I kept saying that the Sentinel of Light event would've been so much better if instead of having Ultimate Spellbook, which had nothing to do with the event, have a PVE game mode fighting back the ghouls of the mist and eventually fighting Viego at the end. I was a player that started league in season 7, so I got the Star guardian event, project event, hunt of the blood moon, Doom bots, and odyssey event back to back and thought, "dang is this how it's always going to be? No wonder league players love league so much." Now they haven't come back since 2018 and in Riot's latest preseason update/dev diary, they basically said, "yep, we got no plans on bringing any of these modes back. More summoners rift game modes." :^)
Or like a gamemode where you can choose your teams like Sentials vs Ruination :D id def choose the ruination team haha , i still like ultimate spellbook its not bad
I liked the visual novel thing they did for the Spirit event, but I agree - the Ruination event should've been a game mode like Blood Moon and Odyssey.

So... we can kinda thank tft as to why we don't have new game modes or maps. (its the video by Exil, "League of Legends Had Fun Modes But They're Gone Forever...") Just so sad. I'm not a hardcore ranked or summoners rift player at all. I dont event like ARURF or regular urf. I loved twisted treeline, odssey, invasion onslaught, hunt of the blood moon, even just the winter map. I also vaguely remember like an arcade "event" and the turrets, minions, inhibs, and base was all arcade themed. Also a summer event and the minions either had hawaiian leis or sun hats. I loved those little details and things. I wish Riot would care more about the casual, "for fun" aram players like me and many others.
Thier BEST change was by far removing the old rune system. As a new player it took a tremendous amount of in game currency to buy the runes. It was basically P2W, cuz you could just buy them all for RP
@@wasw I checked it and yes, you could not runes for RP. The only way to convert RP to IP was through leveling with an XP boost(This is even true today). They stated directly converting RP to IP would mean selling power and they didn't want that. Which is fair but having to pay 388K IP for a full set of runes is ridiculous.
I vaguely remember RIOT stating they wanted to expand their gamemode options, and then immediately followed that up with the removal of Twisted Treeline. And I dearly remember the unfortunate demise of the Fortify spell. Flash was so broken that it had a 90%+ pickrate, but Fortify got the boot.
I really enjoyed playing the game modes: Bloodmooon, Overcharge, and Odyssey, that 3 right there made me happy while playing league.......sometimes, but still those game modes are enjoyable
Supposedly the opponent honor system was used in Asian servers to mark inters and tilters on the enemy team, leading them to being target ganked in their future games because of their “honor” level
I was watching so many vids on auto-play I didn't even realise this came out literally a few minutes ago. Love the content my man, watched you when I was in college years back. Thanks
For real though. Aatrox' rework was literally the farthest thing from a rework. His entire essence was changed. He was an on hit based champ that heavily relied on some attack speed to be good. Now aatrox is a combo champ like riven, it's insane how far off they are from one another, they could be two completely different champs and actually coexist with one another without issues....
I only started playing in S11 but I've wanted to honor an opponent so many times. They are such fun players some times. I've had ones give me tips when I first time a champ.
There is a suggestion of Necrit that I liked regarding the chemtech map. Instead of giving camouflage, you can only see inside the fog but not the outside when you enter the zone. It works like Graves W. It will really be more fun and interesting instead of what we got.
I miss the winter map. It was just cool to see everything change and updated with the season. I feel like riot slowly started caring less and less about cool little things that made more of an impact than they think.
I just hope that in the future, when Riot is done making other games that they planned back in the 10th anniversary announcement that we would see more love back in to this game.
I've been wondering a week ago why we even have to purchase rune pages?? We should be able to have unlimited runes pages just like item customization for certain champions. It's a plus to have prepared runes pages for any champion you play instead of wasting time in lobby
They talked about removing short term updates like the christmas theme and yet they changed the way turrets looked for arcane for month then removed it.
Well, thats a big statement... I had almost every rune and never used real money for them. The real issue with the runes removal was that old players got like 1/4 of the rune's price back, while new players got the whole thing. That felt kinda ugly
I miss the winter rift music.. I wish it was optional to have certain sound tracks like the snowdown rift from riot in game rather than just “Classic” and “Updated”
