I'm so glad that he is finding ways to turn his hardships and ask the things that isolated him for so long into ways to reach out and make the world better.

I can't help but to think about opioid withdrawal listening to these lyrics. The mental pictures of my own memories and hallucinations during withdrawal came to the forefront of my mind. "Smack down". It was the pain that made me who I am today today though. 6 and a half years now. Very relatable

From what I understand, the incident Ren describes, laying on the kitchen floor clawing at the laminate, was when he suffered his first psychotic break as a result of yet another misdiagnosis-driven treatment. He has a massive immune response to the treatment and it sent him into 3 months of psychosis. If I were one of those doctors that fucked him over so royally, I'd be wanting to crawl into a hole in shame. Talk about "do no harm". I know Ren has worked very hard to get past his bitterness over years of bad doctoring, and I know that's his true way forward. But man, I'm outraged for him all over again when I think about it. Guess I need to get past it, too. But those doctors shouldn't. They should question themselves deeply and honestly.

Pain is absolutely a teacher, a punisher, and a life partner for some. 15 years ago I injured my back and to this day I have lived with life-altering daily pain as I began a journey through a nightmarish hell of agony and torture. For years I gave up, and I was just waiting to die until new friends saved me. Now I'm in the best physical shape I've ever been in due to daily walking. Yeah, I'm gonna be in pain every day until the day I die, but I made peace with that a long time ago. Life is good now, and I look forward to the future. Pain is hell, but pain can be overcome.

This song is a blessing and curse. I love it but it reminds me of the most painful year of my life. I know what it is to have your pain speak to you, it was almost like poetry... poetry about torture. My sense of humor was the only thing that got me through it, unfortunately it's also what kept doctors from taking my pain seriously. Cluster headaches are the worst.
