My orthodontist made the metal ones in the office and they were ready in a week. She also does a slightly modified version that holds teeth better and I really like them.
But those wear down quickly whilst the others are permanent
They last 5 years. Still shorter than the other ones which last like 15 years but still pretty long
OK I have a retainer like this but I absolutely hate it because it has a roof on it and it just irritates me not being able to touch the roof of my mouth with my tongue or not being able to feel it
ikr, and for me, my saliva gets foamy in there ans it touches the roof of my mouth and if i rinse it out with water it still comes back AND I CAN'T GET RID OF IT, irritates me sm
Dentists love the clear ones because they wear out faster which means patients have to return to get them replaced for $ 😉

Yea that’s what i learned too. Those hawley retainers can last you around 15 years. These clear ones i don’t think so

Hello! I just got my lower retainers and my orthodontist cut my clear retainers to fit better. Well, now the sides of my molar’s gums aren’t even covered by my retainer anymore. Mostly the retainer covers the top of my molars to only about half-way down my molars. They do not cover my molar’s gums at all. Is this normal? Should they fit all the way down to the gum for my lower back molars? The retainer does go down to my gums for my front teeth, it’s just my back teeth I’m feeling suspicious about.
no they are not better, those break easier and are more expensive. hawley retainers on top. They last so long.
they took my impressions and the next day i already got my hawley retainers back, altough it irritates me just as much as 7 years ago, cuz the bottom one moves by my tongue, and inside the top one my salive gets foamy or whatever and it's stuck in there and it irritates me so much, i can't even get rid of it, not talking about how uncomfortable the whole thing is and i can't even speak in them
They talked me into one of those while waiting for an implant... worst mistake ever.
Here are a few reasons they suck.
1. You take them out to eat. Great at work lunches, dinner dates ect...
2. They smell no matter how you clean them.
3. If you have a fake tooth in one while waiting for an implant, the fake tooth in my case looks like a chicklet gum. Massive next to my real tooth.
4. They make you have so much saliva you drool and talk like you have water in your mouth except its saliva.. and since this plastic pos stinks, your saliva stinks. Try chewing gum, but you cant.
Dont let these guys talk you into something that looks cheap, is cheap and will make people think you tried to do it yourself. The flipper was a godsend compaired to to that clear plastic nightmare.
Are clear retainers permanent like do you have to wear them every day?

Ours are done the same day. If it's from a lab we still make them something or else teeth may shift.

One thing them plastic retainers definitely cannot do is be “tightened” meaning if you haven’t worn them and your teeth shift you have to get them remade just the way your teeth are opposed to going to get the metal retainer tightened to shift your teeth back to that nice smile you were left with after getting braces.(realistic shifting) so if your teeth was very twisted after not wearing your retainers no matter which retainer …you will have to get braces again but minor-mild shifting that metal retainer will get you right.
That is not a retainer that is a invisline
my ortho gave me the boomer/outadated retainers, the part that covers the pallet makes my mouth SO DRY overnight i simply cannot wear that anymore and now my teeeth dont fit in them i spent so much money and my ortho is kind of a dick... so idk what i can do to get retainers would an ortho just do retainers? he also said if i lost them theyre 500 for another.

@@opufy hawley retainers are not a scam, all types of retainers have their advantages and disadvantages. I for one prefer the "boomer" retainer over all the others. I've worn hawley retainers for nearly my entire childhood and teenage years, and after an adjustment period I didn't have a dry roof of mouth anymore. You just need to drink water before bed and try to sleep with your mouth closed.
I got the clear retainers after I was done with the treatment and I didn't like them at all. They're not as durable, and I also don't think they did as much of a good job retaining tooth positions as the hawleys, and now I'm currently in braces. I will ask my ortho to give me hawleys instead of clear ones when I get them off.
Ergo - not a scam. You just don't like them, that's all.