I still don't understand why people didn't like Dominion. It was fast, exciting and you didn't have to pick a role (like being forced to play jg or support). Also it had amazing soundtrack which was changing with match progression.
Runes were incredibly good and healthy though, it was a bit of a grind to work towards (take that as a good or bad thing, it’s both), but HEAVILY worked against smurfs. It was just too much of a time investment to get a versitile account ready for ranked, which is a massive issue today
I absolutely loved the "special game modes", especially the odysee one. It was so much fun to have an all - coop game mode. It even made me buy the odysee kayn skin, which I thought was so cool and fun, even though I told myself to not buy any more skins at that time. Odysee was the last great event in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure runes were only purchasable via IP. I guess you could use RP to buy IP boosts, but you could not directly purchase runes with real money.
This. I dont remember ever seeing an option for them to be bought with RP. Heck even the video in the background clearly shows that you could only use ONE form of currency (IP) to buy them.. They were in fact very not p2w but you had to decide between broadening your champ pool & buying new champs OR getting runes..
In addition to the runes there were also masteries that got changed into some runes we have now (Thunderlord's Decree was changed to the Electrocute rune we have now)
I faintly remember when League had a road map where they planned to open more maps. But it only had summoner rift, twisted tree line, Aram, and empty spots for more maps.
I played from season one to the release of Tali, and I miss the old school rune pages. xD It felt like an honor to have bought every rune and rune page with my blue essence xD
Also, I loved the whole gifting skins thing. I remember receiving 2-3 of my favorite skins to date from friends or strangers. Friends due to bets or for skin-timidation, (full five with the same skins = can't lose obviously,) and strangers due to just... being nice I guess? Dunno, but the dragon trainer skins were all gifts and I treasure them much more than any skins I've personally bought or rolled for.
I started playing a year before the big client update, old runes were definitely the most confusing thing ever and I don’t miss them even a little bit 😂
@@harakoni2135 yea, they are going to nerf it to the ground and nobody will build it anyome Riot will realise that this item is unbalancable so its gonna be removed
I really liked the video, even if I knew everything but the Subway-Giftcard thing. And those runes and especially rune pages were really expensive if you bought them with blue essence. Keep up the grade work :)
Funny how you say that they stopped using the winter map because they don't profit from it like winter skins, when Riot doesn't even make new winter skins anymore
I started playing when the new runes system was just released. To this day ( I have quit near the middle/end of s10) I still think there should be more intresting options in terms of smaller runes. It just feels limited as hell. But it is alot better then a near p2w system I must say.
Old runes were the best. Being allowed to customize always have the player more options. And they became 1 point in cost each at the end so- anyways they took runes and masteries and deleted runes and then just called the new masteries.. runes….
I still personally like the older rune system, because even with them- champion matchups were 1:1. If you're against a Nasus and you have no early game, Nasus will win. Period. Some flat stats early won't affect it as much as current runes do today. The older runes with the current Mythic items would be so healthy gameplay wise- as those runes would focus on flat or scaling stats. You could make sure you had what you needed for early, with your mythic purchase completing you- or you could play for late and have your mythic passive and runes scale with you. Now it's just nothing but mini abilities, which feel like bargain bin knives for other champions. Rumble *still* doesn't have a proper damage rune.
The fact that they costed ip and growing several good pages took away from your ability to grow good champion pools, that and it bein by level, was probably the only bad thing about it imo, at least from a newpoaster's perspective. That and it bein wholly separate from masteries, many of which served the same purpose, I do like that they integrated that system. It's still a mess with certain keystones and they didnt even have that much waybackwhen but I think somethin in between a little better could be cool.
I wouldn't be surprised about Riot hating Christmas. The last released Christmas skins were Santa Draven, Ambitious Elf Jinx & Poppy, which came out in 2017, 5 years ago. The last winter skins? Neeko, Soraka, Mundo, Twitch & Yi came out in 2018, 4 years ago. But Riot has enough money in their back pocket to release 2 sets of skins (10 skins) for chinese new year. (Shan Hai scrolls-Lunar beast last year and then Porcelain-Firecracker this year).
