and moral sphere shapes how we interact with people and the environment we live in. War is the continuation of politics by other means, politics is an extension of culture, culture is an amalgam of the beliefs of the people of a society, which ultimately root into who we think God is. The conflict hasn't arisen as a result of the Arab community, so the Palestinian's should feel no implication to sign an agreement. The policies of the State of Israel have clearly violated Article 49 of the 4th Geneva Convention (concerning the transfer and deportation of the civilian population). I thought the video would be unbiased going by the comments but the guest picture you showed saying the arabs were offered more land is false. The partition offered three pieces to the jewish state which also included part of Jerusalem and the reason the Palestinians didnt accept it because it wasnt fair according to the demographic of the time.

    • @nurieln

      Ali K
      Very very very untrue
      1. The partition stipulated on making Jerusalem an internationally administered city - very similar to what the Vatican is now - and to give all religions equal rights. This was refused by the Jordanians who absorbed most of jerusalem.
      2. The Jewish state was given a much smaller area thanwas allotted to arabs.
The palestinians (and they were not called palestinians then) did not agree because - according to them- even the land allotted to the jews was also part of this mythological palestine. This is true even today

A Bible Prophecy written 2500 years ago!
Getting fulfilled right before our eyes!
Ezekiel 37 : 21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, whither they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: 22 and I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all; 23 neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will save them [j]out of all their dwelling-places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
24 And my servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in mine ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them. 25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children’s children, for ever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever. 26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will [k]place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. 27 My tabernacle also shall be [l]with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 28 And the nations shall know that [m]I am Jehovah that sanctifieth Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

This portrayal of the conflict seams quite one-sided. You mentioned how arabs were against an Israeli state but there were no further expansions on why they were against it. For example that the minority of 600.000 jews were assigned 56,6% of the land while 1.2 million palistinians were reduced to 43,5%.
Palistinan people viewed the declaration of a jewish state by the UN as another act of european colonization.
And this is just a fraction of the reasons why the palistinan population opposed the Israeli government.

Why doesn’t rich Israel offer $1 million US dollars per man, woman, child if the move from Israel for life? They have the understanding that if they return they will be imprisoned. Can’t the rich country offer this.
With all surrounding nations having destroyed economies, leadership, why can’t Israel offer to purchase large portions of land from neighboring countries and offer $100,000 US dollars plus a new home for every Palestinian that moves and can not return? It seems the surrounding destroyed economies/nations would very much appreciate new, wealthy people in their country. Isn’t this something that should be considered, at least offered?
Considering the alternative, with bad media coverage, human rights violations, the rich government harming the poorest people in the world..these offers would surly make the Israel nation look so much better and more understanding in the world’s eye.

There is no Apartheid in Israel.Walled cirues? Israel has had walled cities for millennia. Discriminatiin? Every country has some discrimination.
No lack of empowerment/hope? Is ridiculous. We don't have to empower those that have tried to detroy us. The Arabs see kindness as weakness!
You don't get the simple facts of the matter. These people were given many opportunities to live among us and to live beside us. They made their choices. They have turned down 5 opportunities to have another Arab state.
From the beginning they wanted Bilad al Sham. One Arab world with no Jews in it. Even after the creation of all the Arab countries in the 1920s, they never even tried to unite as one, because once the individual leaders got power, they wouldn't give that power up,
Do You know the British illegally gave away 77% of the Mandate to become Jordan? And that they were offered 80% of the land of Israel as the Arab state? The only reason they turned it down is that the Jews were offered the other 20%.
