The number one fear I hear over and over again from hikers and backpackers is that they’re afraid of getting lost when out on trail. So here are 5 ways NOT to get lost on your next hiking and backpacking trip.
Awesome timing in this video! I just got an email from FarOut that almost all of their maps AND the unlimited subscription are currently on sale! 🎉 It’s an awesome deal for anyone looking to hike a long distance trail in the near future.
This was a great idea. Fear of getting lost is a major impediment for me where I now live in the east (I was never worried living in the west including Hawaii, Arizona, Oregon and California- because there are more landmarks, they are visible above the horizon and not hidden in a green tunnel, and the trails are better kept without tons of herd trails). Having a satellite communicator has been a step in the right direction because I at least know I have a way out. would be nice to have some comparisons of pros and cons of different apps.
My satellite messenger (the Garmin inReach) was the one piece of gear I wish I had bought sooner. The price tag, with for the device and the monthly subscription, is 100% worth the peace of mind while I'm out on trail alone - for both myself and my friends and family.