Excuse me? Runes were something you could only buy with influence points, the currency you couldn't buy with real money. You could buy IP boosts but you still had to actually play the game to earn the IP. You could NOT buy runes with RP. Runes are NOT pay to win. They're just complicated and let people get a free 12 armor or more at level 1 pretty easily. This sounds bad but it's not complicated to stack armor/magic resist or AP/Mpen or AD/Arpen or HP5 and defense depending on the situation.
I never thought they were complicated. and 2 or 3 rune pages were enough for 99% of champions. for casual players who played for fun the old rune pages were better imo. full armor or full ad malphite were more exciting that way imo. full health regen garen/mundo was also fun.
Thank god there is some thing like KillerSkins and custom mods, where you can still change your map into the Winter's Rift. My whole League of Legends experience in the last 2 years is based on these custom mods only because Riot don't know sh*t about how to design their own game properly. I am playing with the old Winter map, old items from season 10, old masteries and with season 5 HUD and life is great. The game seems fun. I like to play League actually now.
it is a little bit, because you could buy IP boosts with differing multipliers (I think) and you can get more IP with winning, in turn buying you more runes faster
@@MagnaDrake yes and no. You could buy IP boosts, but you got IP for every game. In addition to that you needed to get to level 30, before you were able to even fill the whole rune page. So with IP boosts you were at worst able, to buy more runes, but the highest class runes werent that expensive, so if you had enough IP for a expensive champion, you could buy almost a full rune page. Other times, other systems. You couldn't buy smith with money to put yourself in favor. U simply were a bit faster, which is totally fine, since you could buy everything relevant by simply playing the game. Pay to win would be if you could buy stuff, which you couldn't by playing
Fun fact about the dislike button removal - the video riot made about season 10/11 and saying they are quiet happy with the state of their games had (last I checked 90% dislikes and 10% likes)
Keeping All chat definitely helps with reporting, players can ask during AND after games for a legit report, I always ask or tell why to up their likelihood of getting more votes if they are truly problematic
The problem with Riot is that they're transparent, let alone boast about how transparent they are. Eye other games like Fortnite and Overwatch- 9/10 if some question keeps coming up or is brought to their attention, it's addressed. Meanwhile it literally takes half of each region to convince Riot that Yorick needs a hat, just for them to acknowledge it and give a half ass response as opposed to looking at what *can* be done about it.
Man i still miss 3v3 and dominion , my most remembered moment was a 3v5 dominion , we stalled and got stomped on , until we came back , we only had legit 3 points left and managed to drag them from 250 to 0. We also got honorable enemy in that game. Also remove Chemtech dragon , what a pain in the ass that is.
6:40 honoring opponents was Intentionally removed Reason: High elo players would honor whoever trolled, played like a boosted animal or if he/she was toxic. The mark for bein honored would stay on for the next game and yea... They will all make the marked person lose the game and honor him again eventually pushing him/her out of their elo. No questions asked. You're marked then you're trolled
NOTE: Professor beats using your money or BE for rune pages since it auto selects depending on champion and lanes. just an fyi you need to be level ten or higher to unlock the rune pages.
You are what's wrong with this community. Where's your sense of compassion? Your sense of sportsmanship? It's only a game - why do you people have to make it so toxic?
Christmas was just the church realizing people were just celebrating the winter season in general and decided to capitalize on the occasion, creating Christmas
They could rework the chemtech dragon to revive you but actually you become a kog'maw without bomb and deal some AoE Damage, reduced vision and only a slight movement buff
The only most important thing riot has removed is their brains out of their balance and design teams. It's hard to believe that this huge ass company is there, yet they design their game like a toddler playing pretend and remove anything just because of mood swings. None of these changes mentioned here even benefited the game to begin with, if anything it made it worse.
It's quite literally insane how often they prove how detached they are from the game and community. Their balancing team literally doesn't play the game at all, and it's very evident.
To be fair you don't really need more rune pages anymore since you can change the runes in champ select. You used to need multiple rune pages or you have to guess what your opponents will pick since you basically only have 1 rune page and whatever you chose to put on the rune page stays the same and can't be changed in champ select.

Yeah I have a feeling they'll stick with it for the upcoming season at the least. Maybe some sort of nerfs and changes eventually though, because sometimes it feels so demoralizing for your opponents to get that soul.
I do not understand why people think it's a strong dragon soul, when you die you deal 0 damage and you live like 4 seconds. it's like sion passive; really unconsistant.
And like each team get different perks or whatnot and idk yeah final boss viego wouldve been cool
I liked the visual novel thing they did for the Spirit event, but I agree - the Ruination event should've been a game mode like Blood Moon and Odyssey.
this reminds me of the star guardian map that came out for a short time! i agree, those events were super fun, but now they're all about buying passes and crap for money grabs :/
@@cahilton000 I remember watching a video and someone was saying, "not to add to the fire but the reason why we don't get seasonal or event maps and pve game modes any more (yes, a tiny part is because of the new map/dragons and they'd have to rework the maps) but the team that worked on it is now the TFT team."
So... we can kinda thank tft as to why we don't have new game modes or maps.

Just so sad.
I wish Riot would care more about the casual, "for fun" aram players like me and many others.
the removal of twisted treeline hurt my soul I loved that gamemode and I even got the icon which makes it worse

Thier BEST change was by far removing the old rune system. As a new player it took a tremendous amount of in game currency to buy the runes. It was basically P2W, cuz you could just buy them all for RP
iirc you could only buy them with IP (now blue essence)
@@wasw I checked it and yes, you could not runes for RP. The only way to convert RP to IP was through leveling with an XP boost(This is even true today).
They stated directly converting RP to IP would mean selling power and they didn't want that. Which is fair but having to pay 388K IP for a full set of runes is ridiculous.
@@wasw It still meant you couldnt buy champions which where way more exciting to unlock.
lord having to buy the runes was a nightmare plus needing to get to level 30 in order to even have a full page

Love the content my man, watched you when I was in college years back.

Hey! Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
You forgot the Aatrox.
They removed the Aatrox from the game instead of reworking him :
For real though. Aatrox' rework was literally the farthest thing from a rework. His entire essence was changed. He was an on hit based champ that heavily relied on some attack speed to be good. Now aatrox is a combo champ like riven, it's insane how far off they are from one another, they could be two completely different champs and actually coexist with one another without issues....
That was the one thing his ult could not recover from....
I only started playing in S11 but I've wanted to honor an opponent so many times. They are such fun players some times. I've had ones give me tips when I first time a champ.
Just type! I received some myself and it felt good. Also did it to other lanes. Or on really close games
“Come back in a few years so I can talk about the removal of the chemtech dragon soul.”
- More like a few weeks lol
There is a suggestion of Necrit that I liked regarding the chemtech map. Instead of giving camouflage, you can only see inside the fog but not the outside when you enter the zone. It works like Graves W. It will really be more fun and interesting instead of what we got.
I miss the winter map. It was just cool to see everything change and updated with the season. I feel like riot slowly started caring less and less about cool little things that made more of an impact than they think.
I just hope that in the future, when Riot is done making other games that they planned back in the 10th anniversary announcement that we would see more love back in to this game.
The removal of the old Runes was the only thing I was happy that got removed.
Still waiting for riot to refund the RP that I spent on runes back in 2016
Uhh.. u mean IP aka the free ingame currency bcs u couldn’t buy runes with rp but only the pages ?
I've been wondering a week ago why we even have to purchase rune pages?? We should be able to have unlimited runes pages just like item customization for certain champions. It's a plus to have prepared runes pages for any champion you play instead of wasting time in lobby
well, that damned dragon is now ready to be removed so that video will feature it for sure.
They talked about removing short term updates like the christmas theme and yet they changed the way turrets looked for arcane for month then removed it.

@@FlyingAce369 No other way to say it.
Well, thats a big statement... I had almost every rune and never used real money for them. The real issue with the runes removal was that old players got like 1/4 of the rune's price back, while new players got the whole thing. That felt kinda ugly
Even outside the game we are still haunted by the ah ah ah.
LOL
The Rune update was SO needed i expected it like crazy and suits my playstyle

But it is alot better then a near p2w system I must say.

they make 2 billion dollars a year and youre telling me they can't texture a few rocks white?
8:12 that editing
I love it
Thank god there is some thing like KillerSkins and custom mods, where you can still change your map into the Winter's Rift.
Legit I have a friend who doesnt even buy skins he plays woth a mod that has every skin for free x3
the runes weren't close to pay to win. they were only available by ip, which was, as you said, essentially blue essence.
it is a little bit, because you could buy IP boosts with differing multipliers (I think) and you can get more IP with winning, in turn buying you more runes faster

To be fair you don't really need more rune pages anymore since you can change the runes in champ select. You used to need multiple rune pages or you have to guess what your opponents will pick since you basically only have 1 rune page and whatever you chose to put on the rune page stays the same and can't be changed in champ select.
